prajñānāṁśupratānaiḥ sthiracaranikaravyāpibhirvyāpya lokā -
nbhuktvā bhogānsthaviṣṭhānpunarapi dhiṣaṇodbhāsitānkāmajanyān ।
pītvā sarvānviśeṣānsvapiti madhurabhuṅmāyayā bhojayanno
māyāsaṅkhyāturīyaṁ paramamṛtamajaṁ brahma yattannato'smi ॥ 1 ॥
yo viśvātmā vidhijaviṣayānprāśya bhogānsthaviṣṭhā -
npaścāccānyānsvamativibhavāñjyotiṣā svena sūkṣmān ।
sarvānetānpunarapi śanaiḥ svātmani sthāpayitvā
hitvā sarvānviśeṣānvigataguṇagaṇaḥ pātvasau nasturīyaḥ ॥ 2 ॥
omityetadakṣaramidaṁ sarvaṁ tasyopavyākhyānam । vedāntārthasārasaṅgrahabhūtamidaṁ prakaraṇacatuṣṭayam omityetadakṣaramityādi ārabhyate । ata eva na pṛthak sambandhābhidheyaprayojanāni vaktavyāni । yānyeva tu vedānte sambandhābhidheyaprayojanāni, tānyevehāpi bhavitumarhanti ; tathāpi prakaraṇavyācikhyāsunā saṅkṣepato vaktavyānīti manyante vyākhyātāraḥ । tatra prayojanavatsādhanābhivyañjakatvenābhidheyasambaddhaṁ śāstraṁ pāramparyeṇa viśiṣṭasambandhābhidheyaprayojanavadbhavati । kiṁ punastatprayojanamiti, ucyate — rogārtasyeva roganivṛttau svasthatā, tathā duḥkhātmakasyātmano dvaitaprapañcopaśame svasthatā ; advaitabhāvaḥ prayojanam । dvaitaprapañcasya cāvidyākṛtatvādvidyayā tadupaśamaḥ syāditi brahmavidyāprakāśanāya asyārambhaḥ kriyate ।
‘yatra hi dvaitamiva bhavati’ (bṛ. u. 2 । 4 । 14),
(bṛ. u. 4 । 5 । 15) ‘yatra vānyadiva syāttatrānyo'nyatpaśyedanyo'nyadvijānīyāt’ (bṛ. u. 4 । 3 । 31) ‘yatra tvasya sarvamātmaivābhūttatkena kaṁ paśyettatkena kaṁ vijānīyāt’ (bṛ. u. 4 । 5 । 15) ityādiśrutibhyo'syārthasya siddhiḥ । tatra tāvadoṅkāranirṇayāya prathamaṁ prakaraṇamāgamapradhānamātmatattvapratipattyupāyabhūtam । yasya dvaitaprapañcasyopaśame advaitapratipattiḥ rajjvāmiva sarpādivikalpopaśame rajjutattvapratipattiḥ, tasya dvaitasya hetuto vaitathyapratipādanāya dvitīyaṁ prakaraṇam । tathā advaitasyāpi vaitathyaprasaṅgaprāptau, yuktitastathātvapratipādanāya tṛtīyaṁ prakaraṇam । advaitasya tathātvapratipattivipakṣabhūtāni yāni vādāntarāṇyavaidikāni santi, teṣāmanyonyavirodhitvādatathārthatvena tadupapattibhireva nirākaraṇāya caturthaṁ prakaraṇam ॥
omityetadakṣaramidaṁ sarvaṁ tasyopavyākhyānaṁ bhūtaṁ bhavadbhaviṣyaditi sarvamoṅkāra eva । yaccānyattrikālātītaṁ tadapyoṅkāra eva ॥ 1 ॥
kathaṁ punaroṅkāranirṇaya ātmatattvapratipattyupāyatvaṁ pratipadyata iti, ucyate —
‘omityetat’ (ka. u. 1 । 2 । 15) ‘etadālambanam’ (ka. u. 1 । 2 । 17) ‘etadvai satyakāma paraṁ cāparaṁ ca brahma yadoṅkāraḥ । tasmādvidvānetenaivāyatanenaikataramanveti’ (pra. u. 5 । 2) ‘omityātmānaṁ yuñjīta’ (nā. 79) ‘omiti brahma’ (tai. u. 1 । 8 । 1) ‘oṅkāra evedaṁ sarvam’ (chā. u. 2 । 23 । 3) ityādiśrutibhyaḥ । rajjvādiriva sarpādivikalpasyāspadamadvaya ātmā paramārthataḥ sanprāṇādivikalpasyāspadaṁ yathā, tathā sarvo'pi vākprapañcaḥ prāṇādyātmavikalpaviṣaya oṅkāra eva । sa cātmasvarūpameva, tadabhidhāyakatvāt । oṅkāravikāraśabdābhidheyaśca sarvaḥ prāṇādirātmavikalpaḥ abhidhānavyatirekeṇa nāsti ;
‘vācārambhaṇaṁ vikāro nāmadheyam’ (chā. u. 6 । 1 । 4) ‘tadasyedaṁ vācā tantyā nāmabhirdāmabhiḥ sarvaṁ sitam , sarvaṁ hīdaṁ nāmani’ (ai. ā. 2 । 1 । 6) ityādiśrutibhyaḥ । ata āha — omityetadakṣaramidaṁ sarvamiti । yadidam arthajātamabhidheyabhūtam , tasya abhidhānāvyatirekāt , abhidhānabhedasya ca oṅkārāvyatirekāt oṅkāra evedaṁ sarvam । paraṁ ca brahma abhidhānābhidheyopāyapūrvakamavagamyata ityoṅkāra eva । tasya etasya parāparabrahmarūpasyākṣarasya omityetasya upavyākhyānam , brahmapratipattyupāyatvādbrahmasamīpatayā vispaṣṭaṁ prakathanamupavyākhyānam ; prastutaṁ veditavyamiti vākyaśeṣaḥ । bhūtaṁ bhavat bhaviṣyat iti kālatrayaparicchedyaṁ yat , tadapi oṅkāra eva, uktanyāyataḥ । yacca anyat trikālātītaṁ kāryādhigamyaṁ kālāparicchedyamavyākṛtādi, tadapi oṅkāra eva ॥
sarvaṁ hyetadbrahmāyamātmā brahma so'yamātmā catuṣpāt ॥ 2 ॥
abhidhānābhidheyayorekatve'pi abhidhānaprādhānyena nirdeśaḥ kṛtaḥ ‘omityetadakṣaramidaṁ sarvam’ ityādi । abhidhānaprādhānyena nirdiṣṭasya punarabhidheyaprādhānyena nirdeśaḥ abhidhānābhidheyayorekatvapratipattyarthaḥ । itarathā hi abhidhānatantrābhidheyapratipattiriti abhidheyasyābhidhānatvaṁ gauṇamityāśaṅkā syāt । ekatvapratipatteśca prayojanamabhidhānābhidheyayoḥ — ekenaiva prayatnena yugapatpravilāpayaṁstadvilakṣaṇaṁ brahma pratipadyeteti । tathā ca vakṣyati —
‘pādā mātrā mātrāśca pādāḥ’ (mā. u. 8) iti । tadāha — sarvaṁ hyetadbrahmeti । sarvaṁ yaduktamoṅkāramātramiti, tadetat brahma । tacca brahma parokṣābhihitaṁ pratyakṣato viśeṣeṇa nirdiśati — ayamātmā brahmeti । ayam iti catuṣpāttvena pravibhajyamānaṁ pratyagātmatayābhinayena nirdiśati ayamātmeti । so'yamātmā oṅkārābhidheyaḥ parāparatvena vyavasthitaḥ catuṣpāt kārṣāpaṇavat , na gauriva । trayāṇāṁ viśvādīnāṁ pūrvapūrvapravilāpanena turīyasya pratipattiriti karaṇasādhanaḥ pādaśabdaḥ ; turīyasya tu padyata iti karmasādhanaḥ pādaśabdaḥ ॥
jāgaritasthāno bahiḥprajñaḥ saptāṅga ekonaviṁśatimukhaḥ sthūlabhugvaiśvānaraḥ prathamaḥ pādaḥ ॥ 3 ॥
kathaṁ catuṣpāttvamityāha — jāgaritasthāna iti । jāgaritaṁ sthānamasyeti jāgaritasthānaḥ, bahiḥprajñaḥ svātmavyatirikte viṣaye prajñā yasya, saḥ bahiḥprajñaḥ ; bahirviṣayeva prajñā yasyāvidyākṛtāvabhāsata ityarthaḥ । tathā sapta aṅgānyasya ;
‘tasya ha vā etasyātmano vaiśvānarasya mūrdhaiva sutejāścakṣurviśvarūpaḥ prāṇaḥ pṛthagvartmātmā sandeho bahulo vastireva rayiḥ pṛthivyeva pādau’ (chā. u. 5 । 18 । 2) ityagnihotrāhutikalpanāśeṣatvenāgnirmukhatvenāhavanīya ukta ityevaṁ saptāṅgāni yasya, saḥ saptāṅgaḥ । tathā ekonaviṁśatirmukhānyasya ; buddhīndriyāṇi karmendriyāṇi ca daśa, vāyavaśca prāṇādayaḥ pañca, mano buddhirahaṅkāraścittamiti, mukhānīva mukhāni tāni ; upalabdhidvārāṇītyarthaḥ । sa evaṁviśiṣṭo vaiśvānaraḥ yathoktairdvāraiḥ śabdādīnsthūlānviṣayānbhuṅkta iti sthūlabhuk । viśveṣāṁ narāṇāmanekadhā sukhādinayanādviśvānaraḥ, yadvā viśvaścāsau naraśceti viśvānaraḥ, viśvānara eva vaiśvānaraḥ, sarvapiṇḍātmānanyatvāt ; sa prathamaḥ pādaḥ । etatpūrvakatvāduttarapādādhigamasya prāthamyamasya । katham ‘ayamātmā brahma’ iti pratyagātmano'sya catuṣpāttve prakṛte dyulokādīnāṁ mūrdhādyaṅgatvamiti ? naiṣa doṣaḥ, sarvasya prapañcasya sādhidaivikasya anenātmanā catuṣpāttvasya vivakṣitatvāt । evaṁ ca sati sarvaprapañcopaśame advaitasiddhiḥ । sarvabhūtasthaśca ātmā eko dṛṣṭaḥ syāt ; sarvabhūtāni cātmani ।
‘yastu sarvāṇi bhūtāni’ (ī. u. 6) ityādiśrutyarthaścaivamupasaṁhṛtaḥ syāt ; anyathā hi svadehaparicchinna eva pratyagātmā sāṅkhyādibhiriva dṛṣṭaḥ syāt ; tathā ca sati advaitamiti śrutikṛto viśeṣo na syāt , sāṅkhyādidarśanenāviśeṣāt । iṣyate ca sarvopaniṣadāṁ sarvātmaikyapratipādakatvam ; tato yuktamevāsya ādhyātmikasya piṇḍātmano dyulokādyaṅgatvena virāḍātmanādhidaivikenaikatvamityabhipretya saptāṅgatvavacanam ।
‘mūrdhā te vyapatiṣyat’ (chā. u. 5 । 12 । 2) ityādiliṅgadarśanācca । virājaikatvamupalakṣaṇārthaṁ hiraṇyagarbhāvyākṛtātmanoḥ । uktaṁ caitanmadhubrāhmaṇe —
‘yaścāyamasyāṁ pṛthivyāṁ tejomayo'mṛtamayaḥ puruṣo yaścāyamadhyātmam’ (bṛ. u. 2 । 5 । 1) ityādi । suṣuptāvyākṛtayostvekatvaṁ siddhameva, nirviśeṣatvāt । evaṁ ca satyetatsiddhaṁ bhaviṣyati — sarvadvaitopaśame cādvaitamiti ॥
svapnasthāno'ntaḥprajñaḥ saptāṅga ekonaviṁśatimukhaḥ praviviktabhuktaijaso dvitīyaḥ pādaḥ ॥ 4 ॥
svapnaḥ sthānamasya taijasasyeti svapnasthānaḥ । jāgratprajñā anekasādhanā bahirviṣayevāvabhāsamānā manaḥspandanamātrā satī tathābhūtaṁ saṁskāraṁ manasyādhatte ; tanmanaḥ tathā saṁskṛtaṁ citrita iva paṭo bāhyasādhanānapekṣamavidyākāmakarmabhiḥ preryamāṇaṁ jāgradvadavabhāsate । tathā coktam —
‘asya lokasya sarvāvato mātrāmapādāya’ (bṛ. u. 4 । 3 । 9) ityādi । tathā
‘pare deve manasyekībhavati’ (pra. u. 4 । 2) iti prastutya
‘atraiṣa devaḥ svapne mahimānamanubhavati’ (pra. u. 4 । 5) ityātharvaṇe । indriyāpekṣayā antaḥsthatvānmanasaḥ tadvāsanārūpā ca svapne prajñā yasyeti antaḥprajñaḥ, viṣayaśūnyāyāṁ prajñāyāṁ kevalaprakāśasvarūpāyāṁ viṣayitvena bhavatīti taijasaḥ । viśvasya saviṣayatvena prajñāyāḥ sthūlāyā bhojyatvam ; iha punaḥ kevalā vāsanāmātrā prajñā bhojyeti pravivikto bhoga iti । samānamanyat । dvitīyaḥ pādaḥ taijasaḥ ॥
yatra supto na kañcana kāmaṁ kāmayate na kañcana svapnaṁ paśyati tatsuṣuptam । suṣuptasthāna ekībhūtaḥ prajñānaghana evānandamayo hyānandabhukcetomukhaḥ prājñastṛtīyaḥ pādaḥ ॥ 5 ॥
darśanādarśanavṛttyoḥ svāpasya tulyatvātsuṣuptagrahaṇārthaṁ yatra supta ityādiviśeṣaṇam । athavā, triṣvapi sthāneṣu tattvāpratibodhalakṣaṇaḥ svāpo'viśiṣṭa iti pūrvābhyāṁ suṣuptaṁ vibhajate — yatra yasminsthāne kāle vā supto na kañcana kāmaṁ kāmayate na kañcana svapnaṁ paśyati । na hi suṣupte pūrvayorivānyathāgrahaṇalakṣaṇaṁ svapnadarśanaṁ kāmo vā kaścana vidyate । tadetatsuṣuptaṁ sthānamasyeti suṣuptasthānaḥ । sthānadvayapravibhaktaṁ manaḥspanditaṁ dvaitajātaṁ tathā rūpāparityāgenāvivekāpannaṁ naiśatamograstamivāhaḥ saprapañcamekībhūtamityucyate । ata eva svapnajāgranmanaḥspandanāni prajñānāni ghanībhūtānīva ; seyamavasthā avivekarūpatvātprajñānaghana ucyate । yathā rātrau naiśena tamasā avibhajyamānaṁ sarvaṁ ghanamiva, tadvatprajñānaghana eva । evaśabdānna jātyantaraṁ prajñānavyatirekeṇāstītyarthaḥ । manaso viṣayaviṣayyākāraspandanāyāsaduḥkhābhāvāt ānandamayaḥ ānandaprāyaḥ ; nānanda eva, anātyantikatvāt । yathā loke nirāyāsaḥ sthitaḥ sukhyānandabhugucyate । atyantānāyāsarūpā hīyaṁ sthitiranenātmanānubhūyata ityānandabhuk ,
‘eṣo'sya parama ānandaḥ’ (bṛ. u. 4 । 3 । 32) iti śruteḥ । svapnādipratibodhaṁ cetaḥ prati dvārībhūtatvāt cetomukhaḥ ; bodhalakṣaṇaṁ vā ceto dvāraṁ mukhamasya svapnādyāgamanaṁ pratīti cetomukhaḥ । bhūtabhaviṣyajjñātṛtvaṁ sarvaviṣayajñātṛtvamasyaiveti prājñaḥ । suṣupto'pi hi bhūtapūrvagatyā prājña ucyate । athavā, prajñaptimātramasyaiva asādhāraṇaṁ rūpamiti prājñaḥ ; itarayorviśiṣṭamapi vijñānamastīti । so'yaṁ prājñastṛtīyaḥ pādaḥ ॥
eṣa sarveśvara eṣa sarvajña eṣo'ntaryāmyeṣa yoniḥ sarvasya prabhavāpyayau hi bhūtānām ॥ 6 ॥
eṣaḥ hi svarūpāvasthaḥ sarveśvaraḥ sādhidaivikasya bhedajātasya sarvasya īśvaraḥ īśitā ; naitasmājjātyantarabhūto'nyeṣāmiva,
‘prāṇabandhanaṁ hi somya manaḥ’ (chā. u. 6 । 8 । 2) iti śruteḥ । ayameva hi sarvasya sarvabhedāvastho jñāteti eṣaḥ sarvajñaḥ । ata eva eṣaḥ antaryāmī, antaranupraviśya sarveṣāṁ bhūtānāṁ yamayitā niyantāpyeṣa eva । ata eva yathoktaṁ sabhedaṁ jagatprasūyata iti eṣaḥ yoniḥ sarvasya । yata evam , prabhavaścāpyayaśca prabhavāpyayau hi bhūtānāmeṣa eva ॥
atraite ślokā bhavanti —
bahiḥprajño vibhurviśvo hyantaḥprajñastu taijasaḥ ।
ghanaprajñastathā prājña eka eva tridhā sthitaḥ ॥ 1 ॥
atra etasminyathokte'rthe ete ślokā bhavanti — bahiḥprajña iti । paryāyeṇa tristhānatvāt so'hamiti smṛtyā pratisandhānācca sthānatrayavyatiriktatvamekatvaṁ śuddhatvamasaṅgatvaṁ ca siddhamityabhiprāyaḥ, mahāmatsyādidṛṣṭāntaśruteḥ ॥
dakṣiṇākṣimukhe viśvo manasyantastu taijasaḥ ।
ākāśe ca hṛdi prājñastridhā dehe vyavasthitaḥ ॥ 2 ॥
jāgaritāvasthāyāmeva viśvādīnāṁ trayāṇāmanubhavapradarśanārtho'yaṁ ślokaḥ — dakṣiṇākṣīti । dakṣiṇamakṣyeva mukham , tasminprādhānyena draṣṭā sthūlānāṁ viśvaḥ anubhūyate,
‘indho ha vai nāmaiṣa yo'yaṁ dakṣiṇe'kṣanpuruṣaḥ’ (bṛ. u. 4 । 2 । 2) iti śruteḥ । indho dīptiguṇo vaiśvānara ādītyāntargato vairāja ātmā cakṣuṣi ca draṣṭaikaḥ । nanvanyo hiraṇyagarbhaḥ, kṣetrajño dakṣiṇe'kṣiṇyakṣṇorniyantā draṣṭā cānyo dehasvāmī ; na, svato bhedānabhyupagamāt ;
‘eko devaḥ sarvabhūteṣu gūḍhaḥ’ (śve. u. 6 । 11) iti śruteḥ,
‘kṣetrajñaṁ cāpi māṁ viddhi sarvakṣetreṣu bhārata’ (bha. gī. 13 । 2) ‘avibhaktaṁ ca bhūteṣu vibhaktamiva ca sthitam’ (bha. gī. 13 । 16) iti smṛteśca ; sarveṣu karaṇeṣvaviśeṣeṣvapi dakṣiṇākṣiṇyupalabdhipāṭavadarśanāttatra viśeṣeṇa nirdeśo'sya viśvasya । dakṣiṇākṣigato dṛṣṭvā rūpaṁ nimīlitākṣastadeva smaranmanasyantaḥ svapna iva tadeva vāsanārūpābhivyaktaṁ paśyati । yathā tatra tathā svapne ; ataḥ manasi antastu taijaso'pi viśva eva । ākāśe ca hṛdi smaraṇākhyavyāpāroparame prājña ekībhūto ghanaprajña eva bhavati, manovyāpārābhāvāt । darśanasmaraṇe eva hi manaḥspanditam ; tadabhāve hṛdyevāviśeṣeṇa prāṇātmanāvasthānam ,
‘prāṇo hyevaitānsarvānsaṁvṛṅkte’ (chā. u. 4 । 3 । 3) iti śruteḥ । taijasaḥ hiraṇyagarbhaḥ, manaḥsthatvāt ;
‘liṅgaṁ manaḥ’ (bṛ. u. 4 । 4 । 6) ‘manomayo'yaṁ puruṣaḥ’ (bṛ. u. 5 । 6 । 1) ityādiśrutibhyaḥ । nanu, vyākṛtaḥ prāṇaḥ suṣupte ; tadātmakāni karaṇāni bhavanti ; kathamavyākṛtatā ? naiṣa doṣaḥ, avyākṛtasya deśakālaviśeṣābhāvāt । yadyapi prāṇābhimāne sati vyākṛtataiva prāṇasya ; tathāpi piṇḍaparicchinnaviśeṣābhimānanirodhaḥ prāṇe bhavatītyavyākṛta eva prāṇaḥ suṣupte paricchinnābhimānavatām । yathā prāṇalaye paricchinnābhimānināṁ prāṇo'vyākṛtaḥ, tathā prāṇābhimānino'pyaviśeṣāpattāvavyākṛtatā samānā, prasavabījātmakatvaṁ ca । tadadhyakṣaścaiko'vyākṛtāvasthaḥ । paricchinnābhimānināmadhyakṣāṇāṁ ca tenaikatvamiti pūrvoktaṁ viśeṣaṇamekībhūtaḥ prajñānaghana ityādyupapannam । tasminnetasminnuktahetusattvācca । kathaṁ prāṇaśabdatvamavyākṛtasya ?
‘prāṇabandhanaṁ hi somya manaḥ’ (chā. u. 6 । 8 । 2) iti śruteḥ । nanu, tatra
‘sadeva somya’ (chā. u. 6 । 2 । 1) iti prakṛtaṁ sadbrahma prāṇaśabdavācyam ; naiṣa doṣaḥ, bījātmakatvābhyupagamātsataḥ । yadyapi sadbrahma prāṇaśabdavācyaṁ tatra, tathāpi jīvaprasavabījātmakatvamaparityajyaiva prāṇaśabdatvaṁ sataḥ sacchabdavācyatā ca । yadi hi nirbījarūpaṁ vivakṣitaṁ brahmābhaviṣyat ,
‘neti neti’ (bṛ. u. 4 । 5 । 3) ‘yato vāco nivartante’ (tai. u. 2 । 9 । 1) ‘anyadeva tadviditādatho aviditādadhi’ (ke. u. 1 । 4) ityavakṣyat ;
‘na sattannāsaducyate’ (bha. gī. 13 । 12) iti smṛteḥ । nirbījatayaiva cet , sati pralīnānāṁ sampannānāṁ suṣuptipralayayoḥ punarutthānānupapattiḥ syāt ; muktānāṁ ca punarutpattiprasaṅgaḥ, bījābhāvāviśeṣāt , jñānadāhyabījābhāve ca jñānānarthakyaprasaṅgaḥ ; tasmātsabījatvābhyupagamenaiva sataḥ prāṇatvavyapadeśaḥ, sarvaśrutiṣu ca kāraṇatvavyapadeśaḥ । ata eva
‘akṣarātparataḥ paraḥ’ (mu. u. 2 । 1 । 2) ‘sabāhyābhyantaro hyajaḥ’ (mu. u. 2 । 1 । 2) ‘yato vāco nivartante’ (tai. u. 2 । 9 । 1) ‘neti neti’ (bṛ. u. 2 । 3 । 6) ityādinā bījatvāpanayanena vyapadeśaḥ । tāmabījāvasthāṁ tasyaiva prājñaśabdavācyasya turīyatvena dehādisambandhajāgradādirahitāṁ pāramārthikīṁ pṛthagvakṣyati । bījāvasthāpi ‘na kiñcidavediṣam’ ityutthitasya pratyayadarśanāddehe'nubhūyata eveti tridhā dehe vyavasthita ityucyate ॥
viśvo hi sthūlabhuṅ nityaṁ taijasaḥ praviviktabhuk ।
ānandabhuktathā prājñastridhā bhogaṁ nibodhata ॥ 3 ॥
sthūlaṁ tarpayate viśvaṁ praviviktaṁ tu taijasam ।
ānandaśca tathā prājñaṁ tridhā tṛptiṁ nibodhata ॥ 4 ॥
uktārthau hi ślokau ॥
triṣu dhāmasu yadbhojyaṁ bhoktā yaśca prakīrtitaḥ ।
vedaitadubhayaṁ yastu sa bhuñjāno na lipyate ॥ 5 ॥
triṣu dhāmasu jāgradādiṣu sthūlapraviviktānandākhyaṁ yadbhojyamekaṁ tridhābhūtam ; yaśca viśvataijasaprājñākhyo bhoktaikaḥ ‘so'ham’ ityekatvena pratisandhānāt draṣṭṛtvāviśeṣācca prakīrtitaḥ ; yo veda etadubhayaṁ bhojyabhoktṛtayā anekadhā bhinnam , saḥ bhuñjānaḥ na lipyate, bhojyasya sarvasyaikabhoktṛbhojyatvāt । na hi yasya yo viṣayaḥ, sa tena hīyate vardhate vā । na hyagniḥ svaviṣayaṁ dagdhvā kāṣṭhādi, tadvat ॥
prabhavaḥ sarvabhāvānāṁ satāmiti viniścayaḥ ।
sarvaṁ janayati prāṇaścetoṁśūnpuruṣaḥ pṛthak ॥ 6 ॥
satāṁ vidyamānānāṁ svena avidyākṛtanāmarūpamāyāsvarūpeṇa sarvabhāvānāṁ viśvataijasaprājñabhedānāṁ prabhavaḥ utpattiḥ । vakṣyati ca —
‘vandhyāputro na tattvena māyayā vāpi jāyate’ (mā. kā. 3 । 28) iti । yadi hyasatāmeva janma syāt , brahmaṇo'vyavahāryasya grahaṇadvārābhāvādasattvaprasaṅgaḥ । dṛṣṭaṁ ca rajjusarpādīnāmavidyākṛtamāyābījotpannānāṁ rajjvādyātmanā sattvam । na hi nirāspadā rajjusarpamṛgatṛṣṇikādayaḥ kvacidupalabhyante kenacit । yathā rajjvāṁ prāksarpotpatteḥ rajjvātmanā sarpaḥ sannevāsīt , evaṁ sarvabhāvānāmutpatteḥ prākprāṇabījātmanaiva sattvamiti । śrutirapi vakti
‘brahmaivedam’ (mu. u. 2 । 2 । 12) ‘ātmaivedamagra āsīt’ (bṛ. u. 1 । 4 । 1) iti । ataḥ sarvaṁ janayati prāṇaḥ cetoṁśūn aṁśava iva raveścidātmakasya puruṣasya cetorūpā jalārkasamāḥ prājñataijasaviśvabhedena devamanuṣyatiryagādidehabhedeṣu vibhāvyamānāścetoṁśavo ye, tān puruṣaḥ pṛthak sṛjati viṣayabhāvavilakṣaṇānagnivisphuliṅgavatsalakṣaṇān jalārkavacca jīvalakṣaṇāṁstvitarānsarvabhāvān prāṇo bījātmā janayati,
‘yathorṇanābhiḥ. . . yathāgneḥ kṣudrā visphuliṅgāḥ’ (bṛ. u. 2 । 1 । 20) ityādiśruteḥ ॥
vibhūtiṁ prasavaṁ tvanye manyante sṛṣṭicintakāḥ ।
svapnamāyāsarūpeti sṛṣṭiranyairvikalpitā ॥ 7 ॥
vibhūtirvistāra īśvarasya sṛṣṭiriti sṛṣṭicintakā manyante ; na tu paramārthacintakānāṁ sṛṣṭāvādara ityarthaḥ,
‘indro māyābhiḥ pururūpa īyate’ (bṛ. u. 2 । 5 । 19) iti śruteḥ । na hi māyāvinaṁ sūtramākāśe niḥkṣipya tena sāyudhamāruhya cakṣurgocaratāmatītya yuddhena khaṇḍaśaśchinnaṁ patitaṁ punarutthitaṁ ca paśyatāṁ tatkṛtamāyādisatattvacintāyāmādaro bhavati । tathaivāyaṁ māyāvinaḥ sūtraprasāraṇasamaḥ suṣuptasvapnādivikāsaḥ ; tadārūḍhamāyāvisamaśca tatsthaprājñataijasādiḥ ; sūtratadārūḍhābhyāmanyaḥ paramārthamāyāvī । sa eva bhūmiṣṭho māyācchannaḥ adṛśyamāna eva sthito yathā, tathā turīyākhyaṁ paramārthatattvam । atastaccintāyāmevādaro mumukṣūṇāmāryāṇām , na niṣprayojanāyāṁ sṛṣṭāvādara ityataḥ sṛṣṭicintakānāmevaite vikalpā ityāha — svapnamāyāsarūpeti । svapnasarūpā māyāsarūpā ceti ॥
icchāmātraṁ prabhoḥ sṛṣṭiriti sṛṣṭau viniścitāḥ ।
kālātprasūtiṁ bhūtānāṁ manyante kālacintakāḥ ॥ 8 ॥
icchāmātraṁ prabhoḥ satyasaṅkalpatvāt sṛṣṭiḥ ghaṭādīnāṁ saṅkalpanāmātram , na saṅkalpanātiriktam । kālādeva sṛṣṭiriti kecit ॥
bhogārthaṁ sṛṣṭirityanye krīḍārthamiti cāpare ।
devasyaiṣa svabhāvo'yamāptakāmasya kā spṛhā ॥ 9 ॥
bhogārtham , krīḍārthamiti ca anye sṛṣṭiṁ manyante । anayoḥ pakṣayordūṣaṇaṁ devasyaiṣa svabhāvo'yamiti devasya svabhāvapakṣamāśritya, sarveṣāṁ vā pakṣāṇām — āptakāmasya kā spṛheti । na hi rajjvādīnāmavidyāsvabhāvavyatirekeṇa sarpādyābhāsatve kāraṇaṁ śakyaṁ vaktum ॥
iti ।
nāntaḥprajñaṁ nabahiḥprajñaṁ nobhayataḥprajñaṁ naprajñānaghanaṁ naprajñaṁ nāprajñam । adṛśyamavyavahāryamagrāhyamalakṣaṇamacintyamavyapadeśyamekātmapratyayasāraṁ prapañcopaśamaṁ śāntaṁ śivamadvaitaṁ caturthaṁ manyante sa ātmā sa vijñeyaḥ ॥ 7 ॥
caturthaḥ pādaḥ kramaprāpto vaktavya ityāha — nāntaḥprajñamityādinā । sarvaśabdapravṛttinimittaśūnyatvāttasya śabdānabhidheyatvamiti viśeṣapratiṣedhenaiva turīyaṁ nirdidikṣati । śūnyameva tarhi ; tanna, mithyāvikalpasya nirnimittatvānupapatteḥ ; na hi rajatasarpapuruṣamṛgatṛṣṇikādivikalpāḥ śuktikārajjusthāṇūṣarādivyatirekeṇa avastvāspadāḥ śakyāḥ kalpayitum । evaṁ tarhi prāṇādisarvavikalpāspadatvātturīyasya śabdavācyatvamiti na pratiṣedhaiḥ pratyāyyatvamudakādhārāderiva ghaṭādeḥ ; na, prāṇādivikalpasyāvastutvācchuktikādiṣviva rajatādeḥ ; na hi sadasatoḥ sambandhaḥ śabdapravṛttinimittabhāk , avastutvāt ; nāpi pramāṇāntaraviṣayatvaṁ svarūpeṇa gavādivat , ātmano nirupādhikatvāt ; gavādivannāpi jātimattvam , advitīyatvena sāmānyaviśeṣābhāvāt ; nāpi kriyāvattvaṁ pācakādivat , avikriyatvāt ; nāpi guṇavattvaṁ nīlādivat , nirguṇatvāt ; ato nābhidhānena nirdeśamarhati । śaśaviṣāṇādisamatvānnirarthakatvaṁ tarhi ; na, ātmatvāvagame turīyasyānātmatṛṣṇāvyāvṛttihetutvāt śuktikāvagama iva rajatatṛṣṇāyāḥ ; na hi turīyasyātmatvāvagame sati avidyātṛṣṇādidoṣāṇāṁ sambhavo'sti ; na ca turīyasyātmatvānavagame kāraṇamasti, sarvopaniṣadāṁ tādarthyenopakṣayāt —
‘tattvamasi’ (chā. u. 6 । 8 । 7) ‘ayamātmā brahma’ (bṛ. u. 2 । 5 । 19) ‘tatsatyaṁ sa ātmā’ (chā. u. 6 । 8 । 7) ‘yatsākṣādaparokṣādbrahma’ (bṛ. u. 3 । 4 । 1) ‘sabāhyābhyantaro hyajaḥ’ (mu. u. 2 । 1 । 2) ‘ātmaivedaṁ sarvam’ (chā. u. 7 । 25 । 2) ityādīnām । so'yamātmā paramārthāparamārtharūpaścatuṣpādityuktaḥ । tasyāparamārtharūpamavidyākṛtaṁ rajjusarpādisamamuktaṁ pādatrayalakṣaṇaṁ bījāṅkurasthānīyam । athedānīmabījātmakaṁ paramārthasvarūpaṁ rajjusthānīyaṁ sarpādisthānīyoktasthānatrayanirākaraṇenāha — nāntaḥprajñamityādinā । nanvātmanaścatuṣpāttvaṁ pratijñāya pādatrayakathanenaiva caturthasyāntaḥprajñādibhyo'nyatve siddhe ‘nāntaḥprajñam’ ityādipratiṣedho'narthakaḥ ; na, sarpādivikalpapratiṣedhenaiva rajjusvarūpapratipattivattryavasthasyaivātmanasturīyatvena pratipipādayiṣitatvāt , ‘tattvamasi’ itivat । yadi hi tryavasthātmavilakṣaṇaṁ turīyamanyat , tatpratipattidvārābhāvāt śāstropadeśānarthakyaṁ śūnyatāpattirvā । rajjuriva sarpādibhirvikalpyamānā sthānatraye'pyātmaika eva antaḥprajñāditvena vikalpyate yadā, tadā antaḥprajñāditvapratiṣedhavijñānapramāṇasamakālameva ātmanyanarthaprapañcanivṛttilakṣaṇaṁ phalaṁ parisamāptamiti turīyādhigame pramāṇāntaraṁ sādhanāntaraṁ vā na mṛgyam ; rajjusarpavivekasamakāla iva rajjvāṁ sarpanivṛttiphale sati rajjvadhigamasya । yeṣāṁ punastamopanayanavyatirekeṇa ghaṭādhigame pramāṇaṁ vyāpriyate, teṣāṁ chedyāvayavasambandhaviyogavyatirekeṇa anyatarāvayave'pi cchidirvyāpriyata ityuktaṁ syāt । yadā punarghaṭatamasorvivekakaraṇe pravṛttaṁ pramāṇamanupāditsitatamonivṛttiphalāvasānaṁ chidiriva cchedyāvayavasambandhavivekakaraṇe pravṛttā tadavayavadvaidhībhāvaphalāvasānā, tadā nāntarīyakaṁ ghaṭavijñānaṁ na pramāṇaphalam । na ca tadvadapyātmanyadhyāropitāntaḥprajñatvādivivekakaraṇe pravṛttasya pratiṣedhavijñānapramāṇasya anupāditsitāntaḥprajñatvādinivṛttivyatirekeṇa turīye vyāpāropapattiḥ, antaḥprajñatvādi nivṛttisamakālameva pramātṛtvādibhedanivṛtteḥ । tathā ca vakṣyati —
‘jñāte dvaitaṁ na vidyate’ (mā. kā. 1 । 18) iti । jñānasya dvaitanivṛttikṣaṇavyatirekeṇa kṣaṇāntarānavasthānāt , avasthāne vā anavasthāprasaṅgāddvaitānivṛttiḥ ; tasmātpratiṣedhavijñānapramāṇavyāpārasamakālaiva ātmanyadhyāropitāntaḥprajñatvādyanarthanivṛttiriti siddham । nāntaḥprajñamiti taijasapratiṣedhaḥ ; nabahiḥprajñamiti viśvapratiṣedhaḥ ; nobhayataḥprajñamiti jāgaritasvapnayorantarālāvasthāpratiṣedhaḥ ; naprajñānaghanamiti suṣuptāvasthāpratiṣedhaḥ, bījabhāvāvivekasvarūpatvāt ; naprajñamiti yugapatsarvaviṣayajñātṛtvapratiṣedhaḥ ; nāprajñamityacaitanyapratiṣedhaḥ । kathaṁ punarantaḥprajñatvādīnāmātmani gamyamānānāṁ rajjvādau sarpādivatpratiṣedhādasattvaṁ gamyata iti, ucyate ; jñasvarūpāviśeṣe'pi itaretaravyabhicārādasatyatvaṁ rajjvādāviva sarpadhārādivikalpabhedavat ; sarvatrāvyabhicārājjñasvarūpasya satyatvam । suṣupte vyabhicaratīti cet ; na, suṣuptasyānubhūyamānatvāt ,
‘na hi vijñāturvijñāterviparilopo vidyate’ (bṛ. u. 4 । 3 । 30) iti śruteḥ ; ata eva adṛśyam । yasmādadṛśyam , tasmādavyavahāryam । agrāhyaṁ karmendriyaiḥ । alakṣaṇam aliṅgamityetat , ananumeyamityarthaḥ । ata eva acintyam । ata eva avyapadeśyaṁ śabdaiḥ । ekātmapratyayasāraṁ jāgradādisthāneṣu eka evāyamātmā ityavyabhicārī yaḥ pratyayaḥ, tenānusaraṇīyam ; athavā, eka ātmapratyayaḥ sāraḥ pramāṇaṁ yasya turīyasyādhigame, tatturīyamekātmapratyayasāram ,
‘ātmetyevopāsīta’ (bṛ. u. 1 । 4 । 7) iti śruteḥ । antaḥprajñatvādisthānidharmapratiṣedhaḥ kṛtaḥ । prapañcopaśamamiti jāgradādisthānadharmābhāva ucyate । ata eva śāntam avikriyam , śivaṁ yataḥ advaitaṁ bhedavikalparahitaṁ caturthaṁ turīyaṁ manyante, pratīyamānapādatrayarūpavailakṣaṇyāt । sa ātmā sa vijñeyaḥ iti । pratīyamānasarpadaṇḍabhūcchidrādivyatiriktā yathā rajjuḥ, tathā ‘tattvamasi’ ityādivākyārthaḥ ātmā
‘adṛṣṭo draṣṭā’ (bṛ. u. 3 । 7 । 23) ‘na hi draṣṭudṛṣṭerviparilopo vidyate’ (bṛ. u. 4 । 3 । 23) ityādibhirukto yaḥ, sa vijñeya iti bhūtapūrvagatyā । jñāte dvaitābhāvaḥ ॥
atraite ślokā bhavanti —
nivṛtteḥ sarvaduḥkhānāmīśānaḥ prabhuravyayaḥ ।
advaitaḥ sarvabhāvānāṁ devasturyo vibhuḥ smṛtaḥ ॥ 10 ॥
atraite ślokā bhavanti । prājñataijasaviśvalakṣaṇānāṁ sarvaduḥkhānāṁ nivṛtteḥ īśānaḥ turīya ātmā । īśāna ityasya padasya vyākhyānaṁ prabhuriti ; duḥkhanivṛttiṁ prati prabhurbhavatītyarthaḥ, tadvijñānanimittatvādduḥkhanivṛtteḥ । avyayaḥ na vyeti, svarūpānna vyabhicarati na cyavata ityetat । kutaḥ ? yasmāt advaitaḥ, sarvabhāvānām — sarpādīnāṁ rajjuradvayā satyā ca ; evaṁ turīyaḥ,
‘na hi draṣṭurdṛṣṭerviparilopo vidyate’ (bṛ. u. 4 । 3 । 23) iti śruteḥ — ato rajjusarpavanmṛṣātvāt । sa eṣa devaḥ dyotanāt turyaḥ caturthaḥ vibhuḥ vyāpī smṛtaḥ ॥
kāryakāraṇabaddhau tāviṣyete viśvataijasau ।
prājñaḥ kāraṇabaddhastu dvau tau turye na sidhyataḥ ॥ 11 ॥
viśvādīnāṁ sāmānyaviśeṣabhāvo nirūpyate turyayāthātmyāvadhāraṇārtham — kāryaṁ kriyata iti phalabhāvaḥ, kāraṇaṁ karotīti bījabhāvaḥ । tattvāgrahaṇānyathāgrahaṇābhyāṁ bījaphalabhāvābhyāṁ tau yathoktau viśvataijasau baddhau saṅgṛhītau iṣyete । prājñastu bījabhāvenaiva baddhaḥ । tattvāpratibodhamātrameva hi bījaṁ prājñatve nimittam । tataḥ dvau tau bījaphalabhāvau tattvāgrahaṇānyathāgrahaṇe turīye na sidhyataḥ na vidyete, na sambhavata ityarthaḥ ॥
nātmānaṁ na paraṁ caiva na satyaṁ nāpi cānṛtam ।
prājñaḥ kiñcana saṁvetti turyaṁ tatsarvadṛksadā ॥ 12 ॥
kathaṁ punaḥ kāraṇabaddhatvaṁ prājñasya turīye vā tattvāgrahaṇānyathāgrahaṇalakṣaṇau bandhau na sidhyata iti ? yasmāt — ātmānam , vilakṣaṇam , avidyābījaprasūtaṁ vedyaṁ bāhyaṁ dvaitam — prājño na kiñcana saṁvetti, yathā viśvataijasau ; tataścāsau tattvāgrahaṇena tamasā anyathāgrahaṇabījabhūtena baddho bhavati । yasmāt turyaṁ tatsarvadṛksadā turīyādanyasyābhāvāt sarvadā sadaiva bhavati, sarvaṁ ca taddṛkceti sarvadṛk ; tasmānna tattvāgrahaṇalakṣaṇaṁ bījam । tatra tatprasūtasyānyathāgrahaṇasyāpyata evābhāvaḥ । na hi savitari sadāprakāśātmake tadviruddhamaprakāśanamanyathāprakāśanaṁ vā sambhavati,
‘na hi draṣṭurdṛṣṭerviparilopo vidyate’ (bṛ. u. 4 । 3 । 23) iti śruteḥ । athavā, jāgratsvapnayoḥ sarvabhūtāvasthaḥ sarvavastudṛgābhāsasturīya eveti sarvadṛksadā,
‘nānyadato'sti draṣṭṛ’ (bṛ. u. 3 । 8 । 11) ityādiśruteḥ ॥
dvaitasyāgrahaṇaṁ tulyamubhayoḥ prājñaturyayoḥ ।
bījanidrāyutaḥ prājñaḥ sā ca turye na vidyate ॥ 13 ॥
nimittāntaraprāptāśaṅkānivṛttyartho'yaṁ ślokaḥ — kathaṁ dvaitāgrahaṇasya tulyatve kāraṇabaddhatvaṁ prājñasyaiva, na turīyasyeti prāptā āśaṅkā nivartyate ; yasmāt bījanidrāyutaḥ, tattvāpratibodho nidrā ; saiva ca viśeṣapratibodhaprasavasya bījam ; sā bījanidrā ; tayā yutaḥ prājñaḥ । sadāsarvadṛksvabhāvatvāttattvāpratibodhalakṣaṇā bījanidrā turye na vidyate ; ato na kāraṇabandhastasminnityabhiprāyaḥ ॥
svapnanidrāyutāvādyau prājñastvasvapnanidrayā ।
na nidrāṁ naiva ca svapnaṁ turye paśyanti niścitāḥ ॥ 14 ॥
svapnaḥ anyathāgrahaṇaṁ sarpa iva rajjvām , nidroktā tattvāpratibodhalakṣaṇaṁ tama iti ; tābhyāṁ svapnanidrābhyāṁ yutau viśvataijasau ; atastau kāryakāraṇabaddhāvityuktau । prājñastu svapnavarjitayā kevalayaiva nidrayā yuta iti kāraṇabaddha ityuktam । nobhayaṁ paśyanti turīye niścitāḥ brahmavida ityarthaḥ, viruddhatvātsavitarīva tamaḥ । ato na kāryakāraṇabaddha ityuktasturīyaḥ ॥
anyathā gṛhṇataḥ svapno nidrā tattvamajānataḥ ।
viparyāse tayoḥ kṣīṇe turīyaṁ padamaśnute ॥ 15 ॥
kadā turīye niścito bhavatītyucyate — svapnajāgaritayoḥ anyathā rajjvāṁ sarpavat gṛhṇataḥ tattvaṁ svapno bhavati ; nidrā tattvamajānataḥ tisṛṣvavasthāsu tulyā । svapnanidrayostulyatvādviśvataijasayorekarāśitvam । anyathāgrahaṇaprādhānyācca guṇabhūtā nidreti tasminviparyāsaḥ svapnaḥ । tṛtīye tu sthāne tattvāgrahaṇalakṣaṇā nidraiva kevalā viparyāsaḥ । ataḥ tayoḥ kāryakāraṇasthānayoḥ anyathāgrahaṇatattvāgrahaṇalakṣaṇaviparyāse kāryakāraṇabandharūpe paramārthatattvapratibodhataḥ kṣīṇe turīyaṁ padamaśnute ; tadā ubhayalakṣaṇaṁ bandhanaṁ tatrāpaśyaṁsturīye niścito bhavatītyarthaḥ ॥
anādimāyayā supto yadā jīvaḥ prabudhyate ।
ajamanidramasvapnamadvaitaṁ budhyate tadā ॥ 16 ॥
yo'yaṁ saṁsārī jīvaḥ, saḥ ubhayalakṣaṇena tattvāpratibodharūpeṇa bījātmanā, anyathāgrahaṇalakṣaṇena cānādikālapravṛttena māyālakṣaṇena svāpena, mamāyaṁ pitā putro'yaṁ naptā kṣetraṁ gṛhaṁ paśavaḥ, ahameṣāṁ svāmī sukhī duḥkhī kṣayito'hamanena vardhitaścānena ityevaṁprakārānsvapnān sthānadvaye'pi paśyansuptaḥ, yadā vedāntārthatattvābhijñena paramakāruṇikena guruṇā ‘nāsyevaṁ tvaṁ hetuphalātmakaḥ, kintu tattvamasi’ iti pratibodhyamānaḥ, tadaivaṁ pratibudhyate । katham ? nāsminbāhyamābhyantaraṁ vā janmādibhāvavikāro'sti, ataḥ ajam
‘sabāhyābhyantaro hyajaḥ’ (mu. u. 2 । 1 । 2) iti śruteḥ, sarvabhāvavikāravarjitamityarthaḥ । yasmājjanmādikāraṇabhūtam , nāsminnavidyātamobījaṁ nidrā vidyata iti anidram ; anidraṁ hi tatturīyam ; ata eva asvapnam , tannimittatvādanyathāgrahaṇasya । yasmācca anidramasvapnam , tasmādajam advaitaṁ turīyamātmānaṁ budhyate tadā ॥
prapañco yadi vidyeta nivarteta na saṁśayaḥ ।
māyāmātramidaṁ dvaitamadvaitaṁ paramārthataḥ ॥ 17 ॥
prapañcanivṛttyā cetpratibudhyate, anivṛtte prapañce kathamadvaitamiti, ucyate । satyamevaṁ syātprapañco yadi vidyeta ; rajjvāṁ sarpa iva kalpitatvānna tu sa vidyate । vidyamānaścet nivarteta, na saṁśayaḥ । na hi rajjvāṁ bhrāntibuddhyā kalpitaḥ sarpo vidyamānaḥ sanvivekato nivṛttaḥ ; na ca māyā māyāvinā prayuktā taddarśināṁ cakṣurbandhāpagame vidyamānā satī nivṛttā ; tathedaṁ prapañcākhyaṁ māyāmātraṁ dvaitam ; rajjuvanmāyāvivacca advaitaṁ paramārthataḥ ; tasmānna kaścitprapañcaḥ pravṛtto nivṛtto vāstītyabhiprāyaḥ ॥
vikalpo vinivarteta kalpito yadi kenacit ।
upadeśādayaṁ vādo jñāte dvaitaṁ na vidyate ॥ 18 ॥
nanu śāstā śāstraṁ śiṣya ityayaṁ vikalpaḥ kathaṁ nivṛtta iti, ucyate — vikalpo vinivarteta yadi kenacitkalpitaḥ syāt । yathā ayaṁ prapañco māyārajjusarpavat , tathā ayaṁ śiṣyādibhedavikalpo'pi prākpratibodhādevopadeśanimittaḥ ; ata upadeśādayaṁ vādaḥ — śiṣyaḥ śāstā śāstramiti । upadeśakārye tu jñāne nirvṛtte jñāte paramārthatattve, dvaitaṁ na vidyate ॥
iti ।
so'yamātmādhyakṣaramoṅkāro'dhimātraṁ pādā mātrā mātrāśca pādā akāra ukāro makāra iti ॥ 8 ॥
abhidheyaprādhānyena oṅkāraścatuṣpādātmeti vyākhyāto yaḥ, so'yam ātmā adhyakṣaram akṣaramadhikṛtya abhidhānaprādhānyena varṇyamāno'dhyakṣaram । kiṁ punastadakṣaramityāha — oṅkāraḥ । so'yamoṅkāraḥ pādaśaḥ pravibhajyamānaḥ, adhimātraṁ mātrāmadhikṛtya vartata ityadhimātram । katham ? ātmano ye pādāḥ, te oṅkārasya mātrāḥ । kāstāḥ ? akāra ukāro makāra iti ॥
jāgaritasthāno vaiśvānaro'kāraḥ prathamā mātrāpterādimattvādvāpnoti ha vai sarvānkāmānādiśca bhavati ya evaṁ veda ॥ 9 ॥
tatra viśeṣaniyamaḥ kriyate — jāgaritasthānaḥ vaiśvānaraḥ yaḥ, sa oṅkārasya akāraḥ prathamā mātrā । kena sāmānyenetyāha — āpteḥ ; āptirvyāptiḥ ; akāreṇa sarvā vāgvyāptā,
‘akāro vai sarvā vāk’ (ai. ā. 2 । 3 । 19) iti śruteḥ । tathā vaiśvānareṇa jagat ,
‘tasya ha vā etasyātmano vaiśvānarasya mūrdhaiva sutejāḥ’ (chā. u. 5 । 18 । 2) ityādiśruteḥ । abhidhānābhidheyayorekatvaṁ cāvocāma । ādirasya vidyata ityādimat ; yathaiva ādimadakārākhyamakṣaram , tathā vaiśvānaraḥ ; tasmādvā sāmānyādakāratvaṁ vaiśvānarasya । tadekatvavidaḥ phalamāha — āpnoti ha vai sarvānkāmān , ādiḥ prathamaśca bhavati mahatām , ya evaṁ veda, yathoktamekatvaṁ vedetyarthaḥ ॥
svapnasthānastaijasa ukāro dvitīyā mātrotkarṣādubhayatvādvotkarṣati ha vai jñānasantatiṁ samānaśca bhavati nāsyābrahmavitkule bhavati ya evaṁ veda ॥ 10 ॥
svapnasthānaḥ taijasaḥ yaḥ, sa oṅkārasya ukāraḥ dvitīyā mātrā । kena sāmānyenetyāha — utkarṣāt ; akārādutkṛṣṭa iva hyukāraḥ ; tathā taijaso viśvāt । ubhayatvādvā ; akāramakārayormadhyastha ukāraḥ ; tathā viśvaprājñayormadhye taijasaḥ ; ata ubhayabhāktvasāmānyāt । vidvatphalamucyate — utkarṣati ha vai jñānasantatiṁ vijñānasantatiṁ vardhayatītyarthaḥ ; samānaḥ tulyaśca, mitrapakṣasyeva śatrupakṣāṇāmapyapradveṣyo bhavati ; abrahmavicca asya kule na bhavati, ya evaṁ veda ॥
suṣuptasthānaḥ prājño makārastṛtīyā mātrā miterapītervā minoti ha vā idaṁ sarvamapītiśca bhavati ya evaṁ veda ॥ 11 ॥
suṣuptasthānaḥ prājñaḥ yaḥ, sa oṅkārasya makāraḥ tṛtīyā mātrā । kena sāmānyenetyāha — sāmānyamidamatra — miteḥ ; mitirmānam ; mīyete iva hi viśvataijasau prājñena pralayotpattyoḥ praveśanirgamābhyāṁ prastheneva yavāḥ ; tathā oṅkārasamāptau punaḥ prayoge ca praviśya nirgacchata iva akārokārau makāre । apītervā ; apītirapyaya ekībhāvaḥ ; oṅkāroccāraṇe hi antye'kṣare ekībhūtāviva akārokārau ; tathā viśvataijasau suṣuptakāle prājñe । ato vā sāmānyādekatvaṁ prājñamakārayoḥ । vidvatphalamāha — minoti ha vai idaṁ sarvam , jagadyāthātmyaṁ jānātītyarthaḥ ; apītiśca jagatkāraṇātmā ca bhavatītyarthaḥ । atrāvāntaraphalavacanaṁ pradhānasādhanastutyartham ॥
atraite ślokā bhavanti —
viśvasyātvavivakṣāyāmādisāmānyamutkaṭam ।
mātrāsampratipattau syādāptisāmānyameva ca ॥ 19 ॥
atra ete ślokā bhavanti । viśvasya atvam akāramātratvaṁ yadā vivakṣyate, tadā āditvasāmānyam uktanyāyena utkaṭam udbhūtaṁ dṛśyata ityarthaḥ । atvavivakṣāyāmityasya vyākhyānam — mātrāsampratipattau iti । viśvasya akāramātratvaṁ yadā sampratipadyate ityarthaḥ । āptisāmānyameva ca, utkaṭamityanuvartate, ca - śabdāt ॥
taijasasyotvavijñāna utkarṣo dṛśyate sphuṭam ।
mātrāsampratipattau syādubhayatvaṁ tathāvidham ॥ 20 ॥
taijasasya utvavijñāne ukāratvavivakṣāyām utkarṣo dṛśyate sphuṭaṁ spaṣṭamityarthaḥ । ubhayatvaṁ ca sphuṭameveti । pūrvavatsarvam ॥
makārabhāve prājñasya mānasāmānyamutkaṭam ।
mātrāsampratipattau tu layasāmānyameva ca ॥ 21 ॥
makāratve prājñasya mitilayāvutkṛṣṭe sāmānye ityarthaḥ ॥
triṣu dhāmasu yastulyaṁ sāmānyaṁ vetti niścitaḥ ।
sa pūjyaḥ sarvabhūtānāṁ vandyaścaiva mahāmuniḥ ॥ 22 ॥
yathoktasthānatraye yaḥ tulyamuktaṁ sāmānyaṁ vetti, evamevaitaditi niścitaḥ san saḥ pūjyaḥ vandyaśca brahmavit loke bhavati ॥
akāro nayate viśvamukāraścāpi taijasam ।
makāraśca punaḥ prājñaṁ nāmātre vidyate gatiḥ ॥ 23 ॥
yathoktaiḥ sāmānyaiḥ ātmapādānāṁ mātrābhiḥ saha ekatvaṁ kṛtvā yathoktoṅkāraṁ pratipadyate yo dhyāyī, tam akāraḥ nayate viśvaṁ prāpayati । akārālambanamoṅkāraṁ vidvānvaiśvānaro bhavatītyarthaḥ । tathā ukāraḥ taijasam ; makāraścāpi punaḥ prājñam , ca - śabdānnayata ityanuvartate । kṣīṇe tu makāre bījabhāvakṣayāt amātre oṅkāre gatiḥ na vidyate kvacidityarthaḥ ॥
iti ।
amātraścaturtho'vyavahāryaḥ prapañcopaśamaḥ śivo'dvaita evamoṅkāra ātmaiva saṁviśatyātmanātmānaṁ ya evaṁ veda ॥ 12 ॥
amātraḥ mātrā yasya na santi, saḥ amātraḥ oṅkāraḥ caturthaḥ turīyaḥ ātmaiva kevalaḥ abhidhānābhidheyarūpayorvāṅmanasayoḥ kṣīṇatvāt avyavahāryaḥ ; prapañcopaśamaḥ śivaḥ advaitaḥ saṁvṛttaḥ evaṁ yathoktavijñānavatā prayukta oṅkārastrimātrastripāda ātmaiva ; saṁviśati ātmanā svenaiva svaṁ pāramārthikamātmānam , ya evaṁ veda ; paramārthadarśanāt brahmavit tṛtīyaṁ bījabhāvaṁ dagdhvā ātmānaṁ praviṣṭa iti na punarjāyate, turīyasyābījatvāt । na hi rajjusarpayorviveke rajjvāṁ praviṣṭaḥ sarpaḥ buddhisaṁskārātpunaḥ pūrvavattadvivekināmutthāsyati । mandamadhyamadhiyāṁ tu pratipannasādhakabhāvānāṁ sanmārgagāmināṁ saṁnyāsināṁ mātrāṇāṁ pādānāṁ ca klṛptasāmānyavidāṁ yathāvadupāsyamāna oṅkāro brahmapratipattaye ālambanībhavati । tathā ca vakṣyati —
‘āśramāstrividhāḥ’ (mā. kā. 3 । 16) ityādi ॥
iti māṇḍūkyopaniṣatsamāptā ॥
atraite ślokā bhavanti —
oṅkāraṁ pādaśo vidyātpādā mātrā na saṁśayaḥ ।
oṅkāraṁ pādaśo jñātvā na kiñcidapi cintayet ॥ 24 ॥
pūrvavadatraite ślokā bhavanti । yathoktaiḥ sāmānyaiḥ pādā eva mātrāḥ, mātrāśca pādāḥ ; tasmāt oṅkāraṁ pādaśaḥ vidyāt ityarthaḥ । evamoṅkāre jñāte dṛṣṭārthamadṛṣṭārthaṁ vā na kiñcidapi prayojanaṁ cintayet , kṛtārthatvādityarthaḥ ॥
yuñjīta praṇave cetaḥ praṇavo brahma nirbhayam ।
praṇave nityayuktasya na bhayaṁ vidyate kvacit ॥ 25 ॥
praṇavo hyaparaṁ brahma praṇavaśca paraṁ smṛtaḥ ।
apūrvo'nantaro'bāhyo'naparaḥ praṇavo'vyayaḥ ॥ 26 ॥
parāpare brahmaṇī praṇavaḥ ; paramārthataḥ kṣīṇeṣu mātrāpādeṣu para evātmā brahma iti ; na pūrvaṁ kāraṇamasya vidyata ityapūrvaḥ ; nāsya antaraṁ bhinnajātīyaṁ kiñcidvidyata iti anantaraḥ, tathā bāhyamanyat na vidyata ityabāhyaḥ ; aparaṁ kāryamasya na vidyata ityanaparaḥ, sabāhyābhyantaro hyajaḥ saindhavaghanavatprajñānaghana ityarthaḥ ॥
sarvasya praṇavo hyādirmadhyamantastathaiva ca ।
evaṁ hi praṇavaṁ jñātvā vyaśnute tadanantaram ॥ 27 ॥
ādimadhyāntā utpattisthitipralayāḥ sarvasya praṇava eva । māyāhastirajjusarpamṛgatṛṣṇikāsvapnādivadutpadyamānasya viyadādiprapañcasya yathā māyāvyādayaḥ, evaṁ hi praṇavamātmānaṁ māyāvyādisthānīyaṁ jñātvā tatkṣaṇādeva tadātmabhāvaṁ vyaśnuta ityarthaḥ ॥
praṇavaṁ hīśvaraṁ vidyātsarvasya hṛdaye sthitam ।
sarvavyāpinamoṅkāraṁ matvā dhīro na śocati ॥ 28 ॥
sarvasya prāṇijātasya smṛtipratyayāspade hṛdaye sthitamīśvaraṁ praṇavaṁ vidyāt sarvavyāpinaṁ vyomavat oṅkāramātmānamasaṁsāriṇaṁ dhīraḥ dhīmānbuddhimān ātmatattvaṁ matvā jñātvā na śocati, śokanimittānupapatteḥ,
‘tarati śokamātmavit’ (chā. u. 7 । 1 । 3) ityādiśrutibhyaḥ ॥
amātro'nantamātraśca dvaitasyopaśamaḥ śivaḥ ।
oṅkāro vidito yena sa munirnetaro janaḥ ॥ 29 ॥
amātraḥ turīya oṅkāraḥ, mīyate anayeti mātrā paricchittiḥ, sā anantā yasya saḥ anantamātraḥ ; naitāvattvamasya paricchettuṁ śakyata ityarthaḥ । sarvadvaitopaśamatvādeva śivaḥ । oṅkāro yathāvyākhyāto vidito yena, sa eva paramārthatattvasya mananānmuniḥ ; netaro janaḥ śāstravidapītyarthaḥ ॥
iti prathamamāgamaprakaraṇaṁ sampūrṇam ॥
vaitathyaṁ sarvabhāvānāṁ svapna āhurmanīṣiṇaḥ ।
antaḥsthānāttu bhāvānāṁ saṁvṛtatvena hetunā ॥ 1 ॥
‘jñāte dvaitaṁ na vidyate’ ityuktam
‘ekamevādvitīyam’ (chā. u. 6 । 2 । 1) ityādiśrutibhyaḥ । āgamamātraṁ tat । tatra upapattyāpi dvaitasya vaitathyaṁ śakyate'vadhārayitumiti dvitīyaṁ prakaraṇamārabhyate — vaitathyamityādinā । vitathasya bhāvo vaitathyam ; asatyatvamityarthaḥ । kasya ? sarveṣāṁ bāhyādhyātmikānāṁ bhāvānāṁ padārthānāṁ svapne upalabhyamānānām , āhuḥ kathayanti manīṣiṇaḥ pramāṇakuśalāḥ । vaitathye hetumāha — antaḥsthānāt , antaḥ śarīrasya madhye sthānaṁ yeṣām ; tatra hi bhāvā upalabhyante parvatahastyādayaḥ, na bahiḥ śarīrāt ; tasmāt te vitathā bhavitumarhanti । nanu apavarakādyantarupalabhyamānairghaṭādibhiranaikāntiko heturityāśaṅkyāha — saṁvṛtatvena hetuneti । antaḥ saṁvṛtasthānādityarthaḥ । na hyantaḥ saṁvṛte dehāntarnāḍīṣu parvatahastyādīnāṁ sambhavo'sti ; na hi dehe parvato'sti ॥
adīrghatvācca kālasya gatvā dehānna paśyati ।
pratibuddhaśca vai sarvastasmindeśe na vidyate ॥ 2 ॥
svapnadṛśyānāṁ bhāvānāmantaḥ saṁvṛtasthānamityetadasiddham , yasmātprācyeṣu supta udakṣu svapnānpaśyanniva dṛśyata ityetadāśaṅkyāha — na dehādbahirdeśāntaraṁ gatvā svapnānpaśyati ; yasmātsuptamātra eva dehadeśādyojanaśatāntarite māsamātraprāpye deśe svapnānpaśyanniva dṛśyate ; na ca taddeśaprāpterāgamanasya ca dīrghaḥ kālo'sti ; ataḥ adīrghatvācca kālasya na svapnadṛgdeśāntaraṁ gacchati । kiñca, pratibuddhaśca vai sarvaḥ svapnadṛk svapnadarśanadeśe na vidyate । yadi ca svapne deśāntaraṁ gacchet , yasmindeśe svapnānpaśyet , tatraiva pratibudhyeta । na caitadasti । rātrau suptaḥ ahanīva bhāvānpaśyati ; bahubhiḥ saṅgato bhavati ; yaiśca saṅgataḥ sa tairgṛhyeta, na ca gṛhyate ; gṛhītaścettvāmadya tatropalabdhavanto vayamiti brūyuḥ ; na caitadasti । tasmānna deśāntaraṁ gacchati svapne ॥
abhāvaśca rathādīnāṁ śrūyate nyāyapūrvakam ।
vaitathyaṁ tena vai prāptaṁ svapna āhuḥ prakāśitam ॥ 3 ॥
itaśca svapnadṛśyā bhāvā vitathāḥ, yataḥ abhāvaśca rathādīnāṁ svapnadṛśyānāṁ śrūyate, nyāyapūrvakaṁ yuktitaḥ śrutau
‘na tatra rathāḥ’ (bṛ. u. 4 । 3 । 10) ityatra । tena antaḥsthānasaṁvṛtatvādihetunā prāptaṁ vaitathyaṁ tadanuvādinyā śrutyā svapne svayañjyotiṣṭvapratipādanaparayā prakāśitamāhuḥ brahmavidaḥ ॥
antaḥsthānāttu bhedānāṁ tasmājjāgarite smṛtam ।
yathā tatra tathā svapne saṁvṛtatvena bhidyate ॥ 4 ॥
jāgraddṛśyānāṁ bhāvānāṁ vaitathyamiti pratijñā । dṛśyatvāditi hetuḥ । svapnadṛśyabhāvavaditi dṛṣṭāntaḥ । yathā tatra svapne dṛśyānāṁ bhāvānāṁ vaitathyam , tathā jāgarite'pi dṛśyatvamaviśiṣṭamiti hetūpanayaḥ । tasmājjāgarite'pi vaitathyaṁ smṛtamiti nigamanam । antaḥsthānātsaṁvṛtatvena ca svapnadṛśyānāṁ bhāvānāṁ jāgraddṛśyebhyo bhedaḥ । dṛśyatvamasatyatvaṁ cāviśiṣṭamubhayatra ॥
svapnajāgarite sthāne hyekamāhurmanīṣiṇaḥ ।
bhedānāṁ hi samatvena prasiddhenaiva hetunā ॥ 5 ॥
prasiddhenaiva bhedānāṁ grāhyatvena hetunā samatvena svapnajāgaritasthānayorekatvamāhurvivekina iti pūrvapramāṇasiddhasyaiva phalam ॥
ādāvante ca yannāsti vartamāne'pi tattathā ।
vitathaiḥ sadṛśāḥ santo'vitathā iva lakṣitāḥ ॥ 6 ॥
itaśca vaitathyaṁ jāgraddṛśyānāṁ bhedānām ādyantayorabhāvāt , yadādāvante ca nāsti vastu mṛgatṛṣṇikādi, tanmadhye'pi nāstīti niścitaṁ loke ; tatheme jāgraddṛśyā bhedāḥ ādyantayorabhāvāt vitathaireva mṛgatṛṣṇikādibhiḥ sadṛśatvādvitathā eva ; tathāpi avitathā iva lakṣitā mūḍhairanātmavidbhiḥ ॥
saprayojanatā teṣāṁ svapne vipratipadyate ।
tasmādādyantavattvena mithyaiva khalu te smṛtāḥ ॥ 7 ॥
svapnadṛśyavajjāgaritadṛśyānāmapyasattvamiti yaduktam tadayuktam ; yasmājjāgraddṛśyā annapānavāhanādayaḥ kṣutpipāsādinivṛttiṁ kurvanto gamanāgamanādi kāryaṁ ca saprayojanā dṛṣṭāḥ । na tu svapnadṛśyānāṁ tadasti । tasmātsvapnadṛśyavajjāgraddṛśyānāmasattvaṁ manorathamātramiti । tanna । kasmāt ? yasmādyā saprayojanatā dṛṣṭā annapānādīnām , sā svapne vipratipadyate । jāgarite hi bhuktvā pītvā ca tṛpto vinivartitatṛṭ suptamātra eva kṣutpipāsādyārtamahorātropoṣitamabhuktavantamātmānaṁ manyate, yathā svapne bhuktvā pītvā ca atṛptotthitaḥ, tathā । tasmājjāgraddṛśyānāṁ svapne vipratipattirdṛṣṭā । ato manyāmahe teṣāmapyasattvaṁ svapnadṛśyavadanāśaṅkanīyamiti । tasmādādyantavattvamubhayatra samānamiti mithyaiva khalu te smṛtāḥ ॥
apūrvaṁ sthānidharmo hi yathā svarganivāsinām ।
tānayaṁ prekṣate gatvā yathaiveha suśikṣitaḥ ॥ 8 ॥
svapnajāgradbhedayoḥ samatvājjāgradbhedānāmasattvamiti yaduktam , tadasat । kasmāt ? dṛṣṭāntasyāsiddhatvāt । katham ? na hi jāgraddṛśyā ye, te bhedāḥ svapne dṛśyante । kiṁ tarhi ? apūrvaṁ svapne paśyati caturdantaṁ gajamārūḍho'ṣṭabhujamātmānam । anyadapyevaṁprakāramapūrvaṁ paśyati svapne । tannānyenāsatā samamiti sadeva । ato dṛṣṭānto'siddhaḥ । tasmātsvapnavajjāgaritasyāsattvamityayuktam । tanna । svapne dṛṣṭamapūrvaṁ yanmanyase, na tatsvataḥ siddham । kiṁ tarhi ? apūrvaṁ sthānidharmo hi, sthānino draṣṭureva hi svapnasthānavato dharmaḥ ; yathā svarganivāsināmindrādīnāṁ sahasrākṣatvādi, tathā svapnadṛśo'pūrvo'yaṁ dharmaḥ, na svataḥsiddho draṣṭuḥ svarūpavat । tān evaṁprakārānapūrvānsvacittavikalpān ayaṁ sthānī yaḥ svapnadṛksvapnasthānaṁ gatvā prekṣate । yathaiva iha loke suśikṣitadeśāntaramārgastena mārgeṇa deśāntaraṁ gatvā padārthānpaśyati, tadvat । tasmādyathā sthānidharmāṇāṁ rajjusarpamṛgatṛṣṇikādīnāmasattvam , tathā svapnadṛśyānāmapyapūrvāṇāṁ sthānidharmatvamevetyasattvam ; ato na svapnadṛṣṭāntasyāsiddhatvam ॥
svapnavṛttāvapi tvantaścetasā kalpitaṁ tvasat ।
bahiśceto gṛhītaṁ saddṛṣṭaṁ vaitathyametayoḥ ॥ 9 ॥
apūrvatvāśaṅkāṁ nirākṛtya svapnadṛṣṭāntasya punaḥ svapnatulyatāṁ jāgradbhedānāṁ prapañcayannāha — svapnavṛttāvapi svapnasthāne'pi antaścetasā manorathasaṅkalpitamasat ; saṅkalpānantarasamakālamevādarśanāt । tatraiva svapne bahiścetasā gṛhītaṁ cakṣurādidvāreṇopalabdhaṁ ghaṭādi sadityevamasatyamiti niścite'pi sadasadvibhāgo dṛṣṭaḥ । ubhayorapyantarbahiścetaḥ kalpitayorvaitathyameva dṛṣṭam ॥
jāgradvṛttāvapi tvantaścetasā kalpitaṁ tvasat ।
bahiścetogṛhītaṁ sadyuktaṁ vaitathyametayoḥ ॥ 10 ॥
sadasatorvaitathyaṁ yuktam , antarbahiścetaḥkalpitatvāviśeṣāditi । vyākhyātamanyat ॥
ubhayorapi vaitathyaṁ bhedānāṁ sthānayoryadi ।
ka etānbudhyate bhedānko vai teṣāṁ vikalpakaḥ ॥ 11 ॥
codaka āha — svapnajāgratsthānayorbhedānāṁ yadi vaitathyam , ka etānantarbahiścetaḥkalpitānbudhyate । ko vai teṣāṁ vikalpakaḥ ; smṛtijñānayoḥ ka ālambanamityabhiprāyaḥ ; na cennirātmavāda iṣṭaḥ ॥
kalpayatyātmanātmānamātmā devaḥ svamāyayā ।
sa eva budhyate bhedāniti vedāntaniścayaḥ ॥ 12 ॥
svayaṁ svamāyayā svamātmānamātmā devaḥ ātmanyeva vakṣyamāṇaṁ bhedākāraṁ kalpayati rajjvādāviva sarpādīn , svayameva ca tānbudhyate bhedān , tadvadevetyevaṁ vedāntaniścayaḥ । nānyo'sti jñānasmṛtyāśrayaḥ । na ca nirāspade eva jñānasmṛtī vaināśikānāmivetyabhiprāyaḥ ॥
vikarotyaparānbhāvānantaścitte vyavasthitān ।
niyatāṁśca bahiścitta evaṁ kalpayate prabhuḥ ॥ 13 ॥
saṅkalpayankena prakāreṇa kalpayatītyucyate — vikaroti nānā karoti aparān laukikān bhāvān padārthāñśabdādīnanyāṁśca antaścitte vāsanārūpeṇa vyavasthitānavyākṛtān niyatāṁśca pṛthivyādīnaniyatāṁśca kalpanākālān bahiścittaḥ san , tathā antaścitto manorathādilakṣaṇānityevaṁ kalpayati, prabhuḥ īśvaraḥ, ātmetyarthaḥ ॥
cittakālā hi ye'ntastu dvayakālāśca ye bahiḥ ।
kalpitā eva te sarve viśeṣo nānyahetukaḥ ॥ 14 ॥
svapnavaccittaparikalpitaṁ sarvamityetadāśaṅkyate — yasmāccittaparikalpitairmanorathādilakṣaṇaiścittaparicchedyairvailakṣaṇyaṁ bāhyānāmanyonyaparicchedyatvamiti, sā na yuktāśaṅkā । cittakālā hi ye'ntastu cittaparicchedyāḥ, nānyaścittakālavyatirekeṇa paricchedakaḥ kālo yeṣām , te cittakālāḥ ; kalpanākāla evopalabhyanta ityarthaḥ । dvayakālāśca bhedakālā anyonyaparicchedyāḥ, yathā āgodohanamāste ; yāvadāste tāvadgāṁ dogdhi ; yāvadgāṁ dogdhi tāvadāste, tāvānayametāvānsa iti parasparaparicchedyaparicchedakatvaṁ bāhyānāṁ bhedānām , te dvayakālāḥ । antaścittakālā bāhyāśca dvayakālāḥ kalpitā eva te sarve । na bāhyo dvayakālatvaviśeṣaḥ kalpitatvavyatirekeṇānyahetukaḥ । atrāpi hi svapnadṛṣṭānto bhavatyeva ॥
avyaktā eva ye'ntastu sphuṭā eva ca ye bahiḥ ।
kalpitā eva te sarve viśeṣastvindriyāntare ॥ 15 ॥
yadapi antaravyaktatvaṁ bhāvānāṁ manovāsanāmātrābhivyaktānāṁ sphuṭatvaṁ vā bahiścakṣurādīndriyāntare viśeṣaḥ, nāsau bhedānāmastitvakṛtaḥ, svapne'pi tathā darśanāt । kiṁ tarhi ? indriyāntarakṛta eva । ataḥ kalpitā eva jāgradbhāvā api svapnabhāvavaditi siddham ॥
jīvaṁ kalpayate pūrvaṁ tato bhāvānpṛthagvidhān ।
bāhyānādhyātmikāṁścaiva yathāvidyastathāsmṛtiḥ ॥ 16 ॥
bāhyādhyātmikānāṁ bhāvānāmitaretaranimittanaimittikatayā kalpanāyāḥ kiṁ mūlamityucyate — jīvaṁ hetuphalātmakam ‘ahaṁ karomi, mama sukhaduḥkhe’ ityevaṁlakṣaṇam । anevaṁlakṣaṇa eva śuddha ātmani rajjvāmiva sarpaṁ kalpayate pūrvam । tatastādarthyena kriyākārakaphalabhedena prāṇādīnnānāvidhānbhāvānbāhyānādhyātmikāṁścaiva kalpayate । tatra kalpanāyāṁ ko heturityucyate — yo'sau svayaṁ kalpito jīvaḥ sarvakalpanāyāmadhikṛtaḥ, saḥ yathāvidyaḥ yādṛśī vidyā vijñānamasyeti yathāvidyaḥ, tathāvidhaiva smṛtistasyeti tathāsmṛtirbhavati sa iti । ato hetukalpanāvijñānātphalavijñānam , tato hetuphalasmṛtiḥ, tatastadvijñānam , tataḥ tadarthakriyākārakatatphalabhedavijñānāni, tebhyastatsmṛtiḥ, tatsmṛteśca punastadvijñānāni ityevaṁ bāhyānādhyātmikāṁśca itaretaranimittanaimittikabhāvenānekadhā kalpayate ॥
aniścitā yathā rajjurandhakāre vikalpitā ।
sarpadhārādibhirbhāvaistadvadātmā vikalpitaḥ ॥ 17 ॥
tatra jīvakalpanā sarvakalpanāmūlamityuktam ; saiva jīvakalpanā kiṁnimitteti dṛṣṭāntena pratipādayati — yathā loke svena rūpeṇa aniścitā anavadhāritā evameveti rajjuḥ mandāndhakāre kiṁ sarpa udakadhārā daṇḍa iti vā anekadhā vikalpitā bhavati pūrvaṁ svarūpāniścayanimittam । yadi hi pūrvameva rajjuḥ svarūpeṇa niścitā syāt , na sarpādivikalpo'bhaviṣyat , yathā svahastāṅgulyādiṣu ; eṣa dṛṣṭāntaḥ । tadvaddhetuphalādisaṁsāradharmānarthavilakṣaṇatayā svena viśuddhavijñaptimātrasattādvayarūpeṇāniścitatvājjīvaprāṇādyanantabhāvabhedairātmā vikalpita ityeṣa sarvopaniṣadāṁ siddhāntaḥ ॥
niścitāyāṁ yathā rajjvāṁ vikalpo vinivartate ।
rajjureveti cādvaitaṁ tadvadātmaviniścayaḥ ॥ 18 ॥
rajjureveti niścaye sarpādivikalpanivṛttau rajjureveti cādvaitaṁ yathā, tathā neti netīti sarvasaṁsāradharmaśūnyapratipādakaśāstrajanitavijñānasūryālokakṛtātmaviniścayaḥ ‘ātmaivedaṁ sarvamapūrvo'naparo'nantaro'bāhyaḥ sabāhyābhyantaro hyajo'jaro'mṛto'bhaya eka evādvayaḥ’ iti ॥
prāṇādibhiranantaistu bhāvairetairvikalpitaḥ ।
māyaiṣā tasya devasya yayāyaṁ mohitaḥ svayam ॥ 19 ॥
yadi ātmaika eveti niścayaḥ, kathaṁ prāṇādibhiranantairbhāvairetaiḥ saṁsāralakṣaṇairvikalpita iti ? ucyate śṛṇu — māyaiṣā tasyātmano devasya । yathā māyāvinā vihitā māyā gaganamativimalaṁ kusumitaiḥ sapalāśaistarubhirākīrṇamiva karoti, tathā iyamapi devasya māyā, yayā ayaṁ svayamapi mohita iva mohito bhavati ।
‘mama māyā duratyayā’ (bha. gī. 7 । 14) ityuktam ॥
prāṇa iti prāṇavido bhūtānīti ca tadvidaḥ ।
guṇā iti guṇavidastattvānīti ca tadvidaḥ ॥ 20 ॥
pādā iti pādavido viṣayā iti tadvidaḥ ।
lokā iti lokavido devā iti ca tadvidaḥ ॥ 21 ॥
vedā iti vedavido yajñā iti ca tadvidaḥ ।
bhokteti ca bhoktṛvido bhojyamiti ca tadvidaḥ ॥ 22 ॥
sūkṣma iti sūkṣmavidaḥ sthūla iti ca tadvidaḥ ।
mūrta iti mūrtavido'mūrta iti ca tadvidaḥ ॥ 23 ॥
kāla iti kālavido diśa iti ca tadvidaḥ ।
vādā iti vādavido bhuvanānīti tadvidaḥ ॥ 24 ॥
mana iti manovido buddhiriti ca tadvidaḥ ।
cittamiti cittavido dharmādharmau ca tadvidaḥ ॥ 25 ॥
pañcaviṁśaka ityeke ṣaḍviṁśa iti cāpare ।
ekatriṁśaka ityāhurananta iti cāpare ॥ 26 ॥
lokāṁllokavidaḥ prāhurāśramā iti tadvidaḥ ।
strīpuṁnapuṁsakaṁ laiṅgāḥ parāparamathāpare ॥ 27 ॥
sṛṣṭiriti sṛṣṭivido laya iti ca tadvidaḥ ।
sthitiriti sthitividaḥ sarve ceha tu sarvadā ॥ 28 ॥
prāṇaḥ prājño bījātmā, tatkāryabhedā hītare sthityantāḥ । anye ca sarve laukikāḥ sarvaprāṇiparikalpitā bhedā rajjvāmiva sarpādayaḥ । tacchūnye ātmanyātmasvarūpāniścayahetoravidyayā kalpitā iti piṇḍito'rthaḥ । prāṇādiślokānāṁ pratyekaṁ padārthavyākhyāne phalguprayojanatvātsiddhapadārthatvācca yatno na kṛtaḥ ॥
yaṁ bhāvaṁ darśayedyasya taṁ bhāvaṁ sa tu paśyati ।
taṁ cāvati sa bhūtvāsau tadgrahaḥ samupaiti tam ॥ 29 ॥
kiṁ bahunā ? prāṇādīnāmanyatamamuktamanuktaṁ vā anyaṁ yaṁ bhāvaṁ padārthaṁ darśayedyasyācāryo'nyo vā āptaḥ idameva tattvamiti, sa taṁ bhāvamātmabhūtaṁ paśyatyayamahamiti vā mameti vā, taṁ ca draṣṭāraṁ sa bhāvo'vati, yo darśito bhāvaḥ, asau sa bhūtvā rakṣati ; svenātmanā sarvato niruṇaddhi । tasmingrahastadgrahastadabhiniveśaḥ idameva tattvamiti sa taṁ grahītāramupaiti, tasyātmabhāvaṁ nigacchatītyarthaḥ ॥
etaireṣo'pṛthagbhāvaiḥ pṛthageveti lakṣitaḥ ।
evaṁ yo veda tattvena kalpayetso'viśaṅkitaḥ ॥ 30 ॥
etaiḥ prāṇādibhiḥ ātmano'pṛthagbhūtairapṛthagbhāvaiḥ eṣaḥ ātmā rajjuriva sarpādivikalpanārūpaiḥ pṛthageveti lakṣitaḥ abhilakṣitaḥ niścitaḥ mūḍhairityarthaḥ । vivekināṁ tu rajjvāmiva kalpitāḥ sarpādayo nātmavyatirekeṇa prāṇādayaḥ santītyabhiprāyaḥ ;
‘idaṁ sarvaṁ yadayamātmā’ (bṛ. u. 2 । 4 । 6) iti śruteḥ । evamātmavyatirekeṇāsattvaṁ rajjusarpavadātmani kalpitānāmātmānaṁ ca kevalaṁ nirvikalpaṁ yo veda tattvena śrutito yuktitaśca, saḥ aviśaṅkito vedārthaṁ vibhāgataḥ kalpayet kalpayatītyarthaḥ — idamevaṁparaṁ vākyam ado'nyaparam iti । na hyanadhyātmavidvedānjñātuṁ śaknoti tattvataḥ,
‘na hyanadhyātmavitkaścitkriyāphalamupāśnute’ (manu. 6 । 82) iti hi mānavaṁ vacanam ॥
svapnamāye yathā dṛṣṭe gandharvanagaraṁ yathā ।
tathā viśvamidaṁ dṛṣṭaṁ vedānteṣu vicakṣaṇaiḥ ॥ 31 ॥
na nirodho na cotpattirna baddho na ca sādhakaḥ ।
na mumukṣurna vai mukta ityeṣā paramārthatā ॥ 32 ॥
prakaraṇārthopasaṁhārārtho'yaṁ ślokaḥ — yadā vitathaṁ dvaitam ātmaivaikaḥ paramārthataḥ san , tadā idaṁ niṣpannaṁ bhavati — sarvo'yaṁ laukiko vaidikaśca vyavahāro'vidyāviṣaya eveti । tadā na nirodhaḥ, nirodhanaṁ nirodhaḥ pralayaḥ, utpattiḥ jananam , baddhaḥ saṁsārī jīvaḥ, sādhakaḥ sādhanavānmokṣasya, mumukṣuḥ mocanārthī, muktaḥ vimuktabandhaḥ । utpattipralayayorabhāvādbaddhādayo na santītyeṣā paramārthatā । kathamutpattipralayayorabhāva iti, ucyate — dvaitasyāsattvāt ।
‘yatra hi dvaitamiva bhavati’ (bṛ. u. 2 । 4 । 14) ‘ya iha nāneva paśyati’ (ka. u. 2 । 1 । 10) ‘ātmaivedaṁ sarvam’ (chā. u. 7 । 25 । 2) ‘brahmaivedaṁ sarvam’
‘ekamevādvitīyam’ (chā. u. 6 । 2 । 1) ‘idaṁ sarvaṁ yadayamātmā’ (bṛ. u. 2 । 4 । 6) ityādinānāśrutibhyo dvaitasyāsattvaṁ siddham । sato hyutpattiḥ pralayo vā syāt , nāsataḥ śaśaviṣāṇādeḥ । nāpyadvaitamutpadyate pralīyate vā । advaitaṁ ca, utpattipralayavacceti vipratiṣiddham । yastu punardvaitasaṁvyavahāraḥ, sa rajjusarpavadātmani prāṇādilakṣaṇaḥ kalpita ityuktam ; na hi manovikalpanāyā rajjusarpādilakṣaṇāyā rajjvāṁ pralaya utpattirvā ; na ca manasi rajjusarpasyotpattiḥ pralayo vā, na cobhayato vā । tathā mānasatvāviśeṣāddvaitasya । na hi niyate manasi suṣupte vā dvaitaṁ gṛhyate ; ato manovikalpanāmātraṁ dvaitamiti siddham । tasmātsūktam — dvaitasyāsattvānnirodhādyabhāvaḥ paramārthateti । yadyevaṁ dvaitābhāve śāstravyāpāraḥ, nādvaite, virodhāt ; tathā ca satyadvaitasya vastutve pramāṇābhāvācchūnyavādaprasaṅgaḥ, dvaitasya cābhāvāt ; na, rajjuvatsarpādikalpanāyā nirāspadatve'nupapattiriti pratyuktametatkathamujjīvayasīti, āha — rajjurapi sarpavikalpasyāspadabhūtā kalpitaiveti dṛṣṭāntānupapattiḥ ; na, vikalpanākṣaye avikalpitasyāvikalpitatvādeva sattvopapatteḥ ; rajjusarpavadasattvamiti cet , na ekāntenāvikalpitatvāt avikalpitarajjvaṁśavatprāksarpābhāvavijñānāt , vikalpayituśca prāgvikalpanotpatteḥ siddhatvābhyupagamādevāsattvānupapattiḥ । kathaṁ punaḥ svarūpe vyāpārābhāve śāstrasya dvaitavijñānanivartakatvam ? naiṣa doṣaḥ, rajjvāṁ sarpādivadātmani dvaitasyāvidyādhyastatvāt kathaṁ sukhyahaṁ duḥkhī mūḍho jāto mṛto jīrṇo dehavān paśyāmi vyaktāvyaktaḥ kartā phalī saṁyukto viyuktaḥ kṣīṇo vṛddho'haṁ mamaite ityevamādayaḥ sarve ātmanyadhyāropyante । ātmā eteṣvanugataḥ, sarvatrāvyabhicārāt , yathā sarpadhārādibhedeṣu rajjuḥ । yadā caivaṁ viśeṣyasvarūpapratyayasya siddhatvānna kartavyatvaṁ śāstreṇa । akṛtakartṛ ca śāstraṁ kṛtānukāritve apramāṇam । yataḥ avidyādhyāropitasukhitvādiviśeṣapratibandhādevātmanaḥ svarūpeṇānavasthānam , svarūpāvasthānaṁ ca śreyaḥ iti sukhitvādinivartakaṁ śāstramātmanyasukhitvādipratyayakaraṇena neti netyasthūlādivākyaiḥ ; ātmasvarūpavadasukhitvādirapi sukhitvādibhedeṣu nānuvṛtto'sti dharmaḥ । yadyanuvṛttaḥ syāt , nādhyāropyeta sukhitvādilakṣaṇo viśeṣaḥ, yathoṣṇatvaguṇaviśeṣavatyagnau śītatā ; tasmānnirviśeṣa evātmani sukhitvādayo viśeṣāḥ kalpitāḥ । yattvasukhitvādiśāstramātmanaḥ, tatsukhitvādiviśeṣanivṛttyarthameveti siddham । ‘siddhaṁ tu nivartakatvāt’ ityāgamavidāṁ sūtram ॥
bhāvairasadbhirevāyamadvayena ca kalpitaḥ ।
bhāvā apyadvayenaiva tasmādadvayatā śivā ॥ 33 ॥
pūrvaślokārthasya hetumāha — yathā rajjvāmasadbhiḥ sarpadhārādibhiḥ advayena ca rajjudravyeṇa satā ayaṁ sarpa iti dhāreyaṁ daṇḍo'yamiti vā rajjudravyameva kalpyate, evaṁ prāṇādibhiranantaiḥ asadbhireva avidyamānaiḥ, na paramārthataḥ । na hyapracalite manasi kaścidbhāva upalakṣayituṁ śakyate kenacit ; na cātmanaḥ pracalanamasti । pracalitasyaivopalabhyamānā bhāvā na paramārthataḥ santaḥ kalpayituṁ śakyāḥ । ataḥ asadbhireva prāṇādibhirbhāvairadvayena ca paramārthasatā ātmanā rajjuvatsarvavikalpāspadabhūtena ayaṁ svayamevātmā kalpitaḥ sadaikasvabhāvo'pi san । te cāpi prāṇādibhāvāḥ advayenaiva satā ātmanā vikalpitāḥ ; na hi nirāspadā kācitkalpanā upapadyate ; ataḥ sarvakalpanāspadatvātsvenātmanā advayasya avyabhicārāt kalpanāvasthāyāmapi advayatā śivā ; kalpanā eva tvaśivāḥ, rajjusarpādivattrāsādikāriṇyo hi tāḥ । advayatā abhayā ; ataḥ saiva śivā ॥
nātmabhāvena nānedaṁ na svenāpi kathañcana ।
na pṛthaṅ nāpṛthakkiñciditi tattvavido viduḥ ॥ 34 ॥
kutaścādvayatā śivā ? nānābhūtaṁ prathaktvam anyasya anyasmāt yatra dṛṣṭam , tatrāśivaṁ bhavet । na hyatrādvaye paramārthasatyātmani prāṇādisaṁsārajātamidaṁ jagat ātmabhāvena paramārthasvarūpeṇa nirūpyamāṇaṁ nānā vastvantarabhūtaṁ bhavati ; yathā rajjusvarūpeṇa prakāśena nirūpyamāṇo na nānābhūtaḥ kalpitaḥ sarpo'sti, tadvat । nāpi svena prāṇādyātmanā idaṁ vidyate kadācidapi, rajjusarpavatkalpitatvādeva । tathā anyonyaṁ na pṛthak prāṇādi vastu, yathā aśvānmahiṣaḥ pṛthagvidyate, evam । ataḥ asattvāt nāpi apṛthak vidyate'nyonyaṁ pareṇa vā kiñciditi । evaṁ paramārthatattvavido brāhmaṇā viduḥ । ataḥ aśivahetutvābhāvādadvayataiva śivetyabhiprāyaḥ ॥
vītarāgabhayakrodhairmunibhirvedapāragaiḥ ।
nirvikalpo hyayaṁ dṛṣṭaḥ prapañcopaśamo'dvayaḥ ॥ 35 ॥
tadetatsamyagdarśanaṁ stūyate — vigatarāgabhayakrodhādisarvadoṣaiḥ sarvadā munibhiḥ mananaśīlairvivekibhiḥ vedapāragaiḥ avagatavedāntārthatattvairjñānibhiḥ nirvikalpaḥ sarvavikalpaśūnyaḥ ayam ātmā dṛṣṭaḥ upalabdho vedāntārthatatparaiḥ, prapañcopaśamaḥ, prapañco dvaitabhedavistāraḥ, tasyopaśamo'bhāvo yasmin , sa ātmā prapañcopaśamaḥ, ata eva advayaḥ vigatadoṣaireva paṇḍitairvedāntārthatatparaiḥ saṁnyāsibhiḥ ayamātmā draṣṭuṁ śakyaḥ, nānyaiḥ rāgādikaluṣitacetobhiḥ svapakṣapātidarśanaistārkikādibhirityabhiprāyaḥ ॥
tasmādevaṁ viditvainamadvaite yojayetsmṛtim ।
advaitaṁ samanuprāpya jaḍavallokamācaret ॥ 36 ॥
yasmātsarvānarthopaśamarūpatvādadvayaṁ śivamabhayam , ataḥ evaṁ viditvainam advaite smṛtiṁ yojayet ; advaitāvagamāyaiva smṛtiṁ kuryādityarthaḥ । tacca advaitam avagamya ‘ahamasmi paraṁ brahma’ iti viditvā aśanāyādyatītaṁ sākṣādaparokṣādajamātmānaṁ sarvalokavyavahārātītaṁ jaḍavat lokamācaret ; aprakhyāpayannātmānamahamevaṁvidha ityabhiprāyaḥ ॥
niḥstutirnirnamaskāro niḥsvadhākāra eva ca ।
calācalaniketaśca yatiryādṛcchiko bhavet ॥ 37 ॥
kayā caryayā lokamācarediti, āha — stutinamaskārādisarvakarmavivarjitaḥ tyaktasarvabāhyaiṣaṇaḥ pratipannaparamahaṁsapārivrājya ityabhiprāyaḥ,
‘etaṁ vai tamātmānaṁ viditvā’ (bṛ. u. 3 । 5 । 1) ityādiśruteḥ,
‘tadbuddhayastadātmānastanniṣṭhāstatparāyaṇāḥ’ (bha. gī. 5 । 17) ityādismṛteśca । calaṁ śarīram , pratikṣaṇamanyathābhāvāt ; acalam ātmatattvam । yadā kadācidbhojanādisaṁvyavahāranimittamākāśavadacalaṁ svarūpamātmatattvam ātmano niketamāśrayamātmasthitiṁ vismṛtya ahamiti manyate yadā, tadā calo deho niketo yasya so'yamevaṁ calācalaniketo vidvānna punarbāhyaviṣayāśrayaḥ । sa ca yādṛcchiko bhavet , yadṛcchāprāptakaupīnācchādanagrāsamātradehasthitirityarthaḥ ॥
tattvamādhyātmikaṁ dṛṣṭvā tattvaṁ dṛṣṭvā tu bāhyataḥ ।
tattvībhūtastadārāmastattvādapracyuto bhavet ॥ 38 ॥
bāhyaṁ pṛthivyādi tattvamādhyātmikaṁ ca dehādilakṣaṇaṁ rajjusarpādivatsvapnamāyādivacca asat ,
‘vācārambhaṇaṁ vikāro nāmadheyam’ (chā. u. 6 । 1 । 4) ityādiśruteḥ । ātmā ca sabāhyābhyantaro hyajo'pūrvo'naparo'nantaro'bāhyaḥ kṛtsnaḥ tathā ākāśavatsarvagataḥ sūkṣmo'calo nirguṇo niṣkalo niṣkriyaḥ
‘tatsatyaṁ sa ātmā tattvamasi’ (chā. u. 6 । 8 । 7) iti śruteḥ, ityevaṁ tattvaṁ dṛṣṭvā tattvībhūtastadārāmo na bāhyaramaṇaḥ ; yathā atattvadarśī kaścittamātmatvena pratipannaścittacalanamanu calitamātmānaṁ manyamānaḥ tattvāccalitaṁ dehādibhūtamātmānaṁ kadācinmanyate pracyuto'hamātmatattvādidānīmiti, samāhite tu manasi kadācittattvabhūtaṁ prasannamātmānaṁ manyate idānīmasmi tattvībhūta iti ; na tathā ātmavidbhavet , ātmana ekarūpatvāt , svarūpapracyavanāsambhavācca । sadaiva brahmāsmītyapracyuto bhavettattvāt , sadā apracyutātmatattvadarśano bhavedityabhiprāyaḥ ;
‘śuni caiva śvapāke ca’ (bha. gī. 5 । 18) ‘samaṁ sarveṣu bhūteṣu’ (bha. gī. 13 । 27) ityādismṛteḥ ॥
iti dvitīyaṁ vaitathyaprakaraṇaṁ sampūrṇam ॥
upāsanāśrito dharmo jāte brahmaṇi vartate ।
prāgutpatterajaṁ sarvaṁ tenāsau kṛpaṇaḥ smṛtaḥ ॥ 1 ॥
oṅkāranirṇaye uktaḥ prapañcopaśamaḥ śivo'dvaita ātmeti pratijñāmātreṇa,
‘jñāte dvaitaṁ na vidyate’ (mā. kā. 1 । 18) iti ca । tatra dvaitābhāvastu vaitathyaprakaraṇena svapnamāyāgandharvanagarādidṛṣṭāntairdṛśyatvādyantavattvādihetubhistarkeṇa ca pratipāditaḥ । advaitaṁ kimāgamamātreṇa pratipattavyam , āhosvittarkeṇāpītyata āha — śakyate tarkeṇāpi jñātum ; tatkathamityadvaitaprakaraṇamārabhyate । upāsyopāsanādibhedajātaṁ sarvaṁ vitatham , kevalaścātmā advayaḥ paramārtha iti sthitamatīte prakaraṇe ; yataḥ upāsanāśritaḥ upāsanāmātmano mokṣasādhanatvena gataḥ upāsako'haṁ mamopāsyaṁ brahma । tadupāsanaṁ kṛtvā jāte brahmaṇīdānīṁ vartamānaḥ ajaṁ brahma śarīrapātādūrdhvaṁ pratipatsye prāgutpatteścājamidaṁ sarvamahaṁ ca । yadātmako'haṁ prāgutpatteridānīṁ jāto jāte brahmaṇi ca vartamāna upāsanayā punastadeva pratipatsye ityevamupāsanāśrito dharmaḥ sādhakaḥ yenaivaṁ kṣudrabrahmavit , tenāsau kāraṇena kṛpaṇo dīno'lpakaḥ smṛto nityājabrahmadarśibhirmahātmabhirityabhiprāyaḥ,
‘yadvācānabhyuditaṁ yena vāgabhyudyate । tadeva brahma tvaṁ viddhi nedaṁ yadidamupāsate’ (ke. u. 1 । 5) ityādiśrutestalavakārāṇām ॥
ato vakṣyāmyakārpaṇyamajāti samatāṁ gatam ।
yathā na jāyate kiñcijjāyamānaṁ samantataḥ ॥ 2 ॥
sabāhyābhyantaramajamātmānaṁ pratipattumaśaknuvan avidyayā dīnamātmānaṁ manyamānaḥ jāto'haṁ jāte brahmaṇi varte tadupāsanāśritaḥ sanbrahma pratipatsye ityevaṁ pratipannaḥ kṛpaṇo bhavati yasmāt , ato vakṣyāmi akārpaṇyam akṛpaṇabhāvamajaṁ brahma । taddhi kārpaṇyāspadam ,
‘yatrānyo'nyatpaśyatyanyacchṛṇotyanyadvijānāti tadalpam’ (chā. u. 7 । 24 । 1) ‘martyaṁ tat’
‘vācārambhaṇaṁ vikāro nāmadheyam’ (chā. u. 6 । 1 । 4) ityādiśrutibhyaḥ । tadviparītaṁ sabāhyābhyantaramajamakārpaṇyaṁ bhūmākhyaṁ brahma ; yatprāpyāvidyākṛtasarvakārpaṇyanivṛttiḥ, tadakārpaṇyaṁ vakṣyāmītyarthaḥ । tat ajāti avidyamānā jātirasya । samatāṁ gataṁ sarvasāmyaṁ gatam ; kasmāt ? avayavavaiṣamyābhāvāt । yaddhi sāvayavaṁ vastu, tadavayavavaiṣamyaṁ gacchajjāyata ityucyate ; idaṁ tu niravayavatvātsamatāṁ gatamiti na kaiścidavayavaiḥ sphuṭati ; ataḥ ajāti akārpaṇyaṁ samantataḥ samantāt , yathā na jāyate kiñcit alpamapi na sphuṭati rajjusarpavadavidyākṛtadṛṣṭyā jāyamānaṁ yena prakāreṇa na jāyate sarvataḥ ajameva brahma bhavati, tathā taṁ prakāraṁ śṛṇvityarthaḥ ॥
ātmā hyākāśavajjīvairghaṭākāśairivoditaḥ ।
ghaṭādivacca saṅghātairjātāvetannidarśanam ॥ 3 ॥
ajāti brahmākārpaṇyaṁ vakṣyāmīti pratijñātam ; tatsiddhyarthaṁ hetuṁ dṛṣṭāntaṁ ca vakṣyāmītyāha — ātmā paraḥ hi yasmāt ākāśavat sūkṣmo niravayavaḥ sarvagata ākāśavaduktaḥ jīvaiḥ kṣetrajñaiḥ ghaṭākāśairiva ghaṭākāśatulyaiḥ uditaḥ uktaḥ ; sa eva ākāśasamaḥ para ātmā । athavā ghaṭākāśairyathā ākāśa uditaḥ utpannaḥ, tathā paro jīvātmabhirutpannaḥ ; jīvātmanāṁ parasmādātmana utpattiryā śrūyate vedānteṣu, sā mahākāśādghaṭākāśotpattisamā, na paramārthata ityabhiprāyaḥ । tasmādevākāśādghaṭādayaḥ saṅghātā yathā utpadyante, evamākāśasthānīyātparamātmanaḥ pṛthivyādibhūtasaṅghātā ādhyātmikāśca kāryakaraṇalakṣaṇā rajjusarpavadvikalpitā jāyante ; ata ucyate — ghaṭādivacca saṅghātairudita iti । yadā mandabuddhipratipipādayiṣayā śrutyā ātmano jātirucyate jīvādīnām , tadā jātāvupagamyamānāyām etat nidarśanaṁ dṛṣṭāntaḥ yathoditākāśavadityādiḥ ॥
ghaṭādiṣu pralīneṣu ghaṭākāśādayo yathā ।
ākāśe sampralīyante tadvajjīvā ihātmani ॥ 4 ॥
yathā ghaṭādyutpattyā ghaṭākāśādyutpattiḥ, yathā ca ghaṭādipralayena ghaṭākāśādipralayaḥ, tadvaddehādisaṅghātotpattyā jīvotpattiḥ tatpralayena ca jīvānām iha ātmani pralayaḥ, na svata ityarthaḥ ॥
yathaikasminghaṭākāśe rajodhūmādibhiryute ।
na sarve samprayujyante tadvajjīvāḥ sukhādibhiḥ ॥ 5 ॥
sarvadeheṣvātmaikatve ekasmin jananamaraṇasukhaduḥkhādimatyātmani sarvātmanāṁ tatsambandhaḥ kriyāphalasāṅkaryaṁ ca syāditi ye tvāhurdvaitinaḥ, tānpratīdamucyate — yathā ekasmin ghaṭākāśe rajodhūmādibhiḥ yute saṁyukte, na sarve ghaṭākāśādayaḥ tadrajodhūmādibhiḥ saṁyujyante, tadvat jīvāḥ sukhādibhiḥ । nanu, eka evātmā ; bāḍham ; nanu na śrutaṁ tvayā ākāśavatsarvasaṅghāteṣveka evātmeti ? yadyeka evātmā, tarhi sarvatra sukhī duḥkhī ca syāt ; na cedaṁ sāṅkhyasya codyaṁ sambhavati ; na hi sāṅkhya ātmanaḥ sukhaduḥkhādimattvamicchati, buddhisamavāyābhyupagamātsukhaduḥkhādīnām ; na copalabdhisvarūpasyātmano bhedakalpanāyāṁ pramāṇamasti । bhedābhāve pradhānasya pārārthyānupapattiriti cet , na ; pradhānakṛtasyārthasyātmanyasamavāyāt ; yadi hi pradhānakṛto bandho mokṣo vā arthaḥ puruṣeṣu bhedena samavaiti, tataḥ pradhānasya pārārthyamātmaikatve nopapadyata iti yuktā puruṣabhedakalpanā ; na ca sāṅkhyairbandho mokṣo vārthaḥ puruṣasamaveto'bhyupagamyate, nirviśeṣāśca cetanamātrā ātmāno'bhyupagamyante ; ataḥ puruṣasattāmātraprayuktameva pradhānasya pārārthyaṁ siddham , na tu puruṣabhedaprayuktamiti ; ataḥ puruṣabhedakalpanāyāṁ na pradhānasya pārārthyaṁ hetuḥ ; na cānyatpuruṣabhedakalpanāyāṁ pramāṇamasti sāṅkhyānām । parasattāmātrameva caitannimittīkṛtya svayaṁ badhyate mucyate ca pradhānam ; paraścopalabdhimātrasattāsvarūpeṇa pradhānapravṛttau hetuḥ, na kenacidviśeṣeṇeti, kevalamūḍhatayaiva puruṣabhedakalpanā vedārthaparityāgaśca । ye tvāhurvaiśeṣikādayaḥ icchādaya ātmasamavāyina iti ; tadapyasat , smṛtihetūnāṁ saṁskārāṇāmapradeśavatyātmanyasamavāyāt , ātmamanaḥsaṁyogācca smṛtyutpatteḥ smṛtiniyamānupapattiḥ, yugapadvā sarvasmṛtyutpattiprasaṅgaḥ । na ca bhinnajātīyānāṁ sparśādihīnānāmātmanāṁ manaādibhiḥ sambandho yuktaḥ । na ca dravyādrūpādayo guṇāḥ karmasāmānyaviśeṣasamavāyā vā bhinnāḥ santi । pareṣāṁ yadi hyatyantabhinnā eva dravyātsyuḥ icchādayaścātmanaḥ, tathā sati dravyeṇa teṣāṁ sambandhānupapattiḥ । ayutasiddhānāṁ samavāyalakṣaṇaḥ sambandho na virudhyata iti cet , na ; icchādibhyo'nityebhya ātmano nityasya pūrvasiddhatvānnāyutasiddhatvopapattiḥ । ātmanā ayutasiddhatve ca icchādīnāmātmagatamahattvavannityatvaprasaṅgaḥ । sa cāniṣṭaḥ, ātmano'nirmokṣaprasaṅgāt । samavāyasya ca dravyādanyatve sati dravyeṇa sambandhāntaraṁ vācyam , yathā dravyaguṇayoḥ । samavāyo nityasambandha eveti na vācyamiti cet , tathā sati samavāyasambandhavatāṁ nityasambandhaprasaṅgātpṛthaktvānupapattiḥ । atyantapṛthaktve ca dravyādīnāṁ sparśavadasparśadravyayoriva ṣaṣṭhyarthānupapattiḥ । icchādyupajanāpāyavadguṇavattve ca ātmano'nityatvaprasaṅgaḥ । dehaphalādivatsāvayavatvaṁ vikriyāvattvaṁ ca dehādivadeveti doṣāvaparihāryau । yathā tvākāśasya avidyādhyāropitaghaṭādyupādhikṛtarajodhūmamalavattvādidoṣavattvam , tathā ātmanaḥ avidyādhyāropitabuddhyādyupādhikṛtasukhaduḥkhādidoṣavattve bandhamokṣādayo vyāvahārikā na virudhyante ; sarvavādibhiravidyākṛtavyavahārābhyupagamāt paramārthānabhyupagamācca । tasmādātmabhedaparikalpanā vṛthaiva tārkikaiḥ kriyata iti ॥
rūpakāryasamākhyāśca bhidyante tatra tatra vai ।
ākāśasya na bhedo'sti tadvajjīveṣu nirṇayaḥ ॥ 6 ॥
kathaṁ punarātmabhedanimitta iva vyavahāra ekasminnātmanyavidyākṛta upapadyata iti, ucyate । yathā ihākāśe ekasminghaṭakarakāpavarakādyākāśānāmalpatvamahattvādirūpāṇi bhidyante, tathā kāryamudakāharaṇadhāraṇaśayanādi, samākhyāśca ghaṭākāśaḥ karakākāśa ityādyāḥ tatkṛtāśca bhinnā dṛśyante, tatra tatra vai vyavahāraviṣaye ityarthaḥ । sarvo'yamākāśe rūpādibhedakṛto vyavahāraḥ aparamārtha eva । paramārthatastvākāśasya na bhedo'sti । na cākāśabhedanimitto vyavahāro'sti antareṇa paropādhikṛtaṁ dvāram । yathaitat , tadvaddehopādhibhedakṛteṣu jīveṣu ghaṭākāśasthānīyeṣvātmasu nirūpaṇātkṛtaḥ buddhimadbhiḥ nirṇayaḥ niścaya ityarthaḥ ॥
nākāśasya ghaṭākāśo vikārāvayavau yathā ।
naivātmanaḥ sadā jīvo vikārāvayavau tathā ॥ 7 ॥
nanu tatra paramārthakṛta eva ghaṭākāśādiṣu rūpakāryādibhedavyavahāra iti ; naitadasti, yasmātparamārthākāśasya ghaṭākāśo na vikāraḥ, yathā suvarṇasya rucakādiḥ, yathā vā apāṁ phenabudbudahimādiḥ ; nāpyavayavaḥ, yathā vṛkṣasya śākhādiḥ । na tathā ākāśasya ghaṭākāśo vikārāvayavau yathā, tathā naivātmanaḥ parasya paramārthasato mahākāśasthānīyasya ghaṭākāśasthānīyo jīvaḥ sadā sarvadā yathoktadṛṣṭāntavanna vikāraḥ, nāpyavayavaḥ । ata ātmabhedakṛto vyavahāro mṛṣaivetyarthaḥ ॥
yathā bhavati bālānāṁ gaganaṁ malinaṁ malaiḥ ।
tathā bhavatyabuddhānāmātmāpi malino malaiḥ ॥ 8 ॥
yasmādyathā ghaṭākāśādibhedabuddhinibandhano rūpakāryādibhedavyavahāraḥ, tathā dehopādhijīvabhedakṛto janmamaraṇādivyavahāraḥ, tasmāttatkṛtameva kleśakarmaphalamalavattvamātmanaḥ, na paramārthata ityetamarthaṁ dṛṣṭāntena pratipipādayiṣannāha — yathā bhavati loke bālānām avivekināṁ gaganam ākāśaṁ ghanarajodhūmādimalaiḥ malinaṁ malavat , na gaganayāthātmyavivekavatām , tathā bhavati ātmā paro'pi — yo vijñātā pratyak — kleśakarmaphalamalairmalinaḥ abuddhānāṁ pratyagātmavivekarahitānām , nātmavivekavatām । na hyūṣaradeśaḥ tṛḍvatprāṇyadhyāropitodakaphenataraṅgādimān , tathā nātmā abudhāropitakleśādimalaiḥ malino bhavatītyarthaḥ ॥
maraṇe sambhave caiva gatyāgamanayorapi ।
sthitau sarvaśarīreṣu cākāśenāvilakṣaṇaḥ ॥ 9 ॥
punarapyuktamevārthaṁ prapañcayati — ghaṭākāśajanmanāśagamanāgamanasthitivatsarvaśarīreṣvātmano janmamaraṇādirākāśenāvilakṣaṇaḥ pratyetavya ityarthaḥ ॥
saṅghātāḥ svapnavatsarva ātmamāyāvisarjitāḥ ।
ādhikye sarvasāmye vā nopapattirhi vidyate ॥ 10 ॥
ghaṭādisthānīyāstu dehādisaṅghātāḥ svapnadṛśyadehādivanmāyāvikṛtadehādivacca ātmamāyāvisarjitāḥ, ātmano māyā avidyā, tayā pratyupasthāpitāḥ, na paramārthataḥ santītyarthaḥ । yadi ādhikyamadhikabhāvaḥ tiryagdehādyapekṣayā devādikāryakaraṇasaṅghātānām , yadi vā sarveṣāṁ samataiva, teṣāṁ na hyupapattisambhavaḥ, sambhavapratipādako hetuḥ na vidyate nāsti ; hi yasmāt , tasmādavidyākṛtā eva, na paramārthataḥ santītyarthaḥ ॥
rasādayo hi ye kośā vyākhyātāstaittirīyake ।
teṣāmātmā paro jīvaḥ khaṁ yathā samprakāśitaḥ ॥ 11 ॥
utpattyādivarjitasyādvayasyāsyātmatattvasya śrutipramāṇakatvapradarśanārthaṁ vākyānyupanyasyante — rasādayaḥ annarasamayaḥ prāṇamaya ityevamādayaḥ kośā iva kośāḥ asyādeḥ, uttarottarāpekṣayā bahirbhāvātpūrvapūrvasya vyākhyātāḥ vispaṣṭamākhyātāḥ taittirīyake taittirīyakaśākhopaniṣadvallyām , teṣāṁ kośānāmātmā yenātmanā pañcāpi kośā ātmavanto'ntaratamena । sa hi sarveṣāṁ jīvananimittatvājjīvaḥ । ko'sāvityāha — para evātmā yaḥ pūrvam
‘satyaṁ jñānamanantaṁ brahma’ (tai. u. 2 । 1 । 1) iti prakṛtaḥ ; yasmādātmanaḥ svapnamāyādivadākāśādikrameṇa rasādayaḥ kośalakṣaṇāḥ saṅghātā ātmamāyāvisarjitā ityuktam । sa ātmā asmābhiḥ yathā khaṁ tatheti samprakāśitaḥ,
‘ātmā hyākāśavat’ (mā. kā. 3 । 3) ityādiślokaiḥ । na tārkikaparikalpitātmavatpuruṣabuddhipramāṇagamya ityabhiprāyaḥ ॥
dvayordvayormadhujñāne paraṁ brahma prakāśitam ।
pṛthivyāmudare caiva yathākāśaḥ prakāśitaḥ ॥ 12 ॥
kiñca, adhidaivatamadhyātmaṁ ca tejomayo'mṛtamayaḥ puruṣaḥ pṛthivyādyantargato yo vijñātā para evātmā brahma sarvamiti dvayordvayoḥ ā dvaitakṣayāt paraṁ brahma prakāśitam ; kvetyāha — brahmavidyākhyaṁ madhu amṛtam , amṛtatvaṁ modanahetutvāt , tadvijñāyate yasminniti madhujñānaṁ madhubrāhmaṇam , tasminnityarthaḥ । kimivetyāha — pṛthivyām udare caiva yathā eka ākāśaḥ anumānena prakāśitaḥ loke, tadvadityarthaḥ ॥
jīvātmanorananyatvamabhedena praśasyate ।
nānātvaṁ nindyate yacca tadevaṁ hi samañjasam ॥ 13 ॥
jīvātmanoḥ pṛthaktvaṁ yatprāgutpatteḥ prakīrtitam ।
bhaviṣyadvṛttyā gauṇaṁ tanmukhyatvaṁ hi na yujyate ॥ 14 ॥
mṛllohavisphuliṅgādyaiḥ sṛṣṭiryā coditānyathā ।
upāyaḥ so'vatārāya nāsti bhedaḥ kathañcana ॥ 15 ॥
nanu yadyutpatteḥ prāgajaṁ sarvamekamevādvitīyam , tathāpi utpatterūrdhvaṁ jātamidaṁ sarvaṁ jīvāśca bhinnā iti । maivam , anyārthatvādutpattiśrutīnām । pūrvamapi parihṛta evāyaṁ doṣaḥ — svapnavadātmamāyāvisarjitāḥ saṅghātāḥ, ghaṭākāśotpattibhedādivajjīvānāmutpattibhedādiriti । ita eva utpattibhedādiśrutibhya ākṛṣya iha punarutpattiśrutīnāmaidamparyapratipipādayiṣayopanyāsaḥ mṛllohavisphuliṅgādidṛṣṭāntopanyāsaiḥ sṛṣṭiḥ yā ca uditā prakāśitā kalpitā anyathānyathā ca, sa sarvaḥ sṛṣṭiprakāro jīvaparamātmaikatvabuddhyavatārāyopāyo'smākam , yathā prāṇasaṁvāde vāgādyāsurapāpmavedhādyākhyāyikā kalpitā prāṇavaiśiṣṭyabodhāvatārāya ; tadapyasiddhamiti cet ; na, śākhābhedeṣvanyathānyathā ca prāṇādisaṁvādaśravaṇāt । yadi hi vādaḥ paramārtha evābhūt , ekarūpa eva saṁvādaḥ sarvaśākhāsvaśroṣyata, viruddhānekaprakāreṇa nāśroṣyata ; śrūyate tu ; tasmānna tādarthyaṁ saṁvādaśrutīnām । tathotpattivākyāni pratyetavyāni । kalpasargabhedātsaṁvādaśrutīnāmutpattiśrutīnāṁ ca pratisargamanyathātvamiti cet ; na, niṣprayojanatvādyathoktabuddhyavatāraprayojanavyatirekeṇa । na hyanyaprayojanavattvaṁ saṁvādotpattiśrutīnāṁ śakyaṁ kalpayitum । tathātvaprattipattaye dhyānārthamiti cet ; na, kalahotpattipralayānāṁ pratipatteraniṣṭatvāt । tasmādutpattyādiśrutaya ātmaikatvabuddhyavatārāyaiva, nānyārthāḥ kalpayituṁ yuktāḥ । ato nāstyutpattyādikṛto bhedaḥ kathañcana ॥
āśramāstrividhā hīnamadhyamotkṛṣṭadṛṣṭayaḥ ।
upāsanopadiṣṭeyaṁ tadarthamanukampayā ॥ 16 ॥
svasiddhāntavyavasthāsu dvaitino niścitā dṛḍham ।
parasparaṁ virudhyante tairayaṁ na virudhyate ॥ 17 ॥
śāstropapattibhyāmavadhāritatvādadvayātmadarśanaṁ samyagdarśanam , tadbāhyatvānmithyādarśanamanyat । itaśca mithyādarśanaṁ dvaitināṁ rāgadveṣādidoṣāspadatvāt । katham ? svasiddhāntavyavasthāsu svasiddhāntaracanāniyameṣu kapilakaṇādabuddhārhatādidṛṣṭyanusāriṇo dvaitino niścitāḥ, evamevaiṣa paramārtho nānyatheti, tatra tatrānuraktāḥ pratipakṣaṁ cātmanaḥ paśyantastaṁ dviṣanta ityevaṁ rāgadveṣopetāḥ svasiddhāntadarśananimittameva parasparam anyonyaṁ virudhyante । tairanyonyavirodhibhirasmadīyo'yaṁ vaidikaḥ sarvānanyatvādātmaikatvadarśanapakṣo na virudhyate, yathā svahastapādādibhiḥ । evaṁ rāgadveṣādidoṣānāspadatvādātmaikatvabuddhireva samyagdarśanamityabhiprāyaḥ ॥
advaitaṁ paramārtho hi dvaitaṁ tadbheda ucyate ।
teṣāmubhayathā dvaitaṁ tenāyaṁ na virudhyate ॥ 18 ॥
kena hetunā tairna virudhyata ityucyate — advaitaṁ paramārthaḥ, hi yasmāt dvaitaṁ nānātvaṁ tasyādvaitasya bhedaḥ tadbhedaḥ, tasya kāryamityarthaḥ,
‘ekamevādvitīyam’ (chā. u. 6 । 2 । 1) ‘tattejo'sṛjata’ (chā. u. 6 । 2 । 3) iti śruteḥ ; upapatteśca, svacittaspandanābhāve samādhau mūrchāyāṁ suṣuptau vā abhāvāt । ataḥ tadbheda ucyate dvaitam । dvaitināṁ tu teṣāṁ paramārthato'paramārthataśca ubhayathāpi dvaitameva ; yadi ca teṣāṁ bhrāntānāṁ dvaitadṛṣṭiḥ asmākamadvaitadṛṣṭirabhrāntānām , tenāyaṁ hetunā asmatpakṣo na virudhyate taiḥ,
‘indro māyābhiḥ’ (bṛ. u. 2 । 5 । 19) ‘na tu taddvitīyamasti’ (bṛ. u. 4 । 3 । 23) iti śruteḥ । yathā mattagajārūḍhaḥ unmattaṁ bhūmiṣṭham ‘pratigajārūḍho'haṁ gajaṁ vāhaya māṁ prati’ iti bruvāṇamapi taṁ prati na vāhayatyavirodhabuddhyā, tadvat । tataḥ paramārthato brahmavidātmaiva dvaitinām । tenāyaṁ hetunā asmatpakṣo na virudhyate taiḥ ॥
māyayā bhidyate hyetannānyathājaṁ kathañcana ।
tattvato bhidyamāne hi martyatāmamṛtaṁ vrajet ॥ 19 ॥
dvaitamadvaitabheda ityukte dvaitamapyadvaitavatparamārthasaditi syātkasyacidāśaṅketyata āha — yatparamārthasadadvaitam , māyayā bhidyate hyetat taimirikānekacandravat rajjuḥ sarpadhārādibhirbhedairiva ; na paramārthataḥ, niravayavatvādātmanaḥ । sāvayavaṁ hyavayavānyathātvena bhidyate, yathā mṛt ghaṭādibhedaiḥ । tasmānniravayavamajaṁ nānyathā kathañcana, kenacidapi prakāreṇa na bhidyata ityabhiprāyaḥ । tattvato bhidyamānaṁ hi amṛtamajamadvayaṁ svabhāvataḥ sat martyatāṁ vrajet , yathā agniḥ śītatām । taccāniṣṭaṁ svabhāvavaiparītyagamanam , sarvapramāṇavirodhāt । ajamadvayamātmatattvaṁ māyayaiva bhidyate, na paramārthataḥ । tasmānna paramārthasaddvaitam ॥
ajātasyaiva bhāvasya jātimicchanti vādinaḥ ।
ajāto hyamṛto bhāvo martyatāṁ kathameṣyati ॥ 20 ॥
ye tu punaḥ kecidupaniṣadvyākhyātāro brahmavādino vāvadūkāḥ ajātasyaiva ātmatattvasyāmṛtasya svabhāvato jātim utpattim icchanti paramārthata eva, teṣāṁ jātaṁ cet , tadeva martyatāmeṣyatyavaśyam । sa ca ajāto hyamṛto bhāvaḥ svabhāvataḥ sannātmā kathaṁ martyatāmeṣyati ? na kathañcana martyatvaṁ svabhāvavaiparītyameṣyatītyarthaḥ ॥
na bhavatyamṛtaṁ martyaṁ na martyamamṛtaṁ tathā ।
prakṛteranyathābhāvo na kathañcidbhaviṣyati ॥ 21 ॥
yasmānna bhavati amṛtaṁ martyaṁ loke nāpi martyamamṛtaṁ tathā, tataḥ prakṛteḥ svabhāvasya anyathābhāvaḥ svataḥ pracyutiḥ na kathañcidbhaviṣyati, agnerivauṣṇyasya ॥
svabhāvenāmṛto yasya bhāvo gacchati martyatām ।
kṛtakenāmṛtastasya kathaṁ sthāsyati niścalaḥ ॥ 22 ॥
yasya punarvādinaḥ svabhāvena amṛto bhāvaḥ martyatāṁ gacchati paramārthato jāyate, tasya prāgutpatteḥ sa bhāvaḥ svabhāvato'mṛta iti pratijñā mṛṣaiva । kathaṁ tarhi ? kṛtakenāmṛtaḥ tasya svabhāvaḥ । kṛtakenāmṛtaḥ sa kathaṁ sthāsyati niścalaḥ ? amṛtasvabhāvatayā na kathañcitsthāsyati । ātmajātivādinaḥ sarvathā ajaṁ nāma nāstyeva । sarvametanmartyam ; ataḥ anirmokṣaprasaṅga ityabhiprāyaḥ ॥
bhūtato'bhūtato vāpi sṛjyamāne samā śrutiḥ ।
niścitaṁ yuktiyuktaṁ ca yattadbhavati netarat ॥ 23 ॥
nanvajātivādinaḥ sṛṣṭipratipādikā śrutirna saṅgacchate । bāḍham ; vidyate sṛṣṭipratipādikā śrutiḥ ; sā tvanyaparā,
‘upāyaḥ so'vatāraya’ (mā. kā. 3 । 15) ityavocāma । idānīmukte'pi parihāre punaścodyaparihārau vivakṣitārthaṁ prati sṛṣṭiśrutyakṣarāṇāmānulomyavirodhaśaṅkāmātraparihārārthau । bhūtataḥ paramārthataḥ sṛjyamāne vastuni, abhūtataḥ māyayā vā māyāvineva sṛjyamāne vastuni samā tulyā sṛṣṭiśrutiḥ । nanu gauṇamukhyayormukhye śabdārthapratipattiryuktā ; na, anyathāsṛṣṭeraprasiddhatvānniṣprayojanatvācca ityavocāma । avidyāsṛṣṭiviṣayaiva sarvā gauṇī mukhyā ca sṛṣṭiḥ, na paramārthataḥ,
‘sabāhyābhyantaro hyajaḥ’ (mu. u. 2 । 1 । 2) iti śruteḥ । tasmāt śrutyā niścitaṁ yat ekamevādvitīyamajamamṛtamiti, yuktiyuktaṁ ca yuktyā ca sampannam , tadevetyavocāma pūrvairgranthaiḥ ; tadeva śrutyartho bhavati, netaratkadācidapi kvacidapi ॥
neha nāneti cāmnāyādindro māyābhirityapi ।
ajāyamāno bahudhā jāyate māyayā tu saḥ ॥ 24 ॥
kathaṁ śrutiniścaya ityāha — yadi hi bhūtata eva sṛṣṭiḥ syāt , tataḥ satyameva nānāvastviti tadabhāvapradarśanārtha āmnāyo na syāt ; asti ca
‘neha nānāsti kiñcana’ (ka. u. 2 । 1 । 11) ityāmnāyo dvaitabhāvapratiṣedhārthaḥ ; tasmādātmaikatvapratipattyarthā kalpitā sṛṣṭirabhūtaiva prāṇasaṁvādavat ।
‘indro māyābhiḥ’ (bṛ. u. 2 । 5 । 19) ityabhūtārthapratipādakena māyāśabdena vyapadeśāt । nanu prajñāvacano māyāśabdaḥ ; satyam , indriyaprajñāyā avidyāmayatvena māyātvābhyupagamādadoṣaḥ । māyābhiḥ indriyaprajñābhiravidyārūpābhirityarthaḥ ।
‘ajāyamāno bahudhā vijāyate’ (tai. ā. 3 । 13) iti śruteḥ । tasmāt jāyate māyayā tu saḥ ; tu —śabdo'vadhāraṇārthaḥ māyayaiveti । na hyajāyamānatvaṁ bahudhājanma ca ekatra sambhavati, agnāviva śaityamauṣṇyaṁ ca । phalavattvāccātmaikatvadarśanameva śrutiniścito'rthaḥ,
‘tatra ko mohaḥ kaḥ śoka ekatvamanupaśyataḥ’ (ī. u. 7) ityādimantravarṇāt
‘mṛtyoḥ sa mṛtyumāpnoti’ (ka. u. 2 । 4 । 10) iti ninditatvācca sṛṣṭyādibhedadṛṣṭeḥ ॥
sambhūterapavādācca sambhavaḥ pratiṣidhyate ।
ko nvenaṁ janayediti kāraṇaṁ pratiṣidhyate ॥ 25 ॥
‘andhaṁ tamaḥ praviśanti ye sambhūtimupāsate’ (ī. mā. 9) iti sambhūterupāsyatvāpavādātsambhavaḥ pratiṣidhyate ; na hi paramārthasadbhūtāyāṁ sambhūtau tadapavāda upapadyate । nanu vināśena sambhūteḥ samuccayavidhānārthaḥ sambhūtyapavādaḥ, yathā
‘andhaṁ tamaḥ praviśanti ye'vidyāmupāsate’ (ī. mā. 12) iti । satyameva, devatādarśanasya sambhūtiviṣayasya vināśaśabdavācyasya ca karmaṇaḥ samuccayavidhānārthaḥ sambhūtyapavādaḥ ; tathāpi vināśākhyasya karmaṇaḥ svābhāvikājñānapravṛttirūpasya mṛtyoratitaraṇārthatvavat devatādarśanakarmasamuccayasya puruṣasaṁskārārthasya karmaphalarāgapravṛttirūpasya sādhyasādhanaiṣaṇādvayalakṣaṇasya mṛtyoratitaraṇārthatvam । evaṁ hyeṣaṇādvayarūpānmṛtyoraśuddherviyuktaḥ puruṣaḥ saṁskṛtaḥ syāt । ato mṛtyoratitaraṇārthā devatādarśanakarmasamuccayalakṣaṇā hyavidyā । evameva eṣaṇādvayalakṣaṇāvidyāyā mṛtyoratitīrṇasya viraktasyopaniṣacchāstrārthālocanaparasya nāntarīyikā paramātmaikatvavidyotpattiriti pūrvabhāvinīmavidyāmapekṣya paścādbhāvinī brahmavidyā amṛtatvasādhanā ekena puruṣeṇa sambadhyamānā avidyayā samuccīyata ityucyate । ataḥ anyārthatvādamṛtatvasādhanaṁ brahmavidyāmapekṣya, nindārtha eva bhavati sambhūtyapavādaḥ yadyapyaśuddhiviyogahetuḥ atanniṣṭhatvāt । ata eva sambhūterapavādātsambhūterāpekṣikameva sattvamiti paramārthasadātmaikatvamapekṣya amṛtākhyaḥ sambhavaḥ pratiṣidhyate । evaṁ māyānirmitasyaiva jīvasya avidyayā pratyupasthāpitasya avidyānāśe svabhāvarūpatvātparamārthataḥ ko nvenaṁ janayet ? na hi rajjvāmavidyādhyāropitaṁ sarpaṁ punarvivekato naṣṭaṁ janayetkaścit ; tathā na kaścidenaṁ janayediti । ko nvityākṣepārthatvātkāraṇaṁ pratiṣidhyate । avidyodbhūtasya naṣṭasya janayitṛ kāraṇaṁ na kiñcidastītyabhiprāyaḥ ;
‘nāyaṁ kutaścinna babhūva kaścit’ (ka. u. 1 । 2 । 18) iti śruteḥ ॥
sa eṣa neti netīti vyākhyātaṁ nihnute yataḥ ।
sarvamagrāhyabhāvena hetunājaṁ prakāśate ॥ 26 ॥
sarvaviśeṣapratiṣedhena
‘athāta ādeśo neti neti’ (bṛ. u. 2 । 3 । 6) iti pratipāditasyātmano durbodhatvaṁ manyamānā śrutiḥ punaḥ punarupāyāntaratvena tasyaiva pratipipādayiṣayā yadyadvyākhyātaṁ tatsarvaṁ nihnute । grāhyaṁ janimadbuddhiviṣayamapalapatyarthāt
‘sa eṣa neti neti’ (bṛ. u. 3 । 9 । 26), (bṛ. u. 4 । 2 । 4),
(bṛ. u. 4 । 4 । 22),
(bṛ. u. 4 । 5 । 15) ityātmano'dṛśyatāṁ darśayantī śrutiḥ । upāyasyopeyaniṣṭhatāmajānata upāyatvena vyākhyātasya upeyavadgrāhyatā mā bhūditi agrāhyabhāvena hetunā kāraṇena nihnuta ityarthaḥ । tataścaivamupāyasyopeyaniṣṭhatāmeva jānata upeyasya ca nityaikarūpatvamiti tasya sabāhyābhyantaramajamātmatattvaṁ prakāśate svayameva ॥
sato hi māyayā janma yujyate na tu tattvataḥ ।
tattvato jāyate yasya jātaṁ tasya hi jāyate ॥ 27 ॥
evaṁ hi śrutivākyaśataiḥ sabāhyābhyantaramajamātmatattvamadvayaṁ na tato'nyadastīti niścitametat । yuktyā cādhunaitadeva punarnirdhāryata ityāha — tatraitatsyāt sadā agrāhyameva cedasadevātmatattvamiti ; tanna, kāryagrahaṇāt । yathā sato māyāvinaḥ māyayā janma kāryam , evaṁ jagato janma kāryaṁ gṛhyamāṇaṁ māyāvinamiva paramārthasantamātmānaṁ jagajjanma māyāspadameva gamayati । yasmāt sato hi vidyamānātkāraṇāt māyānirmitasya hastyādikāryasyeva jagajjanma yujyate, nāsataḥ kāraṇāt । na tu tattvata eva ātmano janma yujyate । athavā, sataḥ vidyamānasya vastuno rajjvādeḥ sarpādivat māyayā janma yujyate na tu tattvato yathā, tathā agrāhyasyāpi sata evātmano rajjusarpavajjagadrūpeṇa māyayā janma yujyate । na tu tattvata evājasyātmano janma । yasya punaḥ paramārthasadajamātmatattvaṁ jagadrūpeṇa jāyate vādinaḥ, na hi tasya ajaṁ jāyata iti śakyaṁ vaktum , virodhāt । tataḥ tasyārthājjātaṁ jāyata ityāpannam । tataścānavasthāpātājjāyamānatvaṁ na । tasmādajamekamevātmatattvamiti siddham ॥
asato māyayā janma tattvato naiva yujyate ।
vandhyāputro na tattvena māyayā vāpi jāyate ॥ 28 ॥
asadvādinām asato bhāvasya māyayā tattvato vā na kathañcana janma yujyate, adṛṣṭatvāt । na hi vandhyāputro māyayā tattvato vā jāyate । tasmādatrāsadvādo dūrata evānupapanna ityarthaḥ ॥
yathā svapne dvayābhāsaṁ spandate māyayā manaḥ ।
tathā jāgraddvayābhāsaṁ spandate māyayā manaḥ ॥ 29 ॥
kathaṁ punaḥ sato māyayaiva janmetyucyate — yathā rajjvāṁ vikalpitaḥ sarpo rajjurūpeṇāvekṣyamāṇaḥ san , evaṁ manaḥ paramātmavijñaptyātmarūpeṇāvekṣyamāṇaṁ sat grāhyagrāhakarūpeṇa dvayābhāsaṁ spandate svapne māyayā, rajjvāmiva sarpaḥ ; tathā tadvadeva jāgrat jāgarite spandate māyayā manaḥ, spandata ivetyarthaḥ ॥
advayaṁ ca dvayābhāsaṁ manaḥ svapne na saṁśayaḥ ।
advayaṁ ca dvayābhāsaṁ tathā jāgranna saṁśayaḥ ॥ 30 ॥
rajjurūpeṇa sarpa iva paramārthata ātmarūpeṇa advayaṁ sat dvayābhāsaṁ manaḥ svapne, na saṁśayaḥ । na hi svapne hastyādi grāhyaṁ tadgrāhakaṁ vā cakṣurādi, dvayaṁ vijñānavyatirekeṇāsti ; jāgradapi tathaivetyarthaḥ ; paramārthasadvijñānamātrāviśeṣāt ॥
manodṛśyamidaṁ dvaitaṁ yatkiñcitsacarācaram ।
manaso hyamanībhāve dvaitaṁ naivopalabhyate ॥ 31 ॥
rajjusarpavadvikalpanārūpaṁ dvaitarūpeṇa mana evetyuktam । tatra kiṁ pramāṇamiti, anvayavyatirekalakṣaṇamanumānamāha । katham ? tena hi manasā vikalpyamānena dṛśyaṁ manodṛśyam idaṁ dvaitaṁ sarvaṁ mana iti pratijñā, tadbhāve bhāvāt tadabhāve cābhāvāt । manaso hi amanībhāve niruddhe vivekadarśanābhyāsavairāgyābhyāṁ rajjvāmiva sarpe layaṁ gate vā suṣupte dvaitaṁ naivopalabhyata iti abhāvātsiddhaṁ dvaitasyāsattvamityarthaḥ ॥
ātmasatyānubodhena na saṅkalpayate yadā ।
amanastāṁ tadā yāti grāhyābhāve tadagraham ॥ 32 ॥
kathaṁ punarayamamanībhāva ityucyate — ātmaiva satyamātmasatyam , mṛttikāvat ,
‘vācārambhaṇaṁ vikāro nāmadheyaṁ mṛttiketyeva satyam’ (chā. u. 6 । 1 । 4) iti śruteḥ । tasya śāstrācāryopadeśamanvavabodha ātmasatyānubodhaḥ । tena saṅkalpyābhāvāttanna saṅkalpayate dāhyābhāve jvalanamivāgneḥ yadā yasminkāle, tadā tasminkāle amanastām amanobhāvaṁ yāti ; grāhyābhāve tat manaḥ agrahaṁ grahaṇavikalpanāvarjitamityarthaḥ ॥
akalpakamajaṁ jñānaṁ jñeyābhinnaṁ pracakṣate ।
brahma jñeyamajaṁ nityamajenājaṁ vibudhyate ॥ 33 ॥
nigṛhītasya manaso nirvikalpasya dhīmataḥ ।
pracāraḥ sa tu vijñeyaḥ suṣupte'nyo na tatsamaḥ ॥ 34 ॥
ātmasatyānubodhena saṅkalpamakurvat bāhyaviṣayābhāve nirindhanāgnivatpraśāntaṁ sat nigṛhītaṁ niruddhaṁ mano bhavatītyuktam । evaṁ ca manaso hyamanībhāve dvaitābhāvaścoktaḥ । tasyaivaṁ nigṛhītasya niruddhasya manasaḥ nirvikalpasya sarvakalpanāvarjitasya dhīmataḥ vivekavataḥ pracaraṇaṁ pracāro yaḥ, sa tu pracāraḥ viśeṣeṇa jñeyo vijñeyo yogibhiḥ । nanu sarvapratyayābhāve yādṛśaḥ suṣuptisthasya manasaḥ pracāraḥ, tādṛśa eva niruddhasyāpi, pratyayābhāvāviśeṣāt ; kiṁ tatra vijñeyamiti । atrocyate — naivam , yasmātsuṣupte anyaḥ pracāro'vidyāmohatamograstasya antarlīnānekānarthapravṛttibījavāsanāvato manasaḥ ātmasatyānubodhahutāśavipluṣṭāvidyādyanarthapravṛttibījasya niruddhasya anya eva praśāntasarvakleśarajasaḥ svatantraḥ pracāraḥ । ato na tatsamaḥ । tasmādyuktaḥ sa vijñātumityabhiprāyaḥ ॥
līyate hi suṣuptau tannigṛhītaṁ na līyate ।
tadeva nirbhayaṁ brahma jñānālokaṁ samantataḥ ॥ 35 ॥
pracārabhede hetumāha — līyate suṣuptau hi yasmātsarvābhiravidyādipratyayabījavāsanābhiḥ saha tamorūpam aviśeṣarūpaṁ bījabhāvamāpadyate tadvivekavijñānapūrvakaṁ nigṛhītaṁ niruddhaṁ sat na līyate tamobījabhāvaṁ nāpadyate । tasmādyuktaḥ pracārabhedaḥ suṣuptasya samāhitasya manasaḥ । yadā grāhyagrāhakāvidyākṛtamaladvayavarjitam , tadā paramadvayaṁ brahmaiva tatsaṁvṛttamityataḥ tadeva nirbhayam , dvaitagrahaṇasya bhayanimittasyābhāvāt । śāntamabhayaṁ brahma yadvidvānna bibheti kutaścana । tadeva viśeṣyate — jñaptirjñānam ātmasvabhāvacaitanyam , tadeva jñānamālokaḥ prakāśo yasya, tadbrahma jñānālokaṁ vijñānaikarasaghanamityarthaḥ । samantataḥ samantāt ; sarvato vyomavannairantaryeṇa vyāpakamityarthaḥ ॥
ajamanidramasvapnamanāmakamarūpakam ।
sakṛdvibhātaṁ sarvajñaṁ nopacāraḥ kathañcana ॥ 36 ॥
janmanimittābhāvātsabāhyābhyantaram ajam ; avidyānimittaṁ hi janma rajjusarpavadityavocāma । sā cāvidyā ātmasatyānubodhena niruddhā yataḥ, ataḥ ajam , ata eva anidram avidyālakṣaṇānādirmāyānidrāsvāpātprabuddham advayasvarūpeṇātmanā ; ataḥ asvapnam । aprabodhakṛte hyasya nāmarūpe ; prabodhācca te rajjusarpavadvinaṣṭe । na nāmnābhidhīyate brahma, rūpyate vā na kenacitprakāreṇa iti anāmakam arūpakaṁ ca tat ,
‘yato vāco nivartante’ (tai. u. 2 । 4 । 1) ityādiśruteḥ । kiñca, sakṛdvibhātaṁ sadaiva vibhātaṁ sadā bhārūpam , agrahaṇānyathāgrahaṇāvirbhāvatirobhāvavarjitatvāt । grahaṇāgrahaṇe hi rātryahanī ; tamaścāvidyālakṣaṇaṁ sadā aprabhātatve kāraṇam ; tadabhāvānnityacaitanyabhārūpatvācca yuktaṁ sakṛdvibhātamiti । ata eva sarvaṁ ca tat jñaptisvarūpaṁ ceti sarvajñam । neha brahmaṇyevaṁvidhe upacaraṇamupacāraḥ kartavyaḥ, yathā anyeṣāmātmasvarūpavyatirekeṇa samādhānādyupacāraḥ । nityaśuddhabuddhamuktasvabhāvatvādbrahmaṇaḥ kathañcana na kathañcidapi kartavyasambhavaḥ avidyānāśe ityarthaḥ ॥
sarvābhilāpavigataḥ sarvacintāsamutthitaḥ ।
supraśāntaḥ sakṛjjyotiḥ samādhiracalo'bhayaḥ ॥ 37 ॥
anāmakatvādyuktārthasiddhaye hetumāha — abhilapyate aneneti abhilāpaḥ vākkaraṇaṁ sarvaprakārasyābhidhānasya, tasmādvigataḥ ; vāgatropalakṣaṇārthā, sarvabāhyakaraṇavarjita ityetat । tathā, sarvacintāsamutthitaḥ, cintyate anayeti cintā buddhiḥ, tasyāḥ samutthitaḥ, antaḥkaraṇavivarjita ityarthaḥ,
‘aprāṇo hyamanāḥ śubhraḥ akṣarātparataḥ paraḥ’ (mu. u. 2 । 1 । 2) ityādiśruteḥ । yasmātsarvaviṣayavarjitaḥ, ataḥ supraśāntaḥ । sakṛjjyotiḥ sadaiva jyotiḥ ātmacaitanyasvarūpeṇa । samādhiḥ samādhinimittaprajñāvagamyatvāt ; samādhīyate asminniti vā samādhiḥ । acalaḥ avikriyaḥ । ata eva abhayaḥ vikriyābhāvāt ॥
graho na tatra notsargaścintā yatra na vidyate ।
ātmasaṁsthaṁ tadā jñānamajāti samatāṁ gatam ॥ 38 ॥
yasmādbrahmaiva ‘samādhiracalo'bhayaḥ’ ityuktam , ataḥ na tatra tasminbrahmaṇi grahaḥ grahaṇamupādānam , na utsargaḥ utsarjanaṁ hānaṁ vā vidyate । yatra hi vikriyā tadviṣayatvaṁ vā, tatra hānopādāne syātām ; na taddvayamiha brahmaṇi sambhavati, vikārahetoranyasyābhāvānniravayavatvācca ; ato na tatra hānopādāne sambhavataḥ । cintā yatra na vidyate, sarvaprakāraiva cintā na sambhavati yatra amanastvāt , kutastatra hānopādāne ityarthaḥ । yadaiva ātmasatyānubodho jātaḥ, tadaiva ātmasaṁsthaṁ viṣayābhāvādagnyuṣṇavadātmanyeva sthitaṁ jñānam , ajāti jātivarjitam , samatāṁ gatam paraṁ sāmyamāpannaṁ bhavati । yadādau pratijñātam
‘ato vakṣyāmyakārpaṇyamajāti samatāṁ gatam’ (mā. kā. 3 । 2) iti, idaṁ tadupapattitaḥ śāstrataścoktamupasaṁhriyate — ajāti samatāṁ gatamiti । etasmādātmasatyānubodhātkārpaṇyaviṣayamanyat ,
‘yo vā etadakṣaraṁ gārgyaviditvāsmāllokātpraiti sa kṛpaṇaḥ’ (bṛ. u. 3 । 8 । 10) iti śruteḥ । prāpyaitatsarvaḥ kṛtakṛtyo brāhmaṇo bhavatītyabhiprāyaḥ ॥
asparśayogo vai nāma durdarśaḥ sarvayogiṇām ।
yogino bibhyati hyasmādabhaye bhayadarśinaḥ ॥ 39 ॥
yadyapīdamitthaṁ paramārthatattvam , asparśayogo nāma ayaṁ sarvasambandhākhyasparśavarjitatvāt asparśayogo nāma vai smaryate prasiddha upaniṣatsu । duḥkhena dṛśyata iti durdarśaḥ sarvayogiṇām vedāntavijñānarahitānām ; ātmasatyānubodhāyāsalabhya evetyarthaḥ । yoginaḥ bibhyati hi asmātsarvabhayavarjitādapi ātmanāśarūpamimaṁ yogaṁ manyamānā bhayaṁ kurvanti, abhaye asmin bhayadarśinaḥ bhayanimittātmanāśadarśanaśīlāḥ avivekinaḥ ityarthaḥ ॥
manaso nigrahāyattamabhayaṁ sarvayogiṇām ।
duḥkhakṣayaḥ prabodhaścāpyakṣayā śāntireva ca ॥ 40 ॥
yeṣāṁ punarbrahmasvarūpavyatirekeṇa rajjusarpavatkalpitameva mana indriyādi ca na paramārthato vidyate, teṣāṁ brahmasvarūpāṇāmabhayaṁ mokṣākhyā ca akṣayā śāntiḥ svabhāvata eva siddhā, nānyāyattā,
‘nopacāraḥ kathañcana’ (mā. kā. 3 । 36) ityukteḥ ; ye tvato'nye yogino mārgagā hīnamadhyamadṛṣṭayo mano'nyadātmavyatiriktamātmasambandhi paśyanti, teṣāmātmasatyānubodharahitānāṁ manaso nigrahāyattamabhayaṁ sarveṣāṁ yoginām । kiñca, duḥkhakṣayo'pi । na hyātmasambandhini manasi pracalite duḥkhakṣayo'styavivekinām । kiñca, ātmaprabodho'pi manonigrahāyatta eva । tathā, akṣayāpi mokṣākhyā śāntisteṣāṁ manonigrahāyattaiva ॥
utseka udadheryadvatkuśāgreṇaikabindunā ।
manaso nigrahastadvadbhavedaparikhedataḥ ॥ 41 ॥
manonigraho'pi teṣām udadheḥ kuśāgreṇa ekabindunā utsecanena śoṣaṇavyavasāyavat vyavasāyavatāmanavasannāntaḥkaraṇānāmanirvedāt aparikhedataḥ bhavatītyarthaḥ ॥
upāyena nigṛhṇīyādvikṣiptaṁ kāmabhogayoḥ ।
suprasannaṁ laye caiva yathā kāmo layastathā ॥ 42 ॥
kimaparikhinnavyavasāyamātrameva manonigrahe upāyaḥ ? netyucyate ; aparikhinnavyavasāyavānsan , vakṣyamāṇenopāyena kāmabhogaviṣayeṣu vikṣiptaṁ mano nigṛhṇīyāt nirundhyādātmanyevetyarthaḥ । kiñca, līyate'sminniti suṣupto layaḥ ; tasmin laye ca suprasannam āyāsavarjitamapītyetat , nigṛhṇīyādityanuvartate । suprasannaṁ cetkasmānnigṛhyata iti, ucyate ; yasmāt yathā kāmaḥ anarthahetuḥ, tathā layo'pi ; ataḥ kāmaviṣayasya manaso nigrahavallayādapi niroddhavyatvamityarthaḥ ॥
duḥkhaṁ sarvamanusmṛtya kāmabhogānnivartayet ।
ajaṁ sarvamanusmṛtya jātaṁ naiva tu paśyati ॥ 43 ॥
kaḥ sa upāya iti, ucyate — sarvaṁ dvaitamavidyāvijṛmbhitaṁ duḥkhameva ityanusmṛtya kāmabhogāt kāmanimitto bhogaḥ icchāviṣayaḥ tasmāt viprasṛtaṁ mano nivartayet vairāgyabhāvanayetyarthaḥ । ajaṁ brahma sarvam ityetacchāstrācāryopadeśataḥ anusmṛtya tadviparītaṁ dvaitajātaṁ naiva tu paśyati abhāvāt ॥
laye sambodhayeccittaṁ vikṣiptaṁ śamayetpunaḥ ।
sakaṣāyaṁ vijānīyātsamaprāptaṁ na cālayet ॥ 44 ॥
evamanena jñānābhyāsavairāgyadvayopāyena laye suṣupte līnaṁ sambodhayet manaḥ ātmavivekadarśanena yojayet । cittaṁ mana ityanarthāntaram । vikṣiptaṁ ca kāmabhogeṣu śamayetpunaḥ । evaṁ punaḥ punarabhyāsato layātsambodhitaṁ viṣayebhyaśca vyāvartitam , nāpi sāmyāpannamantarālāvasthaṁ sakaṣāyaṁ sarāgaṁ bījasaṁyuktaṁ mana iti vijānīyāt । tato'pi yatnataḥ sāmyamāpādayet । yadā tu samaprāptaṁ bhavati, samaprāptyabhimukhībhavatītyarthaḥ ; tataḥ tat na cālayet , viṣayābhimukhaṁ na kuryādityarthaḥ ॥
nāsvādayetsukhaṁ tatra niḥsaṅgaḥ prajñayā bhavet ।
niścalaṁ niścaraccittamekīkuryātprayatnataḥ ॥ 45 ॥
samādhitsato yogino yatsukhaṁ jāyate, tat nāsvādayet tatra na rajyetetyarthaḥ । kathaṁ tarhi ? niḥsaṅgaḥ niḥspṛhaḥ prajñayā vivekabuddhyā yadupalabhyate sukham , tadavidyāparikalpitaṁ mṛṣaiveti vibhāvayet ; tato'pi sukharāgānnigṛhṇīyādityarthaḥ । yadā punaḥ sukharāgānnivṛttaṁ niścalasvabhāvaṁ sat niścarat bahirnirgacchadbhavati cittam , tatastato niyamya uktopāyena ātmanyeva ekīkuryāt prayatnataḥ । citsvarūpasattāmātramevāpādayedityarthaḥ ॥
yadā na līyate cittaṁ na ca vikṣipyate punaḥ ।
aniṅganamanābhāsaṁ niṣpannaṁ brahma tattadā ॥ 46 ॥
yathoktenopāyena nigṛhītaṁ cittaṁ yadā suṣupte na līyate, na ca punarviṣayeṣu vikṣipyate ; aniṅganam acalaṁ nivātapradīpakalpam , anābhāsaṁ na kenacitkalpitena viṣayabhāvenāvabhāsate iti ; yadā evaṁlakṣaṇaṁ cittam , tadā niṣpannaṁ brahma ; brahmasvarūpeṇa niṣpannaṁ cittaṁ bhavatītyarthaḥ ॥ svasthaṁ śāntaṁ sanirvāṇamakathyaṁ sukhamuttamam ।
ajamajena jñeyena sarvajñaṁ paricakṣate ॥ 47 ॥
yathoktaṁ paramārthasukhamātmasatyānubodhalakṣaṇaṁ svasthaṁ svātmani sthitam ; śāntaṁ sarvānarthopaśamarūpam ; sanirvāṇam , nirvṛtirnirvāṇaṁ kaivalyam , saha nirvāṇena vartate ; tacca akathyaṁ na śakyate kathayitum , atyantāsādhāraṇaviṣayatvāt ; sukhamuttamaṁ niratiśayaṁ hi tadyogipratyakṣameva ; na jātamiti ajam , yathā viṣayaviṣayam ; ajena anutpannena jñeyena avyatiriktaṁ sat svena sarvajñarūpeṇa sarvajñaṁ brahmaiva sukhaṁ paricakṣate kathayanti brahmavidaḥ ॥
na kaścijjāyate jīvaḥ sambhavo'sya na vidyate ।
etattaduttamaṁ satyaṁ yatra kiñcinna jāyate ॥ 48 ॥
sarvo'pyayaṁ manonigrahādiḥ mṛllohādivatsṛṣṭirupāsanā ca uktā paramārthasvarūpapratipattyupāyatvena, na paramārthasatyeti । paramārthasatyaṁ tu na kaścijjāyate jīvaḥ kartā bhoktā ca notpadyate kenacidapi prakāreṇa । ataḥ svabhāvataḥ ajasya asya ekasyātmanaḥ sambhavaḥ kāraṇaṁ na vidyate nāsti । yasmānna vidyate'sya kāraṇam , tasmānna kaścijjāyate jīva ityetat । pūrveṣūpāyatvenoktānāṁ satyānām etat uttamaṁ satyaṁ yasminsatyasvarūpe brahmaṇi aṇumātramapi kiñcinna jāyate iti ॥
iti tṛtīyamadvaitaprakaraṇaṁ sampūrṇam ॥
jñānenākāśakalpena dharmānyo gaganopamān ।
jñeyābhinnena sambuddhastaṁ vande dvipadāṁ varam ॥ 1 ॥
oṅkāranirṇayadvāreṇa āgamataḥ pratijñātasyādvaitasya bāhyaviṣayabhedavaitathyācca siddhasya punaradvaite śāstrayuktibhyāṁ sākṣānnirdhāritasya etaduttamaṁ satyamityupasaṁhāraḥ kṛto'nte । tasyaitasyāgamārthasya advaitadarśanasya pratipakṣabhūtā dvaitino vaināśikāśca । teṣāṁ cānyonyavirodhādrāgadveṣādikleśāspadaṁ darśanamiti mithyādarśanatvaṁ sūcitam , kleśānāspadatvātsamyagdarśanamityadvaitadarśanastutaye । tadiha vistareṇānyonyaviruddhatayā asamyagdarśanatvaṁ pradarśya tatpratiṣedhenādvaitadarśanasiddhirupasaṁhartavyā āvītanyāyenetyalātaśāntiprakaraṇamārabhyate । tatrādvaitadarśanasampradāyakarturadvaitasvarūpeṇaiva namaskārārtho'yamādyaślokaḥ । ācāryapūjā hi abhipretārthasiddhyartheṣyate śāstrārambhe । ākāśena īṣadasamāptamākāśakalpamākāśatulyamityetat । tena ākāśakalpena jñānena । kim ? dharmānātmanaḥ । kiṁviśiṣṭān ? gaganopamān gaganamupamā yeṣāṁ te gaganopamāḥ, tānātmano dharmān । jñānasyaiva punarviśeṣaṇam — jñeyairdharmairātmabhirabhinnam agnyuṣṇavat savitṛprakāśavacca yat jñānam , tena jñeyābhinnena jñānena ākāśakalpena jñeyātmasvarūpāvyatiriktena, gaganopamāndharmānyaḥ sambuddhaḥ sambuddhavānnityameva īśvaro yo nārāyaṇākhyaḥ, taṁ vande abhivādaye । dvipadāṁ varaṁ dvipadopalakṣitānāṁ puruṣāṇāṁ varaṁ pradhānam , puruṣottamamityabhiprāyaḥ । upadeṣṭṛnamaskāramukhena jñānajñeyajñātṛbhedarahitaṁ paramārthatattvadarśanamiha prakaraṇe pratipipādayiṣitaṁ pratipakṣapratiṣedhadvāreṇa pratijñātaṁ bhavati ॥
asparśayogo vai nāma sarvasattvasukho hitaḥ ।
avivādo'viruddhaśca deśitastaṁ namāmyaham ॥ 2 ॥
adhunā advaitadarśanayogasya namaskāraḥ tatstutaye — sparśanaṁ sparśaḥ sambandho na vidyate yasya yogasya kenacitkadācidapi, saḥ asparśayogaḥ brahmasvabhāva eva vai nāmeti ; brahmavidāmasparśayoga ityevaṁ prasiddha ityarthaḥ । sa ca sarvasattvasukho bhavati । kaścidatyantasukhasādhanaviśiṣṭo'pi duḥkhasvarūpaḥ, yathā tapaḥ । ayaṁ tu na tathā । kiṁ tarhi ? sarvasattvānāṁ sukhaḥ । tathā iha bhavati kaścidviṣayopabhogaḥ sukho na hitaḥ ; ayaṁ tu sukho hitaśca, nityamapracalitasvabhāvatvāt । kiṁ ca avivādaḥ, viruddhaṁ vadanaṁ vivādaḥ pakṣapratipakṣaparigraheṇa yasminna vidyate saḥ avivādaḥ । kasmāt ? yataḥ aviruddhaśca ; ya īdṛśo yogaḥ deśitaḥ upadiṣṭaḥ śāstreṇa, taṁ namāmyahaṁ praṇamāmītyarthaḥ ॥
bhūtasya jātimicchanti vādinaḥ kecideva hi ।
abhūtasyāpare dhīrā vivadantaḥ parasparam ॥ 3 ॥
kathaṁ dvaitinaḥ parasparaṁ virudhyanta iti, ucyate — bhūtasya vidyamānasya vastunaḥ jātim utpattim icchanti vādinaḥ kecideva hi sāṅkhyāḥ ; na sarva eva dvaitinaḥ । yasmāt abhūtasya avidyamānasya apare vaiśeṣikā naiyāyikāśca dhīrāḥ dhīmantaḥ, prājñābhimānina ityarthaḥ । vivadantaḥ viruddhaṁ vadanto hi anyonyamicchanti jetumityabhiprāyaḥ ॥
bhūtaṁ na jāyate kiñcidabhūtaṁ naiva jāyate ।
vivadanto'dvayā hyevamajātiṁ khyāpayanti te ॥ 4 ॥
tairevaṁ viruddhavadanena anyonyapakṣapratiṣedhaṁ kurvadbhiḥ kiṁ khyāpitaṁ bhavatīti, ucyate — bhūtaṁ vidyamānaṁ vastu na jāyate kiñcidvidyamānatvādeva ātmavat ityevaṁ vadan asadvādī sāṅkhyapakṣaṁ pratiṣedhati sajjanma । tathā abhūtam avidyamānam avidyamānatvānnaiva jāyate śaśaviṣāṇavat ityevaṁ vadansāṅkhyo'pi asadvādipakṣamasajjanma pratiṣedhati । vivadantaḥ viruddhaṁ vadantaḥ advayāḥ advaitino hyete anyonyasya pakṣau sadasatorjanmanī pratiṣedhantaḥ ajātim anutpattimarthātkhyāpayanti prakāśayanti te ॥
khyāpyamānāmajātiṁ tairanumodāmahe vayam ।
vivadāmo na taiḥ sārdhamavivādaṁ nibodhata ॥ 5 ॥
tairevaṁ khyapyamānāmajātim evamastu iti anumodāmahe kevalam , na taiḥ sārdhaṁ vivadāmaḥ pakṣapratipakṣaparigraheṇa ; yathā te anyonyamityabhiprāyaḥ । ataḥ tam avivādaṁ vivādarahitaṁ paramārthadarśanamanujñātamasmābhiḥ nibodhata he śiṣyāḥ ॥
ajātasyaiva dharmasya jātimicchanti vādinaḥ ।
ajāto hyamṛto dharmo martyatāṁ kathameṣyati ॥ 6 ॥
sadasadvādinaḥ sarve । ayaṁ tu purastātkṛtabhāṣyaḥ ślokaḥ ॥
na bhavatyamṛtaṁ martyaṁ na martyamamṛtaṁ tathā ।
prakṛteranyathābhāvo na kathañcidbhaviṣyati ॥ 7 ॥
svabhāvenāmṛto yasya dharmo gacchati martyatāt ।
kṛtakenāmṛtastasya kathaṁ sthāsyati niścalaḥ ॥ 8 ॥
uktārthānāṁ ślokānāmihopanyāsaḥ paravādipakṣāṇāmanyonyavirodhakhyāpitānutpattyāmodanapradarśanārthaḥ ॥
sāṁsiddhikī svābhāvikī sahajā akṛtā ca yā ।
prakṛtiḥ seti vijñeyā svabhāvaṁ na jahāti yā ॥ 9 ॥
yasmāllaukikyapi prakṛtirna viparyeti, kāsāvityāha — samyaksiddhiḥ saṁsiddhiḥ, tatra bhavā sāṁsiddhikī ; yathā yogināṁ siddhānāmaṇimādyaiśvaryaprāptiḥ prakṛtiḥ, sā bhūtabhaviṣyatkālayorapi yogināṁ na viparyeti । tathaiva sā । svābhāvikī dravyasvabhāvata eva siddhā, yathā agnyādīnāmuṣṇaprakāśādilakṣaṇā । sāpi na kālāntare vyabhicarati deśāntare vā, tathā sahajā ātmanā sahaiva jātā, yathā pakṣyādīnāmākāśagamanādilakṣaṇā । anyāpi yā kācit akṛtā kenacinna kṛtā, yathā apāṁ nimnadeśagamanādilakṣaṇā । anyāpi yā kācitsvabhāvaṁ na jahāti, sā sarvā prakṛtiriti vijñeyā loke । mithyākalpiteṣu laukikeṣvapi vastuṣu prakṛtirnānyathā bhavati ; kimuta ajasvabhāveṣu paramārthavastuṣu ? amṛtatvalakṣaṇā prakṛtirnānyathā bhavedityabhiprāyaḥ ॥
jarāmaraṇanirmuktāḥ sarve dharmāḥ svabhāvataḥ ।
jarāmaraṇamicchantaścyavante tanmanīṣayā ॥ 10 ॥
kiṁviṣayā punaḥ sā prakṛtiḥ, yasyā anyathābhāvo vādibhiḥ kalpyate ? kalpanāyāṁ vā ko doṣa ityāha jarāmaraṇanirmuktāḥ jarāmaraṇādisarvavikriyāvarjitā ityarthaḥ । ke ? sarve dharmāḥ sarve ātmāna ityetat । svabhāvataḥ prakṛtita eva । ata evaṁsvabhāvāḥ santo dharmā jarāmaraṇamicchanta ivecchantaḥ rajjvāmiva sarpamātmani kalpayantaḥ cyavante, svabhāvataścalantītyarthaḥ । tanmanīṣayā jarāmaraṇacintayā tadbhāvabhāvitatvadoṣeṇetyarthaḥ ॥
kāraṇaṁ yasya vai kāryaṁ kāraṇaṁ tasya jāyate ।
jāyamānaṁ kathamajaṁ bhinnaṁ nityaṁ kathaṁ ca tat ॥ 11 ॥
kathaṁ sajjātivādibhiḥ sāṅkhyairanupapannamucyate iti, āha vaiśeṣikaḥ — kāraṇaṁ mṛdvadupādānalakṣaṇaṁ yasya vādinaḥ vai kāryam , kāraṇameva kāryākāreṇa pariṇamate yasya vādina ityarthaḥ । tasya ajameva sat pradhānādi kāraṇaṁ mahadādikāryarūpeṇa jāyata ityarthaḥ । mahadādyākāreṇa cejjāyamānaṁ pradhānam , kathamajamucyate taiḥ ? vipratiṣiddhaṁ cedam — jāyate ajaṁ ceti । nityaṁ ca tairucyate । pradhānaṁ bhinnaṁ vidīrṇam ; sphuṭitamekadeśena sat kathaṁ nityaṁ bhavedityarthaḥ । na hi sāvayavaṁ ghaṭādi ekadeśena sphuṭanadharmi nityaṁ dṛṣṭaṁ loke ityarthaḥ । vidīrṇaṁ ca syādekadeśenājaṁ nityaṁ cetyetat vipratiṣiddhaṁ tairabhidhīyata ityabhiprāyaḥ ॥
kāraṇādyadyananyatvamataḥ kāryamajaṁ tava ।
jāyamānāddhi vai kāryātkāraṇaṁ te kathaṁ dhruvam ॥ 12 ॥
uktasyaivārthasya spaṣṭīkaraṇārthamāha — kāraṇāt ajāt kāryasya yadi ananyatvamiṣṭaṁ tvayā, tataḥ kāryamapyajamiti prāptam । idaṁ cānyadvipratiṣiddhaṁ kāryamajaṁ ceti tava । kiñcānyat , kāryakāraṇayorananyatve jāyamānāddhi vai kāryāt kāraṇam ananyannityaṁ dhruvaṁ ca te kathaṁ bhavet ? na hi kukkuṭyā ekadeśaḥ pacyate, ekadeśaḥ prasavāya kalpyate ॥
ajādvai jāyate yasya dṛṣṭāntastasya nāsti vai ।
jātācca jāyamānasya na vyavasthā prasajyate ॥ 13 ॥
kiñcānyat , yat ajāt anutpannādvastunaḥ jāyate yasya vādinaḥ kāryam , dṛṣṭāntaḥ tasya nāsti vai ; dṛṣṭāntābhāve arthādajānna kiñcijjāyate iti siddhaṁ bhavatītyarthaḥ । yadā punaḥ jātāt jāyamānasya vastunaḥ abhyupagamaḥ, tadapi anyasmājjātāttadapyanyasmāditi na vyavasthā prasajyate । anavasthā syādityarthaḥ ॥
hetorādiḥ phalaṁ yeṣāmādirhetuḥ phalasya ca ।
hetoḥ phalasya cānādiḥ kathaṁ tairupavarṇyate ॥ 14 ॥
‘yatra tvasya sarvamātmaivābhūt’ (bṛ. u. 4 । 5 । 15) iti paramārthato dvaitābhāvaḥ śrutyoktaḥ ; tamāśrityāha — hetoḥ dharmādeḥ ādiḥ kāraṇaṁ dehādisaṅghātaḥ phalaṁ yeṣāṁ vādinām ; tathā ādiḥ kāraṇaṁ heturdharmādiḥ phalasya ca dehādisaṅghātasya ; evaṁ hetuphalayoritaretarakāryakāraṇatvena ādimattvaṁ bruvadbhiḥ evaṁ hetoḥ phalasya ca anāditvaṁ kathaṁ tairupavarṇyate vipratiṣiddhamityarthaḥ । na hi nityasya kūṭasthasyātmano hetuphalātmakatā sambhavati ॥
hetorādiḥ phalaṁ yeṣāmādirhetuḥ phalasya ca ।
tathā janma bhavetteṣāṁ putrājjanma pituryathā ॥ 15 ॥
kathaṁ tairviruddhamabhyupagamyata iti, ucyate — hetujanyādeva phalāt hetorjanmābhyupagacchatāṁ teṣāmīdṛśo virodha ukto bhavati, yathā putrājjanma pituḥ ॥
sambhave hetuphalayoreṣitavyaḥ kramastvayā ।
yugapatsambhave yasmādasambandho viṣāṇavat ॥ 16 ॥
yathokto virodho na yukto'bhyupagantumiti cenmanyase, sambhave utpattau hetuphalayoḥ kramaḥ eṣitavyaḥ anveṣṭavyaḥ tvayā — hetuḥ pūrvaṁ paścātphalaṁ ceti । itaśca yugapatsambhave yasmāddhetuphalayoḥ kāryakāraṇatvena asambandhaḥ, yathā yugapatsambhavatoḥ savyetaragoviṣāṇayoḥ ॥
phalādutpadyamānaḥ sanna te hetuḥ prasidhyati ।
aprasiddhaḥ kathaṁ hetuḥ phalamutpādayiṣyati ॥ 17 ॥
kathamasambandha ityāha — janyātsvato'labdhātmakāt phalāt utpadyamānaḥ san śaśaviṣāṇāderivāsato na hetuḥ prasidhyati janma na labhate । alabdhātmakaḥ aprasiddhaḥ san śaśaviṣāṇādikalpaḥ tava sa kathaṁ phalamutpādayiṣyati ? na hi itaretarāpekṣasiddhyoḥ śaśaviṣāṇakalpayoḥ kāryakāraṇabhāvena sambandhaḥ kvaciddṛṣṭaḥ anyathā vetyabhiprāyaḥ ॥
yadi hetoḥ phalātsiddhiḥ phalasiddhiśca hetutaḥ ।
kataratpūrvaniṣpannaṁ yasya siddhirapekṣayā ॥ 18 ॥
asambandhatādoṣeṇāpākṛte'pi hetuphalayoḥ kāryakāraṇabhāve, yadi hetuphalayoranyonyasiddhirabhyupagamyata eva tvayā, kataratpūrvaniṣpannaṁ hetuphalayoḥ ? yasya paścādbhāvinaḥ siddhiḥ syātpūrvasiddhāpekṣayā, tadbrūhītyarthaḥ ॥
aśaktiraparijñānaṁ kramakopo'tha vā punaḥ ।
evaṁ hi sarvathā buddhairajātiḥ paridīpitā ॥ 19 ॥
atha etanna śakyate vaktumiti manyase, seyamaśaktiḥ aparijñānaṁ tattvāvivekaḥ, mūḍhatetyarthaḥ । atha vā, yo'yaṁ tvayoktaḥ kramaḥ hetoḥ phalasya siddhiḥ phalācca hetoḥ siddhiriti itaretarānantaryalakṣaṇaḥ, tasya kopaḥ viparyāso'nyathābhāvaḥ syādityabhiprāyaḥ । evaṁ hetuphalayoḥ kāryakāraṇabhāvānupapatteḥ ajātiḥ sarvasyānutpattiḥ paridīpitā prakāśitā anyonyapakṣadoṣaṁ bruvadbhirvādibhiḥ buddhaiḥ paṇḍitairityarthaḥ ॥
bījāṅkurākhyo dṛṣṭāntaḥ sadā sādhyasamo hi saḥ ।
na hi sādhyasamo hetuḥ siddhau sādhyasya yujyate ॥ 20 ॥
nanu hetuphalayoḥ kāryakāraṇabhāva ityasmābhiruktaṁ śabdamātramāśritya cchalamidaṁ tvayoktam —
‘putrājjanma pituryathā’ (mā. kā. 4 । 15) ‘viṣāṇavaccāsambandhaḥ’ (mā. kā. 4 । 16) ityādi । na hyasmābhiḥ asiddhāddhetoḥ phalasiddhiḥ, asiddhādvā phalāddhetusiddhirabhyupagatā । kiṁ tarhi ? bījāṅkuravatkāryakāraṇabhāvo'bhyupagamyata iti । atrocyate — bījāṅkurākhyo dṛṣṭānto yaḥ, sa sādhyena samaḥ tulyo mametyabhiprāyaḥ । nanu pratyakṣaḥ kāryakāraṇabhāvo bījāṅkurayoranādiḥ ; na, pūrvasya pūrvasya aparabhāvādādimattvābhyupagamāt । yathā idānīmutpanno'paro'ṅkuro bījādādimān bījaṁ cāparamanyasmādaṅkurāditi krameṇotpannatvādādimat । evaṁ pūrvaḥ pūrvo'ṅkuro bījaṁ ca pūrvaṁ pūrvamādimadeveti pratyekaṁ sarvasya bījāṅkurajātasyādimattvātkasyacidapyanāditvānupapattiḥ । evaṁ hetuphalayoḥ । atha bījāṅkurasantateranādimattvamiti cet ; na, ekatvānupapatteḥ ; na hi bījāṅkuravyatirekeṇa bījāṅkurasantatirnāmaikā abhyupagamyate hetuphalasantatirvā tadanāditvavādibhiḥ । tasmātsūktam ‘hetoḥ phalasya cānādiḥ kathaṁ tairupavarṇyate’ iti । tathā ca anyadapyanupapatterna cchalamityabhiprāyaḥ । na ca loke sādhyasamo hetuḥ sādhyasya siddhau siddhinimittaṁ yujyate prayujyate pramāṇakuśalairityarthaḥ । heturiti dṛṣṭānto'trabhipretaḥ, gamakatvāt ; prakṛto hi dṛṣṭāntaḥ, na heturiti ॥
pūrvāparāparijñānamajāteḥ paridīpakam ।
jāyamānāddhi vai dharmātkathaṁ pūrvaṁ na gṛhyate ॥ 21 ॥
kathaṁ buddhairajātiḥ paridīpiteti, āha — yadetat hetuphalayoḥ pūrvāparāparijñānam , taccaitat ajāteḥ paridīpakam avabodhakamityarthaḥ । jāyamāno hi ceddharmo gṛhyate, kathaṁ tasmātpūrvaṁ kāraṇaṁ na gṛhyate ? avaśyaṁ hi jāyamānasya grahītrā tajjanakaṁ grahītavyam , janyajanakayoḥ sambandhasyānapetatvāt ; tasmādajātiparidīpakaṁ tadityarthaḥ ॥
svato vā parato vāpi na kiñcidvastu jāyate ।
sadasatsadasadvāpi na kiñcidvastu jāyate ॥ 22 ॥
itaśca na jāyate kiñcit yajjāyamānaṁ vastu svataḥ parataḥ ubhayato vā sat asat sadasadvā na jāyate, na tasya kenacidapi prakāreṇa janma sambhavati । na tāvatsvayamevāpariniṣpannātsvataḥ svarūpātsvayameva jāyate, yathā ghaṭastasmādeva ghaṭāt । nāpi parataḥ anyasmādanyaḥ, yathā ghaṭātpaṭaḥ । tathā nobhayataḥ, virodhāt , yathā ghaṭapaṭābhyāṁ ghaṭaḥ paṭo vā na jāyate । nanu mṛdo ghaṭo jāyate pituśca putraḥ ; satyam , asti jāyata iti pratyayaḥ śabdaśca mūḍhānām । tāveva tu śabdapratyayau vivekibhiḥ parīkṣyete — kiṁ satyameva tau, uta mṛṣā iti ; yāvatā parīkṣyamāṇe śabdapratyayaviṣayaṁ vastu ghaṭaputrādilakṣaṇaṁ śabdamātrameva tat ,
‘vācārambhaṇam’ (chā. u. 6 । 4 । 4) iti śruteḥ । saccet na jāyate, sattvāt , mṛtpitrādivat । yadyasat , tathāpi na jāyate, asattvādeva, śaśaviṣāṇādivat । atha sadasat , tathāpi na jāyate viruddhasyaikasyāsambhavāt । ato na kiñcidvastu jāyata iti siddham । yeṣāṁ punarjanireva jāyata iti kriyākārakaphalaikatvamabhyupagamyate kṣaṇikatvaṁ ca vastunaḥ, te dūrata eva nyāyāpetāḥ । idamitthamityavadhāraṇakṣaṇāntarānavasthānāt , ananubhūtasya smṛtyanupapatteśca ॥
heturna jāyate'nādeḥ phalaṁ cāpi svabhāvataḥ ।
ādirna vidyate yasya tasya hyādirna vidyate ॥ 23 ॥
kiñca, hetuphalayoranāditvamabhyupagacchatā tvayā balāddhetuphalayorajanmaivābhyupagataṁ syāt । katham ? anādeḥ ādirahitātphalāt hetuḥ na jāyate । na hyanutpannādanādeḥ phalāddhetorjanmeṣyate tvayā, phalaṁ cāpi ādirahitādanāderhetorajātsvabhāvata eva nirnimittaṁ jāyata iti nābhyupagamyate । tasmādanāditvamabhyupagacchatā tvayā hetuphalayorajanmaivābhyupagamyate । yasmāt ādiḥ kāraṇaṁ na vidyate yasya loke, tasya hyādiḥ pūrvoktā jātirna vidyate । kāraṇavata eva hyādirabhyupagamyate, na akāraṇavataḥ ॥
prajñapteḥ sanimittatvamanyathā dvayanāśataḥ ।
saṅkleśasyopalabdheśca paratantrāstitā matā ॥ 24 ॥
uktasyaivārthasya dṛḍhīkaraṇacikīrṣayā punarākṣipati — prajñānaṁ prajñaptiḥ śabdādipratītiḥ, tasyāḥ sanimittatvam , nimittaṁ kāraṇaṁ viṣaya ityetat ; sanimittatvaṁ saviṣayatvaṁ svātmavyatiriktaviṣayatetyetat , pratijānīmahe । na hi nirviṣayā prajñaptiḥ śabdādipratītiḥ syāt , tasyāḥ sanimittatvāt । anyathā nirviṣayatve śabdasparśanīlapītalohitādipratyayavaicitryasya dvayasya nāśataḥ nāśo'bhāvaḥ prasajyetetyarthaḥ । na ca pratyayavaicitryasya dvayasyābhāvo'sti, pratyakṣatvāt । ataḥ pratyayavaicitryasya dvayasya darśanāt , pareṣāṁ tantraṁ paratantramityanyaśāstram , tasya paratantrasya paratantrāśrayasya bāhyārthasya prajñānavyatiriktasya astitā matā abhipretā । na hi prajñapteḥ prakāśamātrasvarūpāyā nīlapītādibāhyālambanavaicitryamantareṇa svabhāvabhedenaitadvaicitryaṁ sambhavati । sphaṭikasyeva nīlādyupādhyāśrayairvinā vaicitryaṁ na ghaṭata ityabhiprāyaḥ । itaśca paratantrāśrayasya bāhyārthasya jñānavyatiriktasyāstitā । saṅkleśanaṁ saṅkleśaḥ, duḥkhamityarthaḥ । upalabhyate hi agnidāhādinimittaṁ duḥkham । yadyagnyādibāhyaṁ dāhādinimittaṁ vijñānavyatiriktaṁ na syāt , tato dāhādiduḥkhaṁ nopalabhyeta । upalabhyate tu । ataḥ tena manyāmahe asti bāhyo'rtha iti । na hi vijñānamātre saṅkleśo yuktaḥ, anyatrādarśanādityabhiprāyaḥ ॥
prajñapteḥ sanimittatvamiṣyate yuktidarśanāt ।
nimittasyānimittatvamiṣyate bhūtadarśanāt ॥ 25 ॥
atrocyate — bāḍhamevaṁ prajñapteḥ sanimittatvaṁ dvayasaṅkleśopalabdhiyuktidarśanādiṣyate tvayā । sthirībhava tāvattvaṁ yuktidarśanaṁ vastunastathātvābhyupagame kāraṇamityatra । brūhi kiṁ tata iti । ucyate — nimittasya prajñaptyālambanābhimatasya tava ghaṭāderanimittatvamanālambanatvaṁ vaicitryāhetutvamiṣyate'smābhiḥ । katham ? bhūtadarśanāt paramārthadarśanādityetat । na hi ghaṭo yathābhūtamṛdrūpadarśane sati tadvyatirekeṇāsti, yathā aśvānmahiṣaḥ, paṭo vā tantuvyatirekeṇa tantavaścāṁśuvyatirekeṇa ityevamuttarottarabhūtadarśana ā śabdapratyayanirodhānnaiva nimittamupalabhāmahe ityarthaḥ । atha vā, abhūtadarśanādbāhyārthasya animittatvamiṣyate rajjvādāviva sarpāderityarthaḥ । bhrāntidarśanaviṣayatvācca nimittasyānimittatvaṁ bhavet ; tadabhāve abhānāt । na hi suṣuptasamāhitamuktānāṁ bhrāntidarśanābhāve ātmavyatirikto bāhyo'rtha upalabhyate । na hyunmattāvagataṁ vastvanunmattairapi tathābhūtaṁ gamyate । etena dvayadarśanaṁ saṅkleśopalabdhiśca pratyuktā ॥
cittaṁ na saṁspṛśatyarthaṁ nārthābhāsaṁ tathaiva ca ।
abhūto hi yataścārtho nārthābhāsastataḥ pṛthak ॥ 26 ॥
yasmānnāsti bāhyaṁ nimittam , ataḥ cittaṁ na spṛśatyarthaṁ bāhyālambanaviṣayam , nāpyarthābhāsam , cittatvāt , svapnacittavat । abhūto hi jāgarite'pi svapnārthavadeva bāhyaḥ śabdādyartho yataḥ uktahetutvācca । nāpyarthābhāsaścittātpṛthak । cittameva hi ghaṭādyarthavadavabhāsate yathā svapne ॥
nimittaṁ na sadā cittaṁ saṁspṛśatyadhvasu triṣu ।
animitto viparyāsaḥ kathaṁ tasya bhaviṣyati ॥ 27 ॥
nanu viparyāsastarhi asati ghaṭādau ghaṭādyābhāsatā cittasya ; tathā ca sati aviparyāsaḥ kvacidvaktavya iti ; atrocyate — nimittaṁ viṣayam atītānāgatavartamānādhvasu triṣvapi sadā cittaṁ na saṁspṛśedeva hi । yadi hi kvacitsaṁspṛśet , saḥ aviparyāsaḥ paramārtha ityatastadapekṣayā asati ghaṭe ghaṭābhāsatā viparyāsaḥ syāt ; na tu tadasti kadācidapi cittasyārthasaṁsparśanam । tasmāt animittaḥ viparyāsaḥ kathaṁ tasya cittasya bhaviṣyati ? na kathañcidviparyāso'stītyabhiprāyaḥ । ayameva hi svabhāvaścittasya, yaduta asati nimitte ghaṭādau tadvadavabhāsanam ॥
tasmānna jāyate cittaṁ cittadṛśyaṁ na jāyate ।
tasya paśyanti ye jātiṁ khe vai paśyanti te padam ॥ 28 ॥
‘prajñapteḥ sanimittatvam’ (mā. kā. 4 । 25) ityādi etadantaṁ vijñānavādino bauddhasya vacanaṁ bāhyārthavādipakṣapratiṣedhaparam ācāryeṇānumoditam । tadeva hetuṁ kṛtvā tatpakṣapratiṣedhāya tadidamucyate — tasmādityādi । yasmādasatyeva ghaṭādau ghaṭādyābhāsatā cittasya vijñānavādinā abhyupagatā, tadanumoditamasmābhirapi bhūtadarśanāt ; tasmāttasyāpi cittasya jāyamānāvabhāsatā asatyeva janmani yuktā bhavitumiti ato na jāyate cittam । yathā cittadṛśyaṁ na jāyate atastasya cittasya ye jātiṁ paśyanti vijñānavādinaḥ kṣaṇikatvaduḥkhitvaśūnyatvānātmatvādi ca ; tenaiva cittena cittasvarūpaṁ draṣṭumaśakyaṁ paśyantaḥ khe vai paśyanti te padaṁ pakṣyādīnām । ata itarebhyo'pi dvaitibhyo'tyantasāhasikā ityarthaḥ । ye'pi śūnyavādinaḥ paśyanta eva sarvaśūnyatāṁ svadarśanasyāpi śūnyatāṁ pratijānate, te tato'pi sāhasikatarāḥ khaṁ muṣṭināpi jighṛkṣanti ॥
ajātaṁ jāyate yasmādajātiḥ prakṛtistataḥ ।
prakṛteranyathābhāvo na kathañcidbhaviṣyati ॥ 29 ॥
uktairhetubhirajamekaṁ brahmeti siddham , yatpunarādau pratijñātam , tatphalopasaṁhārārtho'yaṁ ślokaḥ — ajātaṁ yaccittaṁ brahmaiva jāyata iti vādibhiḥ parikalpyate, tat ajātaṁ jāyate yasmāt ajātiḥ prakṛtiḥ tasya ; tataḥ tasmāt ajātarūpāyāḥ prakṛteranyathābhāvo janma na kathañcidbhaviṣyati ॥
anāderantavattvaṁ ca saṁsārasya na setsyati ।
anantatā cādimato mokṣasya na bhaviṣyati ॥ 30 ॥
ayaṁ cāpara ātmanaḥ saṁsāramokṣayoḥ paramārthasadbhāvavādināṁ doṣa ucyate — anādeḥ atītakoṭirahitasya saṁsārasya antavattvaṁ samāptiḥ na setsyati yuktitaḥ siddhiṁ nopayāsyati । na hyanādiḥ san antavānkaścitpadārtho dṛṣṭo loke । bījāṅkurasambandhanairantaryavicchedo dṛṣṭa iti cet ; na, ekavastvabhāvenāpoditatvāt । tathā anantatāpi vijñānaprāptikālaprabhavasya mokṣasya ādimato na bhaviṣyati, ghaṭādiṣvadarśanāt । ghaṭādivināśavadavastutvādadoṣa iti cet , tathā ca mokṣasya paramārthasadbhāvapratijñāhāniḥ ; asattvādeva śaśaviṣāṇasyeva ādimattvābhāvaśca ॥
ādāvante ca yannāsti vartamāne'pi tattathā ।
vitathaiḥ sadṛśāḥ santo'vitathā iva lakṣitāḥ ॥ 31 ॥
saprayojanatā teṣāṁ svapne vipratipadyate ।
tasmādādyantavattvena mithyaiva khalu te smṛtāḥ ॥ 32 ॥
vaitathye kṛtavyākhyānau ślokāviha saṁsāramokṣābhāvaprasaṅgena paṭhitau ॥
sarve dharmā mṛṣā svapne kāyasyāntarnidarśanāt ।
saṁvṛte'sminpradeśe vai bhūtānāṁ darśanaṁ kutaḥ ॥ 33 ॥
na yuktaṁ darśanaṁ gatvā kālasyāniyamādgatau ।
pratibuddhaśca vai sarvastasmindeśe na vidyate ॥ 34 ॥
jāgarite gatyāgamanakālau niyatau, deśaḥ pramāṇato yaḥ, tasya aniyamāt niyamasyābhāvāt svapne na deśāntaragamanamityarthaḥ ॥
mitrādyaiḥ saha saṁmantrya sambuddho na prapadyate ।
gṛhītaṁ cāpi yatkiñcitpratibuddho na paśyati ॥ 35 ॥
mitrādyaiḥ saha saṁmantrya tadeva mantraṇaṁ pratibuddho na prapadyate, gṛhītaṁ ca yatkiñciddhiraṇyādi na prāpnoti ; tataśca na deśāntaraṁ gacchati svapne ॥
svapne cāvastukaḥ kāyaḥ pṛthaganyasya darśanāt ।
yathā kāyastathā sarvaṁ cittadṛśyamavastukam ॥ 36 ॥
svapne ca aṭandṛśyate yaḥ kāyaḥ, saḥ avastukaḥ tato'nyasya svāpadeśasthasya pṛthakkāyāntarasya darśanāt । yathā svapnadṛśyaḥ kāyaḥ asan , tathā sarvaṁ cittadṛśyam avastukaṁ jāgarite'pi cittadṛśyatvādityarthaḥ । svapnasamatvādasajjāgaritamapīti prakaraṇārthaḥ ॥
grahaṇājjāgaritavattaddhetuḥ svapna iṣyate ।
taddhetutvāttu tasyaiva sajjāgaritamiṣyate ॥ 37 ॥
itaśca asattvaṁ jāgradvastunaḥ jāgaritavat jāgaritasyeva grahaṇāt grāhyagrāhakarūpeṇa svapnasya, tajjāgaritaṁ hetuḥ asya svapnasya sa svapnaḥ taddhetuḥ jāgaritakāryam iṣyate । taddhetutvāt jāgaritakāryatvāt tasyaiva svapnadṛśa eva sajjāgaritam , na tvanyeṣām ; yathā svapna ityabhiprāyaḥ । yathā svapnaḥ svapnadṛśa eva san sādhāraṇavidyamānavastuvadavabhāsate, tathā tatkāraṇatvātsādhāraṇavidyamānavastuvadavabhāsanam , na tu sādhāraṇaṁ vidyamānavastu svapnavadevetyabhiprāyaḥ ॥
utpādasyāprasiddhatvādajaṁ sarvamudāhṛtam ।
na ca bhūtādabhūtasya sambhavo'sti kathañcana ॥ 38 ॥
nanu svapnakāraṇatve'pi jāgaritavastuno na svapnavadavastutvam । atyantacalo hi svapnaḥ jāgaritaṁ tu sthiraṁ lakṣyate । satyamevamavivekināṁ syāt । vivekināṁ tu na kasyacidvastuna utpādaḥ prasiddhaḥ । ataḥ aprasiddhatvāt utpādasya ātmaiva sarvamiti ajaṁ sarvam udāhṛtaṁ vedānteṣu
‘sabāhyābhyantaro hyajaḥ’ (mu. u. 2 । 1 । 2) iti । yadapi manyase jāgaritātsataḥ asansvapno jāyata iti, tadasat । na bhūtāt vidyamānāt abhūtasya asataḥ sambhavo'sti loke । na hyasataḥ śaśaviṣāṇādeḥ sambhavo dṛṣṭaḥ kathañcidapi ॥
asajjāgarite dṛṣṭvā svapne paśyati tanmayaḥ ।
asatsvapne'pi dṛṣṭvā ca pratibuddho na paśyati ॥ 39 ॥
nanu uktaṁ tvayaiva svapno jāgaritakāryamiti ; tatkathamutpādo'prasiddha iti ucyate ? śṛṇu tatra yathā kāryakāraṇabhāvo'smābhirabhipreta iti । asat avidyamānaṁ rajjusarpavadvikalpitaṁ vastu jāgarite dṛṣṭvā tadbhāvabhāvitastanmayaḥ svapne'pi jāgaritavat grāhyagrāhakarūpeṇa vikalpayanpaśyati, tathā asatsvapne'pi dṛṣṭvā ca pratibuddho na paśyati avikalpayan , ca - śabdāt । tathā jāgarite'pi dṛṣṭvā svapne na paśyati kadācidityarthaḥ । tasmājjāgaritaṁ svapnaheturityucyate, na tu paramārthasaditi kṛtvā ॥
nāstyasaddhetukamasatsadasaddhetukaṁ tathā ।
sacca saddhetukaṁ nāsti saddhetukamasatkutaḥ ॥ 40 ॥
paramārthatastu na kasyacitkenacidapi prakāreṇa kāryakāraṇabhāva upapadyate । katham ? nāsti asaddhetukam asat śaśaviṣāṇādi hetuḥ kāraṇaṁ yasya asata eva khapuṣpādeḥ, tat asaddhetukam asat na vidyate । tathā sadapi ghaṭādivastu asaddhetukam śaśaviṣāṇādikāryaṁ nāsti । tathā sacca vidyamānaṁ ghaṭādi vastvantarakāryaṁ nāsti । satkāryam asat kuta eva sambhavati ? na cānyaḥ kāryakāraṇabhāvaḥ sambhavati śakyo vā kalpayitum । ato vivekināmasiddha eva kāryakāraṇabhāvaḥ kasyacidityabhiprāyaḥ ॥
viparyāsādyathā jāgradacintyānbhūtavatspṛśet ।
tathā svapne viparyāsāddharmāṁstatraiva paśyati ॥ 41 ॥
punarapi jāgratsvapnayorasatorapi kāryakāraṇabhāvāśaṅkāmapanayannāha — viparyāsāt avivekataḥ yathā jāgrat jāgarite acintyānbhāvān aśakyacintanān rajjusarpādīn bhūtavat paramārthavat spṛśet ; spṛśanniva vikalpayedityarthaḥ, kaścidyathā, tathā svapne viparyāsāt hastyādīnpaśyanniva vikalpayati । tatraiva paśyati, na tu jāgaritādutpadyamānānityarthaḥ ॥
upalambhātsamācārādastivastutvavādinām ।
jātistu deśitā buddhairajātestrasatāṁ sadā ॥ 42 ॥
yāpi buddhaiḥ advaitavādibhiḥ jātiḥ deśitā upadiṣṭā, upalambhanamupalambhaḥ, tasmāt upalabdherityarthaḥ । samācārāt varṇāśramādidharmasamācaraṇācca tābhyāṁ hetubhyām astivastutvavādinām asti vastubhāva ityevaṁvadanaśīlānāṁ dṛḍhāgrahavatāṁ śraddadhānāṁ mandavivekināmarthopāyatvena sā deśitā jātiḥ tāṁ gṛhṇantu tāvat । vedāntābhyāsināṁ tu svayameva ajādvayātmaviṣayo viveko bhaviṣyatīti ; na tu paramārthabuddhyā । te hi śrotriyāḥ sthūlabuddhitvāt ajāteḥ ajātivastunaḥ sadā trasyanti ātmanāśaṁ manyamānā avivekina ityarthaḥ ।
‘upāyaḥ so'vatārāya’ (mā. kā. 3 । 15) ityuktam ॥
ajātestrasatāṁ teṣāmupalambhādviyanti ye ।
jātidoṣā na setsyanti doṣo'pyalpo bhaviṣyati ॥ 43 ॥
ye ca evamupalambhātsamācārācca ajāteḥ ajātivastunaḥ trasantaḥ asti vastviti advayādātmanaḥ, viyanti viruddhaṁ yanti dvaitaṁ pratipadyanta ityarthaḥ । teṣām ajāteḥ trasatāṁ śraddadhānānāṁ sanmārgāvalambināṁ jātidoṣāḥ jātyupalambhakṛtā doṣāḥ na setsyanti siddhiṁ nopayāsyanti, vivekamārgapravṛttatvāt । yadyapi kaściddoṣaḥ syāt , so'pyalpa eva bhaviṣyati, samyagdarśanāpratipattihetuka ityarthaḥ ॥
upalambhātsamācārānmāyāhastī yathocyate ।
upalambhātsamācārādasti vastu tathocyate ॥ 44 ॥
nanu upalambhasamācārayoḥ pramāṇatvādastyeva dvaitaṁ vastviti ; na, upalambhasamācārayorvyabhicārāt । kathaṁ vyabhicāra iti, ucyate — upalabhyate hi māyāhastī hastīva, hastinamivātra samācaranti bandhanārohaṇādihastisambandhibhirdharmaiḥ, hastīti cocyate asannapi yathā, tathaiva upalambhātsamācārāt dvaitaṁ bhedarūpaṁ asti vastu ityucyate । tasmānnopalambhasamācārau dvaitavastusadbhāve hetū bhavata ityabhiprāyaḥ ॥
jātyābhāsaṁ calābhāsaṁ vastvābhāsaṁ tathaiva ca ।
ajācalamavastutvaṁ vijñānaṁ śāntamadvayam ॥ 45 ॥
kiṁ punaḥ paramārthasadvastu, yadāspadā jātyādyasadbuddhaya ityāha — ajāti sat jātivadavabhāsata iti jātyābhāsam , tadyathā devadatto jāyata iti । calābhāsaṁ calamivābhāsata iti, yathā sa eva devadatto gacchatīti । vastvābhāsaṁ vastu dravyaṁ dharmi, tadvadavabhāsata iti vastvābhāsam , yathā sa eva devadatto gauro dīrgha iti । jāyate devadattaḥ spandate dīrgho gaura ityevamavabhāsate । paramārthatastu ajamacalamavastutvamadravyaṁ ca । kiṁ tadevaṁprakāram ? vijñānaṁ vijñaptiḥ, jātyādirahitatvācchāntam ata eva advayaṁ ca tadityarthaḥ ॥
evaṁ na jāyate cittamevaṁ dharmā ajāḥ smṛtāḥ ।
evameva vijānanto na patanti viparyaye ॥ 46 ॥
evaṁ yathoktebhyo hetubhyaḥ na jāyate cittam । evaṁ dharmāḥ ātmānaḥ ajāḥ smṛtāḥ brahmavidbhiḥ । dharmā iti bahuvacanaṁ dehabhedānuvidhāyitvādadvayasyaiva upacārataḥ । evameva yathoktaṁ vijñānaṁ jātyādirahitamadvayamātmatattvaṁ vijānantaḥ tyaktabāhyaiṣaṇāḥ punarna patanti avidyādhvāntasāgare viparyaye ;
‘tatra ko mohaḥ kaḥ śoka ekatvamanupaśyataḥ’ (ī. u. 7) ityādimantravarṇāt ॥
ṛjuvakrādikābhāsamalātaspanditaṁ yathā ।
grahaṇagrāhakābhāsaṁ vijñānaspanditaṁ tathā ॥ 47 ॥
yathoktaṁ paramārthadarśanaṁ prapañcayiṣyannāha — yathā hi loke ṛjuvakrādiprakārābhāsam alātaspanditam ulkācalanam , tathā grahaṇagrāhakābhāsaṁ viṣayiviṣayābhāsamityarthaḥ । kiṁ tat ? vijñānaspanditaṁ spanditamiva spanditamavidyayā । na hyacalasya vijñānasya spandanamasti,
‘ajācalam’ (mā. kā. 4 । 45) iti hyuktam ॥
aspandamānamalātamanābhāsamajaṁ yathā ।
aspandamānaṁ vijñānamanābhāsamajaṁ tathā ॥ 48 ॥
aspandamānaṁ spandanavarjitaṁ tadeva alātam ṛjvādyākāreṇājāyamānam anābhāsam ajaṁ yathā, tathā avidyayā spandamānam avidyoparame aspandamānaṁ jātyādyākāreṇa anābhāsam ajam acalaṁ bhaviṣyatītyarthaḥ ॥
alāte spandamāne vai nābhāsā anyatobhuvaḥ ।
na tato'nyatra niḥspandānnālātaṁ praviśanti te ॥ 49 ॥
kiṁ ca, tasminneva alāte spandamāne ṛjuvakrādyābhāsāḥ alātādanyataḥ kutaścidāgatyālāte naiva bhavantīti nānyatobhuvaḥ । na ca tasmānniḥspandādalātādanyatra nirgatāḥ । na ca niḥspandamalātameva praviśanti te ॥
na nirgatā alātātte dravyatvābhāvayogataḥ ।
vijñāne'pi tathaiva syurābhāsasyāviśeṣataḥ ॥ 50 ॥
kiṁ ca, na nirgatā alātāt te ābhāsāḥ gṛhādiva, dravyatvābhāvayogataḥ, dravyasya bhāvo dravyatvam , tadabhāvaḥ dravyatvābhāvaḥ, dravyatvābhāvayogataḥ dravyatvābhāvayukteḥ vastutvābhāvādityarthaḥ । vastuno hi praveśādi sambhavati, nāvastunaḥ । vijñāne'pi jātyādyābhāsāḥ tathaiva syuḥ, ābhāsasya aviśeṣataḥ tulyatvāt ॥
vijñāne spandamāne vai nābhāsā anyatobhuvaḥ ।
na tato'nyatra niḥspandānna vijñānaṁ viśanti te ॥ 51 ॥
na nirgatāste vijñānāddravyatvābhāvayogataḥ ।
kāryakāraṇatābhāvādyato'cintyāḥ sadaiva te ॥ 52 ॥
kathaṁ tulyatvamityāha — alātena samānaṁ sarvaṁ vijñānasya ; sadā acalatvaṁ tu vijñānasya viśeṣaḥ । jātyādyābhāsā vijñāne acale kiṅkṛtā ityāha — kāryakāraṇatābhāvāt janyajanakatvānupapatterabhāvarūpatvāt acintyāḥ te yataḥ sadaiva । yathā asatsu ṛjvādyābhāseṣu ṛjvādibuddhirdṛṣṭā alātamātre, tathā asatsveva jātyādiṣu vijñānamātre jātyādibuddhirmṛṣaiveti samudāyārthaḥ ॥
dravyaṁ dravyasya hetuḥ syādanyadanyasya caiva hi ।
dravyatvamanyabhāvo vā dharmāṇāṁ nopapadyate ॥ 53 ॥
ajamekamātmatattvamiti sthitam । tatra yairapi kāryakāraṇabhāvaḥ kalpyate, teṣāṁ dravyaṁ dravyasyānyasyānyat hetuḥ kāraṇaṁ syāt , na tu tasyaiva tat । nāpyadravyaṁ kasyacitkāraṇaṁ svatantraṁ dṛṣṭaṁ loke । na ca dravyatvaṁ dharmāṇām ātmanām upapadyate anyatvaṁ vā kutaścit , yena anyasya kāraṇatvaṁ kāryatvaṁ vā pratipadyeta । ataḥ adravyatvādananyatvācca na kasyacitkāryaṁ kāraṇaṁ vā ātmetyarthaḥ ॥
evaṁ na cittajā dharmāścittaṁ vāpi na dharmajam ।
evaṁ hetuphalājātiṁ praviśanti manīṣiṇaḥ ॥ 54 ॥
evaṁ yathoktebhyo hetubhyaḥ ātmavijñānasvarūpameva cittamiti, na cittajāḥ bāhyadharmāḥ, nāpi bāhyadharmajaṁ cittam , vijñānasvarūpābhāsamātratvātsarvadharmāṇām । evaṁ na hetoḥ phalaṁ jāyate, nāpi phalāddheturiti hetuphalayorajātiṁ hetuphalājātiṁ praviśanti adhyavasyanti । ātmani hetuphalayorabhāvameva pratipadyante brahmavida ityarthaḥ ॥
yāvaddhetuphalāveśastāvaddhetuphalodbhavaḥ ।
kṣīṇe hetuphalāveśe nāsti hetuphalodbhavaḥ ॥ 55 ॥
ye punarhetuphalayorabhiniviṣṭāḥ, teṣāṁ kiṁ syāditi, ucyate — dharmādharmākhyasya hetoḥ ahaṁ kartā mama dharmādharmau tatphalaṁ kālāntare kvacitprāṇinikāye jāto bhokṣye iti yāvaddhetuphalayorāveśaḥ hetuphalāgraha ātmanyadhyāropaṇam , taccittatetyarthaḥ ; tāvaddhetuphalayorudbhavaḥ dharmādharmayostatphalasya cānucchedena pravṛttirityarthaḥ । yadā punarmantrauṣadhivīryeṇeva grahāveśo yathoktādvaitadarśanena avidyodbhūtahetuphalāveśopanīto bhavati, tadā tasminkṣīṇe nāsti hetuphalodbhavaḥ ॥
yāvaddhetuphalāveśaḥ saṁsārastāvadāyataḥ ।
kṣīṇe hetuphalāveśe saṁsāraṁ na prapadyate ॥ 56 ॥
yadi hetuphalodbhavaḥ, tadā ko doṣa iti, ucyate — yāvat samyagdarśanena hetuphalāveśaḥ na nivartate, akṣīṇaḥ saṁsāraḥ tāvat āyātaḥ dīrgho bhavatītyarthaḥ । kṣīṇe punaḥ hetuphalāveśe saṁsāraṁ na prapadyate, kāraṇābhāvāt ॥
saṁvṛtyā jāyate sarvaṁ śāśvataṁ nāsti tena vai ।
sadbhāvena hyajaṁ sarvamucchedastena nāsti vai ॥ 57 ॥
nanu ajādātmano'nyannāstyeva ; tatkathaṁ hetuphalayoḥ saṁsārasya ca utpattivināśāvucyete tvayā ? śṛṇu ; saṁvṛtyā saṁvaraṇaṁ saṁvṛtiḥ avidyāviṣayo laukikavyavahāraḥ ; tayā saṁvṛtyā jāyate sarvam । tena avidyāviṣaye śāśvataṁ nityaṁ nāsti vai । ataḥ utpattivināśalakṣaṇaḥ saṁsāraḥ āyata ityucyate । paramārthasadbhāvena tu ajaṁ sarvam ātmaiva yasmāt ; ato jātyabhāvāt ucchedaḥ tena nāsti vai kasyaciddhetuphalāderityarthaḥ ॥
dharmā ya iti jāyante jāyante te na tattvataḥ ।
janma māyopamaṁ teṣāṁ sā ca māyā na vidyate ॥ 58 ॥
ye'pyātmāno'nye ca dharmā jāyanta iti kalpyante, te iti evaṁprakārā yathoktā saṁvṛtirnirdiśyata iti saṁvṛtyaiva dharmā jāyante । na te tattvataḥ paramārthataḥ jāyante । yatpunastatsaṁvṛtyā janma teṣāṁ dharmāṇāṁ yathoktānāṁ yathā māyayā janma tathā tat māyopamaṁ pratyetavyam । māyā nāma vastu tarhi ; naivam , sā ca māyā na vidyate । māyetyavidyamānasyākhyetyabhiprāyaḥ ॥
yathā māyāmayādbījājjāyate tanmayo'ṅkuraḥ ।
nāsau nityo na cocchedī tadvaddharmeṣu yojanā ॥ 59 ॥
kathaṁ māyopamaṁ teṣāṁ dharmāṇāṁ janmeti, āha — yathā māyāmayāt āmrādibījāt jāyate tanmayaḥ māyāmayaḥ aṅkuraḥ, nāsāvaṅkuro nityaḥ, na ca ucchedī vināśī vā । abhūtatvādeva dharmeṣu janmanāśādiyojanā yuktiḥ, na tu paramārthato dharmāṇāṁ janma nāśo vā yujyata ityarthaḥ ॥
nājeṣu sarvadharmeṣu śāśvatāśāśvatābhidhā ।
yatra varṇā na vartante vivekastatra nocyate ॥ 60 ॥
paramārthatastvātmasvajeṣu nityaikarasavijñaptimātrasattākeṣu śāśvataḥ aśāśvataḥ iti vā na abhidhā, nābhidhānaṁ pravartata ityarthaḥ । yatra yeṣu varṇyante yairarthāḥ, te varṇāḥ śabdā na vartante abhidhātuṁ prakāśayituṁ na pravartanta ityarthaḥ । idamevamiti vivekaḥ viviktatā tatra nityo'nitya iti nocyate,
‘yato vāco nivartante’ (tai. u. 2 । 9 । 1) iti śruteḥ ॥
yathā svapne dvayābhāsaṁ cittaṁ calati māyayā ।
tathā jāgraddvayābhāsaṁ cittaṁ calati māyayā ॥ 61 ॥
advayaṁ ca dvayābhāsaṁ cittaṁ svapne na saṁśayaḥ ।
advayaṁ ca dvayābhāsaṁ tathā jāgranna saṁśayaḥ ॥ 62 ॥
yatpunarvāggocaratvaṁ paramārthataḥ advayasya vijñānamātrasya, tanmanasaḥ spandanamātram , na paramārthataḥ ityuktārthau ślokau ॥
svapnadṛkpracaransvapne dikṣu vai daśasu sthitān ।
aṇḍajānsvedajānvāpi jīvānpaśyati yānsadā ॥ 63 ॥
itaśca vāggocarasyābhāvo dvaitasya — svapnānpaśyatīti svapnadṛk pracaran paryaṭansvapne svapnasthāne dikṣu vai daśasu sthitān vartamānān jīvānprāṇinaḥ aṇḍajānsvedajānvā yān sadā paśyatīti ॥
svapnadṛkcittadṛśyāste na vidyante tataḥ pṛthak ।
tathā taddṛśyamevedaṁ svapnadṛkcittamiṣyate ॥ 64 ॥
yadyevam , tataḥ kim ? ucyate — svapnadṛśaścittaṁ svapnadṛkcittam , tena dṛśyāḥ te jīvāḥ ; tataḥ tasmāt svapnadṛkcittāt pṛthak na vidyante na santītyarthaḥ । cittameva hyanekajīvādibhedākāreṇa vikalpyate । tathā tadapi svapnadṛkcittamidaṁ taddṛśyameva, tena svapnadṛśā dṛśyaṁ taddṛśyam । ataḥ svapnadṛgvyatirekeṇa cittaṁ nāma nāstītyarthaḥ ॥
carañjāgarite jāgraddikṣu vai daśasu sthitān ।
aṇḍajānsvedajānvāpi jīvānpaśyati yānsadā ॥ 65 ॥
jāgraccittekṣaṇīyāste na vidyante tataḥ pṛthak ।
tathā taddṛśyamevedaṁ jāgrataścittamiṣyate ॥ 66 ॥
jāgrato dṛśyā jīvāḥ taccittāvyatiriktāḥ, cittekṣaṇīyatvāt , svapnadṛkcittekṣaṇīyajīvavat । tacca jīvekṣaṇātmakaṁ cittaṁ draṣṭuravyatiriktaṁ draṣṭṛdṛśyatvāt svapnacittavat । uktārthamanyat ॥
ubhe hyanyonyadṛśye te kiṁ tadastīti cocyate ।
lakṣaṇāśūnyamubhayaṁ tanmate naiva gṛhyate ॥ 67 ॥
jīvacitte ubhe cittacaittye te anyonyadṛśye itaretaragamye । jīvādiviṣayāpekṣaṁ hi cittaṁ nāma bhavati । cittāpekṣaṁ hi jīvādi dṛśyam । ataste anyonyadṛśye । tasmānna kiñcidastīti cocyate cittaṁ vā cittekṣaṇīyaṁ vā । kiṁ tadastīti vivekinocyate । na hi svapne hastī hasticittaṁ vā vidyate ; tathā ihāpi vivekināmityabhiprāyaḥ । katham ? lakṣaṇāśūnyaṁ lakṣyate anayeti lakṣaṇā pramāṇam ; pramāṇaśūnyamubhayaṁ cittaṁ caittyaṁ dvayaṁ yataḥ, tanmatenaiva taccittatayaiva tat gṛhyate । na hi ghaṭamatiṁ pratyākhyāya ghaṭo gṛhyate, nāpi ghaṭaṁ pratyākhyāya ghaṭamatiḥ । na hi tatra pramāṇaprameyabhedaḥ śakyate kalpayitumityabhiprāyaḥ ॥
yathā svapnamayo jīvo jāyate mriyate'pi ca ।
tathā jīvā amī sarve bhavanti na bhavanti ca ॥ 68 ॥
yathā māyāmayo jīvo jāyate mriyate'pi ca ।
tathā jīvā amī sarve bhavanti na bhavanti ca ॥ 69 ॥
yathā nirmitako jīvo jāyate mriyate'pi ca ।
tathā jīvā amī sarve bhavanti na bhavanti ca ॥ 70 ॥
māyāmayaḥ māyāvinā yaḥ kṛto nirmitakaḥ mantrauṣadhyādibhirniṣpāditaḥ । svapnamāyānirmitakā aṇḍajādayo jīvā yathā jāyante mriyante ca, tathā manuṣyādilakṣaṇā avidyamānā eva cittavikalpanāmātrā ityarthaḥ ॥
na kaścijjāyate jīvaḥ sambhavo'sya na vidyate ।
etattaduttamaṁ satyaṁ yatra kiñcinna jāyate ॥ 71 ॥
vyavahārasatyaviṣaye jīvānāṁ janmamaraṇādiḥ svapnādijīvavadityuktam । uttamaṁ tu paramārthasatyaṁ na kaścijjāyate jīva iti । uktārthamanyat ॥
cittaspanditamevedaṁ grāhyagrāhakavaddvayam ।
cittaṁ nirviṣayaṁ nityamasaṅgaṁ tena kīrtitam ॥ 72 ॥
sarvaṁ grāhyagrāhakavaccittaspanditameva dvayam । cittaṁ paramārthata ātmaiveti nirviṣayam । tena nirviṣayatvena nityam asaṅgaṁ kīrtitam ।
‘asaṅgo hyayaṁ puruṣaḥ’ (bṛ. u. 4 । 3 । 15) iti śruteḥ । saviṣayasya hi viṣaye saṅgaḥ । nirviṣayatvāccittamasaṅgamityarthaḥ ॥
yo'sti kalpitasaṁvṛtyā paramārthena nāstyasau ।
paratantrābhisaṁvṛtyā syānnāsti paramārthataḥ ॥ 73 ॥
nanu nirviṣayatvena cedasaṅgatvam , cittasya na niḥsaṅgatā bhavati, yasmāt śāstā śāstraṁ śiṣyaścetyevamāderviṣayasya vidyamānatvāt ; naiṣa doṣaḥ । kasmāt ? yaḥ padārthaḥ śāstrādirvidyate, sa kalpitasaṁvṛtyā । kalpitā ca sā paramārthapratipattyupāyatvena saṁvṛtiśca sā tayā yo'sti paramārthena, nāstyasau na vidyate ।
‘jñāte dvaitaṁ na vidyate’ (mā. kā. 1 । 18) ityuktam । yaśca paratantrābhisaṁvṛtyā paraśāstravyavahāreṇa syātpadārthaḥ, sa paramārthato nirūpyamāṇo nāstyeva । tena yuktamuktam
‘asaṅgaṁ tena kīrtitam’ (mā. kā. 4 । 72) iti ॥
ajaḥ kalpitasaṁvṛtyā paramārthena nāpyajaḥ ।
paratantrābhiniṣpattyā saṁvṛtyā jāyate tu saḥ ॥ 74 ॥
nanu śāstrādīnāṁ saṁvṛtitve aja itīyamapi kalpanā saṁvṛtiḥ syāt । satyamevam ; śāstrādikalpitasaṁvṛtyaiva aja ityucyate । paramārthena nāpyajaḥ, yasmāt paratantrābhiniṣpattyā paraśāstrasiddhimapekṣya yaḥ aja ityuktaḥ, sa saṁvṛtyā jāyate । ataḥ aja itīyamapi kalpanā paramārthaviṣaye naiva kramata ityarthaḥ ॥
abhūtābhiniveśo'sti dvayaṁ tatra na vidyate ।
dvayābhāvaṁ sa buddhvaiva nirnimitto na jāyate ॥ 75 ॥
yasmādasadviṣayaḥ, tasmāt asatyabhūte dvaite abhiniveśo'sti kevalam । abhiniveśaḥ āgrahamātram । dvayaṁ tatra na vidyate mithyābhiniveśamātraṁ ca janmanaḥ kāraṇaṁ yasmāt , tasmāt dvayābhāvaṁ buddhvā nirnimittaḥ nivṛttamithyādvayābhiniveśaḥ yaḥ, saḥ na jāyate ॥
yadā na labhate hetūnuttamādhamamadhyamān ।
tadā na jāyate cittaṁ hetvabhāve phalaṁ kutaḥ ॥ 76 ॥
jātyāśramavihitā āśīrvarjitairanuṣṭhīyamānā dharmā devatvādiprāptihetava uttamāḥ kevalāśca । dharmāḥ adharmavyāmiśrāmanuṣyatvādiprāptyarthā madhyamāḥ । tiryagādiprāptinimittā adharmalakṣaṇāḥ pravṛttiviśeṣāścādhamāḥ । tānuttamamadhyamādhamānavidyāparikalpitān yadā ekamevādvitīyamātmatattvaṁ sarvakalpanāvarjitaṁ jānan na labhate na paśyati, yathā bālairdṛśyamānaṁ gagane malaṁ vivekī na paśyati, tadvat , tadā na jāyate notpadyate cittaṁ devādyākāraiḥ uttamādhamamadhyamaphalarūpeṇa । na hyasati hetau phalamutpadyate bījādyabhāva iva sasyādi ॥
animittasya cittasya yānutpattiḥ samādvayā ।
ajātasyaiva sarvasya cittadṛśyaṁ hi tadyataḥ ॥ 77 ॥
hetvabhāve cittaṁ notpadyata iti hi uktam । sā punaranutpattiścittasya kīdṛśītyucyate — paramārthadarśanena nirastadharmādharmākhyotpattinimittasya animittasya cittasyeti yā mokṣākhyā anutpattiḥ, sā sarvadā sarvāvasthāsu samā nirviśeṣā advayā ca ; pūrvamapi ajātasyaiva anutpannasya cittasya sarvasyādvayasyetyarthaḥ । yasmātprāgapi vijñānāt cittaṁ dṛśyaṁ taddvayaṁ janma ca, tasmādajātasya sarvasya sarvadā cittasya samā advayaiva anutpattiḥ na punaḥ kadācidbhavati, kadācidvā na bhavati । sarvadā ekarūpaivetyarthaḥ ॥
buddhvānimittatāṁ satyāṁ hetuṁ pṛthaganāpnuvan ।
vītaśokaṁ tathā kāmamabhayaṁ padamaśnute ॥ 78 ॥
yathoktena nyāyena janmanimittasya dvayasya abhāvādanimittatāṁ ca satyāṁ paramārtharūpāṁ buddhvā hetuṁ dharmādikāraṇaṁ devādiyoniprāptaye pṛthaganāpnuvan anupādadānaḥ tyaktabāhyaiṣaṇaḥ san kāmaśokādivarjitam avidyādirahitam abhayaṁ padam aśnute, punarna jāyata ityarthaḥ ॥
abhūtābhiniveśāddhi sadṛśe tatpravartate ।
vastvabhāvaṁ sa buddhvaiva niḥsaṅgaṁ vinivartate ॥ 79 ॥
yasmāt abhūtābhiniveśāt asati dvaye dvayāstitvaniścayaḥ abhūtābhiniveśaḥ, tasmāt avidyāvyāmoharūpāddhi sadṛśe tadanurūpe tat cittaṁ pravartate । tasya dvayasya vastunaḥ abhāvaṁ yadā buddhavān , tadā tasmāt niḥsaṅgaṁ nirapekṣaṁ sat vinivartate abhūtābhiniveśaviṣayāt ॥
nivṛttasyāpravṛttasya niścalā hi tadā sthitiḥ ।
viṣayaḥ sa hi buddhānāṁ tatsāmyamajamadvayam ॥ 80 ॥
nivṛttasya dvaitaviṣayāt , viṣayāntare ca apravṛttasya abhāvadarśanena cittasya niścalā calanavarjitā brahmasvarūpaiva tadā sthitiḥ, yaiṣā brahmasvarūpā sthitiḥ cittasya advayavijñānaikarasaghanalakṣaṇā । sa hi yasmāt viṣayaḥ gocaraḥ paramārthadarśināṁ buddhānām , tasmāt tatsāmyaṁ paraṁ nirviśeṣamajamadvayaṁ ca ॥
ajamanidramasvapnaṁ prabhātaṁ bhavati svayam ।
sakṛdvibhāto hyevaiṣa dharmo dhātusvabhāvataḥ ॥ 81 ॥
punarapi kīdṛśaścāsau buddhānāṁ viṣaya ityāha — svayameva tat prabhātaṁ bhavati na ādityādyapekṣam ; svayaṁ jyotiḥsvabhāvamityarthaḥ । sakṛdvibhātaḥ sadaiva vibhāta ityetat । eṣaḥ evaṁlakṣaṇaḥ ātmākhyo dharmaḥ dhātusvabhāvataḥ vastusvabhāvata ityarthaḥ ॥
sukhamāvriyate nityaṁ duḥkhaṁ vivriyate sadā ।
yasya kasya ca dharmasya graheṇa bhagavānasau ॥ 82 ॥
evaṁ bahuśa ucyamānamapi paramārthatattvaṁ kasmāllaukikairna gṛhyata ityucyate — yasmāt yasya kasyacit dvayavastuno dharmasya graheṇa grahaṇāveśena mithyābhiniviṣṭatayā sukhamāvriyate anāyāsena ācchādyata ityarthaḥ । dvayopalabdhinimittaṁ hi tatrāvaraṇaṁ na yatnāntaramapekṣate । duḥkhaṁ ca vivriyate prakaṭīkriyate, paramārthajñānasya durlabhatvāt । bhagavānasau ātmādvayo deva ityarthaḥ । ato vedāntairācāryaiśca bahuśa ucyamāno'pi naiva jñātuṁ śakya ityarthaḥ,
‘āścaryo vaktā kuśalo'sya labdhā’ (ka. u. 1 । 2 । 7) iti śruteḥ ॥
asti nāstyasti nāstīti nāsti nāstīti vā punaḥ ।
calasthirobhayābhāvairāvṛṇotyeva bāliśaḥ ॥ 83 ॥
asti nāstītyādi sūkṣmaviṣayā api paṇḍitānāṁ grahāḥ bhagavataḥ paramātmana āvaraṇā eva ; kimuta mūḍhajanānāṁ buddhilakṣaṇā ityevamarthaṁ pradarśayannāha — astīti । astyātmeti kaścidvādī pratipadyate । nāstītyaparo vaināśikaḥ । asti nāstītyaparo'rdhavaināśikaḥ sadasadvādī digvāsāḥ । nāsti nāstītyatyantaśūnyavādī । tatrāstibhāvaścalaḥ, ghaṭādyanityavilakṣaṇatvāt । nāstibhāvaḥ sthiraḥ, sadāviśeṣatvāt । ubhayaṁ calasthiraviṣayatvāt sadasadbhāvaḥ । abhāvo'tyantābhāvaḥ । prakāracatuṣṭayasyāpi tairetaiścalasthirobhayābhāvaiḥ sadasadādivādī sarvo'pi bhagavantamāvṛṇotyeva bāliśo'vivekī । yadyapi paṇḍito bāliśa eva paramārthatattvānavabodhāt , kimu svabhāvamūḍho jana ityabhiprāyaḥ ॥
koṭyaścatasra etāstu grahairyāsāṁ sadāvṛtaḥ ।
bhagavānābhiraspṛṣṭo yena dṛṣṭaḥ sa sarvadṛk ॥ 84 ॥
kīdṛkpunaḥ paramārthatattvam , yadavabodhādabāliśaḥ paṇḍito bhavatītyāha — koṭyaḥ prāvādukaśāstranirṇayāntāḥ etāḥ uktā asti nāstītyādyāḥ catasraḥ, yāsāṁ koṭīnāṁ grahaiḥ grahaṇaiḥ upalabdhiniścayaiḥ sadā sarvadā āvṛtaḥ ācchāditaḥ teṣāmeva prāvādukānāṁ yaḥ, sa bhagavān ābhiḥ asti nāstītyādikoṭibhiḥ catasṛbhirapi aspṛṣṭaḥ astyādivikalpanāvarjita ityetat । yena muninā dṛṣṭo jñātaḥ vedānteṣvaupaniṣadaḥ puruṣaḥ, sa sarvadṛk sarvajñaḥ ; paramārthapaṇḍita ityarthaḥ ॥
prāpya sarvajñatāṁ kṛtsnāṁ brāhmaṇyaṁ padamadvayam ।
anāpannādimadhyāntaṁ kimataḥ paramīhate ॥ 85 ॥
viprāṇāṁ vinayo hyeṣa śamaḥ prākṛta ucyate ।
damaḥ prakṛtidāntatvādevaṁ vidvāñśamaṁ vrajet ॥ 86 ॥
viprāṇāṁ brāhmaṇānāṁ vinayaḥ vinītatvaṁ svābhāvikaṁ yadetadātmasvarūpeṇāvasthānam । eṣa vinayaḥ śamo'pyeṣa eva prākṛtaḥ svābhāvikaḥ akṛtakaḥ ucyate । damo'pyeṣa eva prakṛtidāntatvāt svabhāvata eva copaśāntarūpatvādbrahmaṇaḥ । evaṁ yathoktaṁ svabhāvopaśāntaṁ brahma vidvān śamam upaśāntiṁ svābhāvikīṁ brahmasvarūpāṁ vrajet brahmasvarūpeṇāvatiṣṭhata ityarthaḥ ॥
savastu sopalambhaṁ ca dvayaṁ laukikamiṣyate ।
avastu sopalambhaṁ ca śuddhaṁ laukikamiṣyate ॥ 87 ॥
evamanyonyaviruddhatvāt saṁsārakāraṇarāgadveṣadoṣāspadāni prāvādukānāṁ darśanāni । ato mithyādarśanāni tānīti tadyuktibhireva darśayitvā catuṣkoṭivarjitatvāt rāgādidoṣānāspadaṁ svabhāvaśāntamadvaitadarśanameva samyagdarśanamityupasaṁhṛtam । athedānīṁ svaprakriyāpradarśanārtha ārambhaḥ — savastu saṁvṛtisatā vastunā saha vartata iti savastu, tathā ca upalabdhirupalambhaḥ, tena saha vartata iti sopalambhaṁ ca śāstrādisarvavyavahārāspadaṁ grāhyagrahaṇalakṣaṇaṁ dvayaṁ lokādanapetaṁ laukikaṁ jāgaritamityetat । evaṁlakṣaṇaṁ jāgaritamiṣyate vedānteṣu । avastu saṁvṛterapyabhāvāt । sopalambhaṁ vastuvadupalambhanamupalambhaḥ asatyapi vastuni, tena saha vartata iti sopalambhaṁ ca । śuddhaṁ kevalaṁ pravibhaktaṁ jāgaritātsthūlāllaukikaṁ sarvaprāṇisādhāraṇatvāt iṣyate svapna ityarthaḥ ॥
avastvanupalambhaṁ ca lokottaramiti smṛtam ।
jñānaṁ jñeyaṁ ca vijñeyaṁ sadā buddhaiḥ prakīrtitam ॥ 88 ॥
avastvanupalambhaṁ ca grāhyagrahaṇavarjitamityetat ; lokottaram , ata eva lokātītam । grāhyagrahaṇaviṣayo hi lokaḥ, tadabhāvāt sarvapravṛttibījaṁ suṣuptamityetat । evaṁ smṛtaṁ sopāyaṁ paramārthatattvaṁ laukikaṁ śuddhalaukikaṁ lokottaraṁ ca krameṇa yena jñānena jñāyate, tat jñānaṁ jñeyam etānyeva trīṇi, etadvyatirekeṇa jñeyānupapatteḥ । sarvaprāvādukakalpitavastuno'traivāntarbhāvāt ; vijñeyaṁ yatparamārthasatyaṁ turyākhyamadvayamajamātmatattvamityarthaḥ ; sadā sarvadaiva, tallaukikādi vijñeyāntaṁ buddhaiḥ paramārthadarśibhirbrahmavidbhiḥ prakīrtitam ॥
jñāne ca trividhe jñeye krameṇa vidite svayam ।
sarvajñatā hi sarvatra bhavatīha mahādhiyaḥ ॥ 89 ॥
jñāne ca laukikādiviṣaye jñeye ca laukikādau trividhe, pūrvaṁ laukikaṁ sthūlam ; tadabhāvena paścācchuddhaṁ laukikam , tadabhāvena lokottaramityevaṁ krameṇa sthānatrayābhāvena paramārthasatye turye advaye aje abhaye vidite, svayameva ātmasvarūpameva sarvajñatā sarvaścāsau jñaśca sarvajñaḥ, tadbhāvaḥ sarvajñatā iha asmin loke bhavati mahādhiyaḥ mahābuddheḥ । sarvalokātiśayavastuviṣayabuddhitvādevaṁvidaḥ sarvatra sarvadā bhavati । sakṛdvidite svarūpe vyabhicārābhāvādityarthaḥ । na hi paramārthavido jñāninaḥ jñānodbhavābhibhavau staḥ, yathā anyeṣāṁ prāvādukānām ॥
heyajñeyāpyapākyāni vijñeyānyagrayāṇataḥ ।
teṣāmanyatra vijñeyādupalambhastriṣu smṛtaḥ ॥ 90 ॥
laukikādīnāṁ krameṇa jñeyatvena nirdeśādastitvāśaṅkā paramārthato mā bhūdityāha — heyāni ca laukikādīni trīṇi jāgaritasvapnasuṣuptāni ātmanyasattvena rajjvāṁ sarpavaddhātavyānītyarthaḥ । jñeyamiha catuṣkoṭivarjitaṁ paramārthatattvam । āpyāni āptavyāni tyaktabāhyaiṣaṇātrayeṇa bhikṣuṇā pāṇḍityabālyamaunākhyāni sādhanāni । pākyāni rāgadveṣamohādayo doṣāḥ kaṣāyākhyāni paktavyāni । sarvāṇyetāni heyajñeyāpyapākyāni vijñeyāni bhikṣuṇā upāyatvenetyarthaḥ । agrayāṇataḥ prathamataḥ । teṣāṁ heyādīnāmanyatra vijñeyātparamārthasatyaṁ vijñeyaṁ brahmaikaṁ varjayitvā । upalambhanamupalambhaḥ avidyākalpanāmātram । heyāpyapākyeṣu triṣvapi smṛto brahmavidbhiḥ na paramārthasatyatā trayāṇāmityarthaḥ ॥
prakṛtyākāśavajjñeyāḥ sarve dharmā anādayaḥ ।
vidyate na hi nānātvaṁ teṣāṁ kvacana kiñcana ॥ 91 ॥
paramārthatastu prakṛtyā svabhāvataḥ ākāśavat ākāśatulyāḥ sūkṣmanirañjanasarvagatatvaiḥ sarve dharmā ātmāno jñeyā mumukṣubhiḥ anādayaḥ nityāḥ । bahuvacanakṛtabhedāśaṅkāṁ nirākurvannāha — kvacana kvacidapi kiñcana kiñcit aṇumātramapi teṣāṁ na vidyate nānātvamiti ॥
ādibuddhāḥ prakṛtyaiva sarve dharmāḥ suniścitāḥ ।
yasyaivaṁ bhavati kṣāntiḥ so'mṛtatvāya kalpate ॥ 92 ॥
jñeyatāpi dharmāṇāṁ saṁvṛtyaiva, na paramārthata ityāha — yasmāt ādau buddhāḥ ādibuddhāḥ prakṛtyaiva svabhāvata eva yathā nityaprakāśasvarūpaḥ savitā, evaṁ nityabodhasvarūpā ityarthaḥ । sarve dharmāḥ sarva ātmānaḥ । na ca teṣāṁ niścayaḥ kartavyaḥ nityaniścitasvarūpā ityarthaḥ । na sandihyamānasvarūpā evaṁ naivaṁ veti yasya mumukṣoḥ evaṁ yathoktaprakāreṇa sarvadā bodhaniścayanirapekṣatā ātmārthaṁ parārthaṁ vā । yathā savitā nityaṁ prakāśāntaranirapekṣaḥ svārthaṁ parārthaṁ vetyevaṁ bhavati kṣāntiḥ bodhakartavyatānirapekṣatā sarvadā svātmani, saḥ amṛtatvāya amṛtabhāvāya kalpate, mokṣāya samartho bhavatītyarthaḥ ॥
ādiśāntā hyanutpannāḥ prakṛtyaiva sunirvṛtāḥ ।
sarve dharmāḥ samābhinnā ajaṁ sāmyaṁ viśāradam ॥ 93 ॥
tathā nāpi śāntikartavyatā ātmanītyāha — yasmāt ādiśāntāḥ nityameva śāntāḥ anutpannā ajāśca prakṛtyaiva sunirvṛtāḥ suṣṭhūparatasvabhāvāḥ nityamuktasvabhāvā ityarthaḥ । sarve dharmāḥ samāśca abhinnāśca samābhinnāḥ ajaṁ sāmyaṁ viśāradaṁ viśuddhamātmatattvaṁ yasmāt , tasmāt śāntirmokṣo vā nāsti kartavya ityarthaḥ । na hi nityaikasvabhāvasya kṛtaṁ kiñcidarthavatsyāt ॥
vaiśāradyaṁ tu vai nāsti bhede vicaratāṁ sadā ।
bhedanimnāḥ pṛthagvādāstasmātte kṛpaṇāḥ smṛtāḥ ॥ 94 ॥
ye yathoktaṁ paramārthatattvaṁ pratipannāḥ, te eva akṛpaṇā loke ; kṛpaṇāstvanye ityāha — yasmāt bhedanimnāḥ bhedānuyāyinaḥ saṁsārānugā ityarthaḥ । ke ? pṛthagvādāḥ pṛthak nānā vastu ityevaṁ vadanaṁ yeṣāṁ te pṛthagvādāḥ dvaitina ityarthaḥ । tasmātte kṛpaṇāḥ kṣudrāḥ smṛtāḥ, yasmāt vaiśāradyaṁ viśuddhiḥ tannāsti teṣāṁ bhede vicaratāṁ dvaitamārge avidyāparikalpite sarvadā vartamānānāmityarthaḥ । ato yuktameva teṣāṁ kārpaṇyamityabhiprāyaḥ ॥
aje sāmye tu ye kecidbhaviṣyanti suniścitāḥ ।
te hi loke mahājñānāstacca loko na gāhate ॥ 95 ॥
yadidaṁ paramārthatattvam , amahātmabhirapaṇḍitairvedāntabahiḥṣṭhaiḥ kṣudrairalpaprajñairanavagāhyamityāha — aje sāmye paramārthatattve evameveti ye kecit stryādayo'pi suniścitā bhaviṣyanti cet , ta eva hi loke mahājñānāḥ niratiśayatattvaviṣayajñānā ityarthaḥ । tacca teṣāṁ vartma teṣāṁ viditaṁ paramārthatattvaṁ sāmānyabuddhiranyo loko na gāhate nāvatarati na viṣayīkarotītyarthaḥ । ‘sarvabhūtātmabhūtasya samaikārthaṁ prapaśyataḥ । devā api mārge muhyantyapadasya padaiṣiṇaḥ । śakunīnāmivākāśe gatirnaivopalabhyate’ ityādismaraṇāt ॥
ajeṣvajamasaṅkrāntaṁ dharmeṣu jñānamiṣyate ।
yato na kramate jñānamasaṅgaṁ tena kīrtitam ॥ 96 ॥
kathaṁ mahājñānatvamityāha — ajeṣu anutpanneṣu acaleṣu dharmeṣu ātmasu ajamacalaṁ ca jñānamiṣyate savitarīva auṣṇyaṁ prakāśaśca yataḥ, tasmāt asaṅkrāntam arthāntare jñānamajamiṣyate । yasmānna kramate arthāntare jñānam , tena kāraṇena asaṅgaṁ tat kīrtitam ākāśakalpamityuktam ॥
aṇumātre'pi vaidharmye jāyamāne'vipaścitaḥ ।
asaṅgatā sadā nāsti kimutāvaraṇacyutiḥ ॥ 97 ॥
ito'nyeṣāṁ vādinām aṇumātre alpe'pi vaidharmye vastuni bahirantarvā jāyamāne utpadyamāne avipaścitaḥ avivekinaḥ asaṅgatā asaṅgatvaṁ sadā nāsti ; kimuta vaktavyam āvaraṇacyutiḥ bandhanāśo nāstīti ॥
alabdhāvaraṇāḥ sarve dharmāḥ prakṛtinirmalāḥ ।
ādau buddhāstathā muktā budhyanta iti nāyakāḥ ॥ 98 ॥
teṣāmāvaraṇacyutirnāstīti bruvatāṁ svasiddhānte abhyupagataṁ tarhi dharmāṇāmāvaraṇam । netyucyate — alabdhāvaraṇāḥ alabdhamaprāptamāvaraṇam avidyādibandhanaṁ yeṣāṁ te dharmāḥ alabdhāvaraṇāḥ bandhanarahitā ityarthaḥ । prakṛtinirmalāḥ svabhāvaśuddhāḥ ādau buddhāḥ tathā muktāḥ, yasmāt nityaśuddhabuddhamuktasvabhāvāḥ । yadyevaṁ kathaṁ tarhi budhyanta ityucyate — nāyakāḥ svāminaḥ samarthāḥ boddhuṁ bodhaśaktimatsvabhāvā ityarthaḥ । yathā nityaprakāśasvarūpo'pi san savitā prakāśata ityucyate, yathā vā nityanivṛttagatayo'pi nityameva śailāstiṣṭhantītyucyate, tadvat ॥
kramate na hi buddhasya jñānaṁ dharmeṣu tāyinaḥ ।
sarve dharmāstathā jñānaṁ naitadbuddhena bhāṣitam ॥ 99 ॥
yasmāt na hi kramate buddhasya paramārthadarśino jñānaṁ viṣayāntareṣu dharmeṣu dharmasaṁsthaṁ savitarīva prabhā । tāyinaḥ tāyo'syāstīti tāyī, santānavato nirantarasya ākāśakalpasyetyarthaḥ ; pūjāvato vā prajñāvato vā sarve dharmā ātmāno'pi tathā jñānavadeva ākāśakalpatvānna kramante kvacidapyarthāntara ityarthaḥ । yadādāvupanyastam
‘jñānenākāśakalpena’ (mā. kā. 4 । 1) ityādi, tadidamākāśakalpasya tāyino buddhasya tadananyatvādākāśakalpaṁ jñānaṁ na kramate kvacidapyarthāntare । tathā dharmā iti ākāśamiva acalamavikriyaṁ niravayavaṁ nityamadvitīyamasaṅgamadṛśyamagrāhyamaśanāyādyatītaṁ brahmātmatattvam ,
‘na hi draṣṭurdṛṣṭerviparilopo vidyate’ (bṛ. u. 4 । 3 । 23) iti śruteḥ । jñānajñeyajñātṛbhedarahitaṁ paramārthatattvamadvayametanna buddhena bhāṣitam । yadyapi bāhyārthanirākaraṇaṁ jñānamātrakalpanā ca advayavastusāmīpyamuktam । idaṁ tu paramārthatattvamadvaitaṁ vedānteṣveva vijñeyamityarthaḥ ॥
durdarśamatigambhīramajaṁ sāmyaṁ viśāradam ।
buddhvā padamanānātvaṁ namaskurmo yathābalam ॥ 100 ॥
śāstrasamāptau paramārthatattvastutyarthaṁ namaskāra ucyate — durdarśaṁ duḥkhena darśanamasyeti durdarśam । asti nāstīti catuṣkoṭivarjitatvāddurvijñeyamityarthaḥ । ata eva atigambhīraṁ duṣpraveśaṁ mahāsamudravadakṛtaprajñaiḥ । ajaṁ sāmyaṁ viśāradam । īdṛk padam anānātvaṁ nānātvavarjitaṁ buddhvā avagamya tadbhūtāḥ santaḥ namaskurmaḥ tasmai padāya । avyavahāryamapi vyavahāragocaratāmāpādya yathābalaṁ yathāśaktītyarthaḥ ॥
ajamapi janiyogaṁ prāpadaiśvaryayogā -
dagati ca gatimattāṁ prāpadekaṁ hyanekam ।
vividhaviṣayadharmagrāhi mugdhekṣaṇānāṁ
praṇatabhayavihantṛ brahma yattannato'smi ॥ 1 ॥
prajñāvaiśākhavedhakṣubhitajalanidhervedanāmno'ntarasthaṁ
bhūtānyālokya magnānyaviratajananagrāhaghore samudre ।
kāruṇyāduddadhārāmṛtamidamamarairdurlabhaṁ bhūtaheto -
ryastaṁ pūjyābhipūjyaṁ paramagurumamuṁ pādapātairnato'smi ॥ 2 ॥
yatprajñālokabhāsā pratihatimagamatsvāntamohāndhakāro
majjonmajjacca ghore hyasakṛdupajanodanvati trāsane me ।
yatpādāvāśritānāṁ śrutiśamavinayaprāptiragnyā hyamoghā
tatpādau pāvanīyau bhavabhayavinudau sarvabhāvairnamasye ॥ 3 ॥
iti alātaśāntiprakaraṇam sampūrṇam ॥
