aparavidyāyāḥ sarvaṁ kāryamuktam । sa ca saṁsāro yatsāro yasmānmūlādakṣarātsambhavati yasmiṁśca pralīyate, tadakṣaraṁ puruṣākhyaṁ satyam । yasminvijñāte sarvamidaṁ vijñātaṁ bhavati, tatparasyā brahmavidyāyā viṣayaḥ । sa vaktavya ityuttaro grantha ārabhyate —
tadetatsatyaṁ yathā sudīptātpāvakādvisphuliṅgāḥ sahasraśaḥ prabhavante sarūpāḥ ।
tathākṣarādvividhāḥ somya bhāvāḥ prajāyante tatra caivāpiyanti ॥ 1 ॥
yadaparavidyāviṣayaṁ karmaphalalakṣaṇam , satyaṁ tadāpekṣikam । idaṁ tu paravidyāviṣayam , paramārthasallakṣaṇatvāt । tadetat satyaṁ yathābhūtaṁ vidyāviṣayam ; avidyāviṣayatvācca anṛtamitarat । atyantaparokṣatvātkathaṁ nāma pratyakṣavatsatyamakṣaraṁ pratipadyeranniti dṛṣṭāntamāha — yathā sudīptāt suṣṭhu dīptādiddhāt pāvakāt agneḥ visphuliṅgāḥ agnyavayavāḥ sahasraśaḥ anekaśaḥ prabhavante nirgacchanti sarūpāḥ agnisalakṣaṇā eva, tathā uktalakṣaṇāt akṣarāt vividhāḥ nānādehopādhibhedamanuvidhīyamānatvādvividhāḥ he somya, bhāvāḥ jīvāḥ ākāśādivadghaṭādiparicchinnāḥ suṣirabhedā ghaṭādyupādhiprabhedamanu bhavanti ; evaṁ nānānāmarūpakṛtadehopādhiprabhavamanu prajāyante, tatra caiva tasminneva cākṣare apiyanti dehopādhivilayamanu vilīyante ghaṭādivilayamanviva suṣirabhedāḥ । yathā''kāśasya suṣirabhedotpattipralayanimittatvaṁ ghaṭādyupādhikṛtameva, tadvadakṣarasyāpi nāmarūpakṛtadehopādhinimittameva jīvotpattipralayanimittatvam ॥
divyo hyamūrtaḥ puruṣaḥ sabāhyābhyantaro hyajaḥ ।
aprāṇo hyamanāḥ śubhro hyakṣarātparataḥ paraḥ ॥ 2 ॥
nāmarūpabījabhūtādavyākṛtākhyātsvavikārāpekṣayā parādakṣarātparaṁ yatsarvopādhibhedavarjitamakṣarasyaiva svarūpamākāśasyeva sarvamūrtivarjitaṁ neti netītyādiviśeṣaṇaṁ vivakṣannāha — divyaḥ dyotanavān , svayañjyotiṣṭvāt । divi vā svātmani bhavaḥ alaukiko vā । hi yasmāt amūrtaḥ sarvamūrtivarjitaḥ, puruṣaḥ pūrṇaḥ puriśayo vā, sabāhyābhyantaraḥ saha bāhyābhyantareṇa vartata iti । ajaḥ na jāyate kutaścit , svato'jasya janmanimittasya cābhāvāt ; yathā jalabudbudādervāyvādiḥ, yathā nabhaḥsuṣirabhedānāṁ ghaṭādiḥ । sarvabhāvavikārāṇāṁ janimūlatvāt tatpratiṣedhena sarve pratiṣiddhā bhavanti । sabāhyābhyantaro hyajaḥ ato'jaro'mṛto'kṣaro dhruvo'bhaya ityarthaḥ । yadyapi dehādyupādhibhedadṛṣṭibhedeṣu saprāṇaḥ samanāḥ sendriyaḥ saviṣaya iva pratyavabhāsate talamalādimadivākāśam , tathāpi tu svataḥ paramārthasvarūpadṛṣṭīnām aprāṇaḥ avidyamānaḥ kriyāśaktibhedavān calanātmako vāyuryasminnasau aprāṇaḥ । tathā amanāḥ anekajñānaśaktibhedavatsaṅkalpādyātmakaṁ mano'pyavidyamānaṁ yasminso'yamamanāḥ । aprāṇo hyamanāśceti prāṇādivāyubhedāḥ karmendriyāṇi tadviṣayāśca tathā buddhimanasī buddhīndriyāṇi tadviṣayāśca pratiṣiddhā veditavyāḥ ; yathā śrutyantare — dhyāyatīva lelāyatīveti । yasmāccaivaṁ pratiṣiddhopādhidvayastasmāt śubhraḥ śuddhaḥ । ato'kṣarānnāmarūpabījopādhilakṣitasvarūpāt , sarvakāryakaraṇabījatvenopalakṣyamāṇatvātparaṁ tattvaṁ tadupādhilakṣaṇamavyākṛtākhyamakṣaraṁ sarvavikārebhyatasmātparato'kṣarātparaḥ nirupādhikaḥ puruṣa ityarthaḥ । yasmiṁstadākāśākhyamakṣaraṁ saṁvyavahāraviṣayamotaṁ ca protaṁ ca । kathaṁ punaraprāṇādimattvaṁ tasyetyucyate । yadi hi prāṇādayaḥ prāgutpatteḥ puruṣa iva svenātmanā santi, tadā puruṣasya prāṇadinā vidyamānena prāṇādimattvaṁ syāt ; na tu te prāṇādayaḥ prāgutpatteḥ santi । ataḥ prāṇādimānparaḥ puruṣaḥ, yathā'nutpanne putre aputro devadattaḥ ॥
etasmājjāyate prāṇo manaḥ sarvendriyāṇi ca ।
khaṁ vāyurjyotirāpaḥ pṛthivī viśvasya dhāriṇī ॥ 3 ॥
kathaṁ te na santi prāṇādaya iti, ucyate — yasmāt etasmādeva puruṣānnāmarūpabījopādhilakṣitāt jāyate utpadyate'vidyāviṣayo vikārabhūto nāmadheyo'nṛtātmakaḥ prāṇaḥ,
‘vācārambhaṇaṁ vikāro nāmadheyam’ (chā. u. 6 । 1 । 4) ‘anṛtam’ iti śrutyantarāt । na hi tenāvidyāviṣayeṇānṛtena prāṇena saprāṇatvaṁ parasya syādaputrasya svapnadṛṣṭeneva putreṇa saputratvam । evaṁ manaḥ sarvāṇi cendriyāṇi viṣayāścaitasmādeva jāyante । tasmātsiddhamasya nirupacaritamaprāṇādimattvamityarthaḥ । yathā ca prāgutpatteḥ paramārthato'santastathā pralīnāśceti draṣṭavyāḥ । yathā karaṇāni manaścendriyāṇi ca, tathā śarīraviṣayakāraṇāni bhūtāni kham ākāśaṁ, vāyuḥ bāhya āvahādibhedaḥ, jyotiḥ agniḥ, āpaḥ udakaṁ, pṛthivī dharitrī viśvasya sarvasya dhāriṇī ; etāni ca śabdasparśarūparasagandhottarottaraguṇāni pūrvapūrvaguṇasahitānyetasmādeva jāyante ॥
agnirmūrdhā cakṣuṣī candrasūryau diśaḥ śrotre vāgvivṛtāśca vedāḥ ।
vāyuḥ prāṇo hṛdayaṁ viśvamasya padbhyāṁ pṛthivī hyeṣa sarvabhūtāntarātmā ॥ 4 ॥
saṅkṣepataḥ paravidyāviṣayamakṣaraṁ nirviśeṣaṁ puruṣaṁ satyam
‘divyo hyamūrtaḥ’ (mu. u. 2 । 1 । 2) ityādinā mantreṇoktvā, punastadeva saviśeṣaṁ vistareṇa vaktavyamiti pravavṛte ; saṅkṣepavistarokto hi padārthaḥ sukhādhigamyo bhavati sūtrabhāṣyoktivaditi । yo hi prathamajātprāṇāddhiraṇyagarbhājjāyate'ṇḍasyāntarvirāṭ , sa tattvāntaritattvena lakṣyamāṇo'pyetasmādeva puruṣājjāyata etanmayaścetyetadarthamāha, taṁ ca viśinaṣṭi — agniḥ dyulokaḥ,
‘asau vāva loko gautamāgniḥ’ (chā. u. 5 । 4 । 1) iti śruteḥ । mūrdhā yasyottamāṅgaṁ śiraḥ, cakṣuṣī candraśca sūryaśceti candrasūryau ; yasyeti sarvatrānuṣaṅgaḥ kartavyaḥ asyetyasya padasya vakṣyamāṇasya yasyeti vipariṇāmaṁ kṛtvā । diśaḥ śrotre yasya । vāk vivṛtāśca udghāṭitāḥ prasiddhā vedāḥ yasya । vāyuḥ prāṇo yasya । hṛdayam antaḥkaraṇaṁ viśvaṁ samastaṁ jagat asya yasyetyetat । sarvaṁ hyantaḥkaraṇavikārameva jagat , manasyeva suṣupte pralayadarśanāt ; jāgarite'pi tata evāgnivisphuliṅgavadvipratiṣṭhānāt । yasya ca padbhyāṁ jātā pṛthivī, eṣa devo viṣṇuranantaḥ prathamaśarīrī trailokyadehopādhiḥ sarveṣāṁ bhūtānāmantarātmā । sa hi sarvabhūteṣu draṣṭā śrotā mantā vijñātā sarvakaraṇātmā ॥
pañcāgnidvāreṇa ca yāḥ saṁsaranti prajāḥ, tā api tasmādeva puruṣātprajāyanta ityucyate —
tasmādagniḥ samidho yasya sūryaḥ somātparjanya oṣadhayaḥ pṛthivyām ।
pumānretaḥ siñcati yoṣitāyāṁ bahvīḥ prajāḥ puruṣātsamprasūtāḥ ॥ 5 ॥
tasmāt parasmātpuruṣāt prajāvasthānaviśeṣarūpaḥ agniḥ । sa viśeṣyate — samidho yasya sūryaḥ, samidha iva samidhaḥ ; sūryeṇa hi dyulokaḥ samidhyate । tato hi dyulokāgnerniṣpannāt somāt parjanyaḥ dvitīyo'gniḥ sambhavati । tasmācca parjanyāt oṣadhayaḥ pṛthivyāṁ sambhavanti । oṣadhibhyaḥ puruṣāgnau hutābhya upādānabhūtābhyaḥ pumānagniḥ retaḥ siñcati yoṣitāyāṁ yoṣiti yoṣāgnau striyāmiti । evaṁ krameṇa bahvīḥ bahvyaḥ prajāḥ brāhmaṇādyāḥ puruṣāt parasmāt samprasūtāḥ samutpannāḥ ॥
tasmādṛcaḥ sāma yajūṁṣi dīkṣā yajñāśca sarve kratavo dakṣiṇāśca ।
saṁvatsaraśca yajamānaśca lokāḥ somo yatra pavate yatra sūryaḥ ॥ 6 ॥
kiñca, karmasādhanāni phalāni ca tasmādevetyāha — katham ? tasmāt puruṣāt ṛcaḥ niyatākṣarapādāvasānāḥ gāyatryādicchandoviśiṣṭā mantrāḥ ; sāma pāñcabhaktikaṁ sāptabhaktikaṁ ca stobhādigītiviśiṣṭam ; yajūṁṣi aniyatākṣarapādāvasānāni vākyarūpāṇi ; evaṁ trividhā mantrāḥ । dīkṣāḥ mauñjyādilakṣaṇāḥ kartṛniyamaviśeṣāḥ । yajñāśca sarve agnihotrādayaḥ । kratavaḥ sayūpāḥ । dakṣiṇāśca ekagavādyā aparimitasarvasvāntāḥ । saṁvatsaraśca kālaḥ karmāṅgabhūtaḥ । yajamānaśca kartā । lokāḥ tasya karmaphalabhūtāḥ ; te viśeṣyante — somaḥ yatra yeṣu lokeṣu pavate punāti lokān yatra ca yeṣu sūryastapati । te ca dakṣiṇāyanottarāyaṇamārgadvayagamyā vidvadavidvatkartṛphalabhūtāḥ ॥
tasmācca devā bahudhā samprasūtāḥ sādhyā manuṣyāḥ paśavo vayāṁsi ।
prāṇāpānau vrīhiyavau tapaśca śraddhā satyaṁ brahmacaryaṁ vidhiśca ॥ 7 ॥
tasmācca puruṣātkarmāṅgabhūtā devāḥ bahudhā vasvādigaṇabhedena samprasūtāḥ samyak prasūtāḥ — sādhyāḥ devaviśeṣāḥ, manuṣyāḥ karmādhikṛtāḥ, paśavaḥ grāmyāraṇyāḥ, vayāṁsi pakṣiṇaḥ ; jīvanaṁ ca manuṣyādīnāṁ prāṇāpānau, vrīhiyavau havirarthau ; tapaśca karmāṅgaṁ puruṣasaṁskāralakṣaṇaṁ svatantraṁ ca phalasādhanam ; śraddhā yatpūrvakaḥ sarvapuruṣārthasādhanaprayogaścittaprasāda āstikyabuddhiḥ ; tathā satyam anṛtavarjanaṁ yathābhūtārthavacanaṁ cāpīḍākaram ; brahmacaryaṁ maithunāsamācāraḥ ; vidhiśca itikartavyatā ॥
sapta prāṇāḥ prabhavanti tasmātsaptārciṣaḥ samidhaḥ sapta homāḥ ।
sapteme lokā yeṣu caranti prāṇā guhāśayā nihitāḥ sapta sapta ॥ 8 ॥
kiñca, sapta śīrṣaṇyāḥ prāṇāḥ tasmādeva puruṣāt prabhavanti । teṣāṁ sapta arciṣaḥ dīptayaḥ svasvaviṣayāvadyotanāni । tathā sapta samidhaḥ saptaviṣayāḥ ; viṣayairhi samidhyante prāṇāḥ । sapta homā ; tadviṣayavijñānāni, ‘yadasya vijñānaṁ tajjuhoti’ (tai. nā. 80) iti śrutyantarāt । kiñca, sapta ime lokāḥ indriyasthānāni, yeṣu caranti sañcaranti prāṇāḥ iti viśeṣaṇāt । prāṇā yeṣu carantīti prāṇānāṁ viśeṣaṇamidaṁ prāṇāpānādinivṛttyartham । guhāyāṁ śarīre hṛdaye vā svāpakāle śerata iti guhāśayāḥ । nihitāḥ sthāpitā dhātrā sapta sapta pratiprāṇibhedam । yāni ca ātmayājināṁ viduṣāṁ karmāṇi karmaphalāni cāviduṣāṁ ca karmāṇi tatsādhanāni karmaphalāni ca sarvaṁ caitatparasmādeva puruṣātsarvajñātprasūtamiti prakaraṇārthaḥ ॥
ataḥ samudrā girayaśca sarve'smātsyandante sindhavaḥ sarvarūpāḥ ।
ataśca sarvā oṣadhayo rasaśca yenaiṣa bhūtaistiṣṭhate hyantarātmā ॥ 9 ॥
ataḥ puruṣāt samudrāḥ sarve kṣārādyāḥ । girayaśca himavadādayaḥ asmādeva puruṣāt sarve । syandante sravanti gaṅgādyāḥ sindhavaḥ nadyaḥ sarvarūpāḥ bahurūpāḥ । asmādeva puruṣāt sarvāḥ oṣadhayaḥ vrīhiyavādyāḥ । rasaśca madhurādiḥ ṣaḍvidhaḥ, yena rasena bhūtaiḥ pañcabhiḥ sthūlaiḥ pariveṣṭitaḥ tiṣṭhate tiṣṭhati hi antarātmā liṅgaṁ sūkṣmaṁ śarīram । taddhyantarāle śarīrasyātmanaścātmavadvartata ityantarātmā ॥
puruṣa evedaṁ viśvaṁ karma tapo brahma parāmṛtam ।
etadyo veda nihitaṁ guhāyāṁ so'vidyāgranthiṁ vikiratīha somya ॥ 10 ॥
evaṁ puruṣātsarvamidaṁ samprasūtam । ato vācārambhaṇaṁ vikāro nāmadheyamanṛtaṁ puruṣa ityeva satyam ; ataḥ puruṣa eva idaṁ viśvaṁ sarvam । na viśvaṁ nāma puruṣādanyatkiñcidasti । ato yaduktaṁ tadevedamabhihitam
‘kasminnu bhagavo vijñāte sarvamidaṁ vijñātaṁ bhavati’ (mu. u. 1 । 1 । 3) iti ; etasminhi parasminnātmani sarvakāraṇe puruṣe vijñāte, puruṣa evedaṁ viśvaṁ nānyadastīti vijñātaṁ bhavatīti । kiṁ punaridaṁ viśvamityucyate — karma agnihotrādilakṣaṇam ; tapaḥ jñānaṁ tatkṛtaṁ phalamanyadeva tāvaddhīdaṁ sarvam ; tacca etadbrahmaṇaḥ kāryam ; tasmātsarvaṁ brahma parāmṛtaṁ paramamṛtamahameveti yo veda nihitaṁ sthitaṁ guhāyāṁ hṛdi sarvaprāṇinām , saḥ evaṁ vijñānāt avidyāgranthiṁ granthimiva dṛḍhībhūtāmavidyāvāsanāṁ vikirati vikṣipati vināśayati iha jīvanneva, na mṛtaḥ san he somya priyadarśana ॥
iti dvitīyamuṇḍake prathamakhaṇḍaśabhāṣyam ॥
āviḥ saṁnihitaṁ guhācaraṁ nāma mahatpadamatraitatsamarpitam ।
ejatprāṇannimiṣacca yadetajjānatha sadasadvareṇyaṁ paraṁ vijñānādyadvariṣṭhaṁ prajānām ॥ 1 ॥
arūpaṁ sadakṣaraṁ kena prakāreṇa vijñeyamityucyate — āviḥ prakāśaṁ, saṁnihitam , vāgādyupādhibhiḥ — jvalati bhrājatīti śrutyantarāt — śabdādīnupalabhamānavadavabhāsate ; darśanaśravaṇamananavijñānādyupādhidharmairāvirbhūtaṁ sallakṣyate hṛdi sarvaprāṇinām । yadetadāvirbhūtaṁ brahma saṁnihitaṁ samyak sthitaṁ hṛdi, tat guhācaraṁ nāma guhāyāṁ caratīti darśanaśravaṇādiprakārairguhācaramiti prakhyātam । mahat sarvamahattvāt , padaṁ padyate sarveṇeti, sarvapadārthāspadatvāt । kathaṁ tanmahatpadamiti, ucyate ? yataḥ atra asminbrahmaṇi etatsarvaṁ samarpitaṁ sampraveśitaṁ rathanābhāvivārāḥ — ejat calatpakṣyādi, prāṇat prāṇitīti prāṇāpānādimanmanuṣyapaśvādi, nimiṣacca yannimeṣādikriyāvat , yaccānimiṣat ; ca - śabdāt samastametadatraiva brahmaṇi samarpitam । etat yadāspadaṁ sarvaṁ jānatha he śiṣyāḥ, avagacchata tadātmabhūtaṁ bhavatām ; sadasat sadasatsvarūpaṁ sadasatormūrtāmūrtayoḥ sthūlasūkṣmayoḥ, tadvyatirekeṇābhāvāt । vareṇyaṁ varaṇīyam , tadeva hi sarvasya nityatvātprārthanīyam ; paraṁ vyatiriktaṁ vijñānātprajānāmiti vyavahitena sambandhaḥ ; yallaukikavijñānāgocaramityarthaḥ । yat variṣṭhaṁ varatamaṁ sarvapadārtheṣu vareṣu ; taddhyekaṁ brahma atiśayena varaṁ sarvadoṣarahitatvāt ॥
yadarcimadyadaṇubhyo'ṇu ca yasmiṁllokā nihitā lokinaśca ।
tadetadakṣaraṁ brahma sa prāṇastadu vāṅmanaḥ ।
tadetatsatyaṁ tadamṛtaṁ tadveddhavyaṁ somya viddhi ॥ 2 ॥
kiñca, yat arcimat dīptimat ; taddīptyā hyādityādi dīpyata iti dīptimadbrahma । kiñca, yat aṇubhyaḥ śyāmākādibhyo'pi aṇu ca sūkṣmam । ca - śabdātsthūlebhyo'pyatiśayena sthūlaṁ pṛthivyādibhyaḥ । yasmin lokāḥ bhūrādayaḥ nihitāḥ sthitāḥ, ye ca lokinaḥ lokanivāsinaḥ manuṣyādayaḥ ; caitanyāśrayā hi sarve prasiddhāḥ ; tadetat sarvāśrayaṁ akṣaram brahma sa prāṇaḥ tadu vāṅmanaḥ vākca manaśca sarvāṇi ca karaṇāni tadu antaścaitanyam ; caitanyāśrayo hi prāṇendriyādisarvasaṅghātaḥ,
‘prāṇasya prāṇam’ (bṛ. u. 4 । 4 । 10) iti śrutyantarāt । yatprāṇādīnāmantaścaitanyamakṣaraṁ tadetat satyam avitatham , ataḥ amṛtam avināśi tat veddhavyaṁ manasā tāḍayitavyam । tasminmanasaḥ samādhānaṁ kartavyamityarthaḥ । yasmādevaṁ he somya, viddhi akṣare cetaḥ samādhatsva ॥
dhanurgṛhītvaupaniṣadaṁ mahāstraṁ śaraṁ hyupāsāniśitaṁ sandadhīta ।
āyamya tadbhāvagatena cetasā lakṣyaṁ tadevākṣaraṁ somya viddhi ॥ 3 ॥
kathaṁ veddhavyamiti, ucyate — dhanuḥ iṣvāsanaṁ gṛhītvā ādāya aupaniṣadam upaniṣatsu bhavaṁ prasiddhaṁ mahāstraṁ mahacca tadastraṁ ca mahāstraṁ dhanuḥ, tasmin śaram ; kiṁviśiṣṭamityāha — upāsāniśitaṁ santatābhidhyānena tanūkṛtam , saṁskṛtamityetat ; sandadhīta sandhānaṁ kuryāt । sandhāya ca āyamya ākṛṣya sendriyamantaḥkaraṇaṁ svaviṣayādvinivartya lakṣya evāvarjitaṁ kṛtvetyarthaḥ । na hi hasteneva dhanuṣa āyamanamiha sambhavati । tadbhāvagatena tasminbrahmaṇyakṣare lakṣye bhāvanā bhāvaḥ tadgatena cetasā, lakṣyaṁ tadeva yathoktalakṣaṇam akṣaraṁ somya, viddhi ॥
praṇavo dhanuḥ śaro hyātmā brahma tallakṣyamucyate ।
apramattena veddhavyaṁ śaravattanmayo bhavet ॥ 4 ॥
yaduktaṁ dhanurādi, taducyate — praṇavaḥ oṅkāraḥ dhanuḥ । yathā iṣvāsanaṁ lakṣye śarasya praveśakāraṇam , tathā ātmaśarasyākṣare lakṣye praveśakāraṇamoṅkāraḥ । praṇavena hyabhyasyamānena saṁskriyamāṇastadālambano'pratibandhenākṣare'vatiṣṭhate । yathā dhanuṣā asta iṣurlakṣye । ataḥ praṇavo dhanuriva dhanuḥ । śaro hyātmā upādhilakṣaṇaḥ para eva jale sūryādivadiha praviṣṭo dehe sarvabauddhapratyayasākṣitayā ; sa śara iva svātmanyevārpito'kṣare brahmaṇi ; ataḥ brahma tat lakṣyamucyate lakṣya iva manaḥ samādhitsubhirātmabhāvena lakṣyamāṇatvāt । tatraivaṁ sati apramattena bāhyaviṣayopalabdhitṛṣṇāpramādavarjitena sarvato viraktena jitendriyeṇaikāgracittena veddhavyaṁ brahma lakṣyam । tatastadvedhanādūrdhvaṁ śaravat tanmayaḥ bhavet ; yathā śarasya lakṣyaikātmatvaṁ phalaṁ bhavati, tathā dehādyātmatāpratyayatiraskaraṇenākṣaraikātmatvaṁ phalamāpādayedityarthaḥ ॥
yasmindyauḥ pṛthivī cāntarikṣamotaṁ manaḥ saha prāṇaiśca sarvaiḥ ।
tamevaikaṁ jānatha ātmānamanyā vāco vimuñcathāmṛtasyaiṣa setuḥ ॥ 5 ॥
akṣarasyaiva durlakṣyatvātpunaḥ punarvacanaṁ sulakṣaṇārtham । yasmin akṣare puruṣe dyauḥ pṛthivī ca antarikṣaṁ ca otaṁ samarpitaṁ manaśca saha prāṇaiḥ karaṇaiḥ anyaiḥ sarvaiḥ, tameva sarvāśrayamekamadvitīyaṁ jānatha jānīta he śiṣyāḥ । ātmānaṁ pratyaksvarūpaṁ yuṣmākaṁ sarvaprāṇināṁ ca । jñātvā ca anyāḥ vācaḥ aparavidyārūpāḥ vimuñcatha vimuñcata parityajata । tatprakāśyaṁ ca sarvaṁ karma sasādhanam । yataḥ amṛtasya eṣa setuḥ, etadātmajñānamamṛtasyāmṛtatvasya mokṣasya prāptaye seturiva setuḥ, saṁsāramahodadheruttaraṇahetutvāt ; tathā ca śrutyantaram —
‘tameva viditvāti mṛtyumeti nānyaḥ panthā vidyate'yanāya’ (śve. u. 3 । 8) iti ॥
arā iva rathanābhau saṁhatā yatra nāḍyaḥ sa eṣo'ntaścarate bahudhā jāyamānaḥ ।
omityevaṁ dhyāyatha ātmānaṁ svasti vaḥ pārāya tamasaḥ parastāt ॥ 6 ॥
kiñca, arā iva yathā rathanābhau samarpitā arāḥ, evaṁ saṁhatāḥ sampraviṣṭāḥ yatra yasminhṛdaye sarvato dehavyāpinyaḥ nāḍyaḥ, tasminhṛdaye buddhipratyayasākṣibhūtaḥ sa eṣaḥ prakṛta ātmā antaḥ madhye carate carati vartate । paśyan śṛṇvanmanvāno vijānan bahudhā anekadhā krodhaharṣādipratyayairjāyamāna iva jāyamānaḥ antaḥkaraṇopādhyanuvidhāyitvāt ; vadanti hi laukikā hṛṣṭo jātaḥ kruddho jāta iti । tamātmānam omityevam oṅkārālambanāḥ santaḥ yathoktakalpanayā dhyāyatha cintayata । uktaṁ ca vaktavyaṁ śiṣyebhya ācāryeṇa jānatā । śiṣyāśca brahmavidyāvividiṣutvānnivṛttakarmāṇo mokṣapathe pravṛttāḥ । teṣāṁ nirvighnatayā brahmaprāptimāśāstyācāryaḥ — svasti nirvighnamastu vaḥ yuṣmākaṁ pārāya parakūlāya ; kasya ? avidyātamasaḥ parastāt ; avidyārahitabrahmātmasvarūpagamanāyetyarthaḥ ॥
yaḥ sarvajñaḥ sarvavidyasyaiṣa mahimā bhuvi ।
divye brahmapure hyeṣa vyomanyātmā pratiṣṭhitaḥ ॥ 7 ॥
yo'sau tamasaḥ parastātsaṁsāramahodadhiṁ tīrtvā gantavyaḥ paravidyāviṣayaḥ, sa kasminvartata ityāha — yaḥ sarvajñaḥ sarvavit vyākhyātaḥ । taṁ punarviśinaṣṭi — yasyaiṣa prasiddho mahimā vibhūtiḥ । ko'sau mahimā ? yasyeme dyāvāpṛthivyau śāsane vidhṛte tiṣṭhataḥ ; sūryācandramasau yasya śāsane'lātacakravadajasraṁ bhramataḥ ; yasya śāsane saritaḥ sāgarāśca svagocaraṁ nātikrāmanti ; tathā sthāvaraṁ jaṅgamaṁ ca yasya śāsane niyatam ; tathā ṛtavo'yane abdāśca yasya śāsanaṁ nātikrāmanti ; tathā kartāraḥ karmāṇi phalaṁ ca yacchāsanātsvaṁ svaṁ kālaṁ nātivartante, sa eṣa mahimā ; bhuvi loke yasya sa eṣa sarvajña evaṁmahimā devaḥ । divye dyotanavati sarvabauddhapratyayakṛtadyotane brahmapure । brahmaṇo hyatra caitanyasvarūpeṇa nityābhivyaktatvāt ; brahmaṇaḥ puraṁ hṛdayapuṇḍarīkaṁ tasminyadvyoma, tasminvyomani ākāśe hṛtpuṇḍarīkamadhyasthe pratiṣṭhita ivopalabhyate ; na hyākāśavatsarvagatasya gatirāgatiḥ pratiṣṭhā vānyathā sambhavati ॥
manomayaḥ prāṇaśarīranetā pratiṣṭhito'nne hṛdayaṁ saṁnidhāya ।
tadvijñānena paripaśyanti dhīrā ānandarūpamamṛtaṁ yadvibhāti ॥ 8 ॥
sa hyātmā tatrastho manovṛttibhireva vibhāvyata iti manomayaḥ, manaupādhitvāt । prāṇaśarīranetā prāṇaśca taccharīraṁ ca tatprāṇaśarīraṁ tasyāyaṁ netā । asmātsthūlāccharīrāccharīrāntaraṁ sūkṣmaṁ prati pratiṣṭhitaḥ avasthitaḥ anne bhujyamānānnavipariṇāme pratidinamupacīyamāne apacīyamāne ca piṇḍarūpe'nne hṛdayaṁ buddhiṁ puṇḍarīkacchidre saṁnidhāya samavasthāpya ; hṛdayāvasthānameva hyātmanaḥ sthitiḥ, na hyātmanaḥ sthitiranne ; tat ātmatattvaṁ vijñānena viśiṣṭena śāstrācāryopadeśajanitena jñānena śamadamadhyānasarvatyāgavairāgyodbhūtena paripaśyanti sarvataḥ pūrṇaṁ paśyanti upalabhante dhīrāḥ vivekinaḥ । ānandarūpaṁ sarvānarthaduḥkhāyāsaprahīṇaṁ sukharūpam amṛtaṁ yadvibhāti viśeṣeṇa svātmanyeva bhāti sarvadā ॥
bhidyate hṛdayagranthiśchidyante sarvasaṁśayāḥ ।
kṣīyante cāsya karmāṇi tasmindṛṣṭe parāvare ॥ 9 ॥
asya paramātmajñānasya phalamidamabhidhīyate — hṛdayagranthiḥ avidyāvāsanāmayo buddhyāśrayaḥ kāmaḥ,
‘kāmā ye'sya hṛdi śritāḥ’ (bṛ. u. 4 । 4 । 7),
(kā. u. 2 । 3 । 14) iti śrutyantarāt । hṛdayāśrayo'sau, nātmāśrayaḥ । bhidyate bhedaṁ vināśamupayāti । chidyante sarve jñeyaviṣayāḥ saṁśayāḥ laukikānām ā maraṇāt gaṅgāsrotovatpravṛttā vicchedamāyānti । asya vicchinnasaṁśayasya nivṛttāvidyasya yāni vijñānotpatteḥ prākkṛtāni janmāntare cāpravṛttaphalāni jñānotpattisahabhāvīni ca kṣīyante karmāṇi, na tvetajjanmārambhakāṇi, pravṛttaphalatvāt । tasmin sarvajñe'saṁsāriṇi parāvare paraṁ ca kāraṇātmanā avaraṁ ca kāryātmanā tasminparāvare sākṣādahamasmīti dṛṣṭe, saṁsārakāraṇocchedānmucyata ityarthaḥ ॥
hiraṇmaye pare kośe virajaṁ brahma niṣkalam ।
tacchubhraṁ jyotiṣāṁ jyotistadyadātmavido viduḥ ॥ 10 ॥
uktasyaivārthasya saṅkṣepābhidhāyakā uttare mantrāstrayo'pi — hiraṇmaye jyotirmaye buddhivijñānaprakāśe pare kośe kośa ivāseḥ । ātmasvarūpopalabdhisthānatvātparaṁ tatsarvābhyantaratvāt , tasmin virajam avidyādyaśeṣadoṣarajomalavarjitaṁ brahma sarvamahattvātsarvātmatvācca niṣkalaṁ nirgatāḥ kalā yasmāttanniṣkalaṁ niravayavamityarthaḥ । yasmādvirajaṁ niṣkalaṁ ca ataḥ tacchubhraṁ śuddhaṁ jyotiṣāṁ sarvaprakāśātmanāmagnyādīnāmapi tajjyotiḥ avabhāsakam । agnyādīnāmapi jyotiṣṭvamantargatabrahmātmacaitanyajyotirnimittamityarthaḥ । taddhi paraṁ jyotiryadanyānavabhāsyamātmajyotiḥ, tat yat ātmavidaḥ ātmānaṁ svaṁ śabdādiviṣayabuddhipratyayasākṣiṇaṁ ye vivekino viduḥ vijānanti, te ātmavidaḥ tadviduḥ, ātmapratyayānusāriṇaḥ । yasmātparaṁ jyotistasmātta eva tadviduḥ, netare bāhyārthapratyayānusāriṇaḥ ॥
na tatra sūryo bhāti na candratārakaṁ nemā vidyuto bhānti kuto'yamagniḥ ।
tameva bhāntamanubhāti sarvaṁ tasya bhāsā sarvamidaṁ vibhāti ॥ 11 ॥
kathaṁ tat ‘jyotiṣāṁ jyotiḥ’ iti, ucyate — na tatra tasminsvātmabhūte brahmaṇi sarvāvabhāsako'pi sūryo bhāti, tadbrahma na prakāśayatītyarthaḥ । sa hi tasyaiva bhāsā sarvamanyadanātmajātaṁ prakāśayati ; na tu tasya svataḥ prakāśanasāmarthyam । tathā na candratārakam , na imāḥ vidyutaḥ bhānti, kuto'yamagniḥ asmadgocaraḥ । kiṁ bahunā । yadidaṁ jagadbhāti, tattameva parameśvaraṁ svato bhārūpatvāt bhāntaṁ dīpyamānam anubhāti anudīpyate । yathā jalamulmukādi vā agnisaṁyogādagniṁ dahantamanudahati, na svataḥ ; tadvattasyaiva bhāsā dīptyā sarvamidaṁ sūryādi jagadvibhāti । yata evaṁ tadeva brahma bhāti ca vibhāti ca kāryagatena vividhena bhāsā ; atastasya brahmaṇo bhārūpatvaṁ svato'vagamyate । na hi svato'vidyamānaṁ bhāsanamanyasya kartuṁ śaknoti । ghaṭādīnāmanyāvabhāsakatvādarśanāt bhārūpāṇāṁ cādityādīnāṁ taddarśanāt ॥
brahmaivedamamṛtaṁ purastādbrahma paścādbrahma dakṣiṇataścottareṇa ।
adhaścordhvaṁ ca prasṛtaṁ brahmaivedaṁ viśvamidaṁ variṣṭham ॥ 12 ॥
yattajjyotiṣāṁ jyotirbrahma, tadeva satyam ; sarvaṁ tadvikāraḥ vācārambhaṇaṁ vikāro nāmadheyamātramanṛtamitaradityetamarthaṁ vistareṇa hetutaḥ pratipāditaṁ nigamanasthānīyena mantreṇa punarupasaṁharati — brahmaiva uktalakṣaṇam , idaṁ yat purastāt agre'brahmevāvidyādṛṣṭīnāṁ pratyavabhāsamānaṁ tathā paścādbrahma tathā dakṣiṇataśca tathā uttareṇa tathaivādhastāt ūrdhvaṁ ca sarvato'nyadiva kāryākāreṇa prasṛtaṁ pragataṁ nāmarūpavadavabhāsamānam । kiṁ bahunā, brahmaivedaṁ viśvaṁ samastamidaṁ jagat variṣṭhaṁ varatamam । abrahmapratyayaḥ sarvo'vidyāmātro rajjvāmiva sarpapratyayaḥ । brahmaivaikaṁ paramārthasatyamiti vedānuśāsanam ॥
iti śrīmatparamahaṁsaparivrājakācāryasya śrīgovindabhagavatpūjyapādaśiṣyasya śrīmacchaṅkarabhagavataḥ kṛtau muṇḍakopaniṣadbhāṣye dvitīyaṁ muṇḍakaṁ samāptam ॥
